I can prove it with empirical observation.
As you commute to work over the next 4 weeks you will notice traffic on the roads is lighter, you aren't being cut-off and there are plenty of parking spaces once you get to where you're going.
BUT!
As soon as the holidays are done and everyone is back from vacation you will be screaming, "Look at all these assholes on the road!"

That's because a lot of government workers tend to take their use or lose during December :rofl:
Not me. I like taking vacation when most other people don't so I have a clear drive down to wherever I'm going :) The one exception is I am actually thinking of taking 2 weeks off around Christmas(and right after I graduate) next year in celebration and before my girl child gains even more independence. Think that might be the last vacation we have before she's occupied with her own life :( and it is just me and my boys for a while.
