Pope Attacks Same-Sex Marriage In Historic Policy Statement
Last edited Tue Dec 3, 2013, 08:19 PM - Edit history (1)
While the 224-page policy statement Pope Francis I released this week has been heralded by the left as a tribute to basic tenets of Christianity, like caring for the poor and not idolizing wealth, and by Rush Limbaugh, Fox News, and the radical right as “Marxism,†same-sex marriage still gets attacked in the pontiff’s “Evangelii Gaudium.â€
The Pope, for example, blames “the negative aspects of the media and entertainment industries,†which are “threatening traditional values, and in particular the sacredness of marriage and the stability of the family.â€
He goes on to lament that the “family is experiencing a profound cultural crisis, as are all communities and social bondsâ€â€“ certainly a fair statement.

1. Did he say same sex marriages are bad in the document?

3. No, but he did make one actual reference to the fight.
“Marriage now tends to be viewed as a form of mere emotional satisfaction that can be constructed in any way or modified at will, but the indispensable contribution of marriage to society transcends the feelings and momentary needs of the couple.â€
That's basically a slap at any non-traditional marriage. Not just gay marriage, but even nontraditional open heterosexual marriages like my own.

5. I don't see how, its the same type of language used by NOM and their ilk...
what do you want him to do, start using the f-word or something? The man is a homophobe, and has said worse things in the past.

9. Yeah it seems pretty obvious
"Constructed in any way" sounds like it's about same-sex marriage and "modified at will" sounds like it's about divorce.

19. Question, what traditional values does he want upheld that are mentioned in this document?
not to mention a number of other homophobic and rightwing buzzwords used.
Also, just to make things clear, he not only doesn't want it to be consecrated in his church, he wants it to be illegal by force of law.
Did you catch that?
It's really nothing more than an attack on "traditional values." As I have said repeatedly, the issue isn't the issue; tearing down those perceived as enemies is the issue.
If this idiot were to get his every wish his values would be "traditional values" in a few hundred years. Yet, if he could transport himself into such a future he would either A) be screaming to preserve them for the sake of tradition or B) fighting to tear down what he once championed for the mere fact it's "traditional."

21. And yet he has supported civil partnerships. That's a position far to the left
of most Bishops in the Church.

22. Actually, he called it the lesser of two evils, that's not exactly a ringing endorsement...
in addition, this was in a closed room meeting, and we can't be 100% sure what he said about it.
He still calls same sex marriage an idea sprung from "the father of lies", and considers same sex parenting to be child abuse.
There can be no dissent.
There can be no compromise.
There is only obedience.

31. Misleading title, designed for the Anti-Pope crowd.

34. I'd say it just bothers the anti gay crowd, for they love to hide their prejudices behind dogma
and costumes and props. Francis says my family is an attack on God that comes from the devil. If you don't want to hear him criticized, tell him to stop with the hate speech. This is a political forum. We trade in facts here.
Would this be considered as anti-Catholic hate speech?
Probably, but they will tell you they are entitled to their hate, you are not.

Skank.
I noticed there were an awful lot of Pope threads over there. Why? Why on earth do they care?

Because if it is one thing a Proglodyte anti-theist cannot abide is the existence of infidels who refuse to submit to their dogma.

Pope Francis is very much against gay marriage despite what some like to think. Also, he is maintaining the Catholic doctrine that Pope Benedict XVI and Pope John Paul II did.
I am not Catholic by the way.
-
If you can't agree with the Pope, maybe you aren't a Catholic and should just butt out. Seems simple enough, but apparently not to the DUmmies.

So DID a great many of us. That is, until you Rectal Rangers decided poop chute sympathetic was a cause to destroy Christianity, ...and it is. Screw you. :bird:

No, it's not, actually. I thought you people were smaht instead of just the most racist, intolerant and fascistic pond scum in existence. Given the opportunity, you flesh bags would give the muzzies a run for their sheckles.
At least, until they come for you.

Why don't you put that in bold italic blinking neon? Misdirecting, are we?

I'm not Catholic and I agree with him. He's done his job, and that's all a non-member can ask of him.
-
So...
Why is that the DUmmies and liberals champion those who stand upon their beliefs but then castrate anyone who does when it isn't inline with their beliefs. That some freaking pretzel logic.
-
So, one of the DUmmies has an open marriage....I bet the female, as ugly as she may be, is getting the most outta that.

Gross!
They will love him again when they see his total distaste for capitalism and the musings of the Bishop in New York who said except for abortion and birth control support, they support Obamacare. I always find this amusing since my Christian understanding is that charity is motivated individually by the Holy Spirit. Forced giving takes away the motivations a Holy Spirit puts on the individual to contribute in a manner that God would wish for them too. For example, God may bless me with a 10K raise a year that He intended for me to help my mother with as she ages, but I will be unable to give according to His will because I'm forced to give according to the state. That is what Some Catholic bishops advocate when they support crap like Obamacare is the thwarting of the influence of God on someone with regard to what He has blessed them with.
Sorry, off track.

Agreed. Despite my own rant, that's really my thought in general. Now my beau is Catholic and we have some hearty discussions on these social issues, but the bottom line is exactly what you just suggested: I am not Catholic because I don't find myself in agreement with some doctrine and then on certain issues as expoused by the leaders of the church. I usually just leave it there and went on my own rant to just put out there that DUmmies probably have short circuits over church leaders basically supporting socialism and opposing gay couplehood.

Well, I am Catholic, and I like him. His remarks on capitalism were edited when the English translation was done, and Glenn Beck pointed this out on his site. Two words were omitted, and that changed the whole context of the statement to something that Mikey Moore liked. (This ain't Life cereal, either.) As for Cardinal Dolan on Obamacare . . . I don't agree with him on that, but I'm not in the Archdiocese of NY, so it really doesn't affect me. I think that the RCC got snookered by the sheer volume and weight of the whole cACA, and they didn't get a whole bunch of Church scholars to actually look at the thing.
I like the stress on getting out of the rectories/chancelleries and getting into the areas where the people who need help are located.
