Fort Lee, New Jersey (My9NJ) - Could you imagine spending $100 to drive over a bridge or through a tunnel? Well, as of Sunday, that is the new reality for truckers driving into Manhattan.
This will be the third of five Port Authority toll increases passed since 2011. It means only a 75 cent increase for car drivers using E-ZPass. For cash paying truckers, on the other hand, it means a $12 hike, taking them from $90 per crossing to $102 just to cross the George Washington Bridge.
$90 to cross the George Washington Bridge is a lot, truck or not. No wonder why things are expensive in New York City on top of the regulations and real estate.
Last year, Port Authority saw a 31% profit, causing many to question why the Port Authority couldn’t delay or cancel the toll hike all together. Mike Kilduff, another independent trucker, wants to know what Port Authority plans to do with the new money. “Where’s the money going? That’s what I’d like to know,†he said.
The Port Authority saw a good deal of profit. It is a quasi-government agency and where is the outrage for that? :???:

Hardly, the NY/NJ Port Authority is a huge slush fund generator and place of employment for friends and relatives of NYC and borough elected officials.

When Scoobs was living in VA, I had to drive around NYC to get to the Eastern Shore. Tolls each way were about $30-35. The GWB alone was $8 (one-way only.) The NJ Turnpike was another $10 (both ways.)
None of the other tolls was more than $2.
A couple of years ago, we went to NYC for the weekend, and visited some places she had grown up in the area. $13 to cross the Narrows Bridge? Effin SERIOUSLY?

Damn Yankees moving south want to bring toll roads/bridges with them. At least that's the way it seems to me when I hear that discussed down here in red state hell.
I still remember how to drive on dirt roads and can do it again if I have too to stay free.
They should up the toll to $100,000.00 for Yankees headed south.
