How about a different kind of forgiveness?
Can you forgive yourself?
I know for a lot of people that can be harder than forgiving someone else. In a hard rock song by Metallica about forgiveness (I think it's Unforgiven III) at one point the lead singer yells, "Why can't I forgive me!"
There is nothing I can do to change what happened. I can continue to carry that guilt and shame around or I can forgive myself and make a pact to never do anything like that again.

The CalPig hangs around the loonybin a lot, her mouth agape.
Not that she's a nut, of course:

1. I think forgiving yourself is the hardest kind of forgiveness, my dear Tobin...
I've made more than my share of blunders and even though it's been decades since they happened, I have not been able to let go of them. I just don't know how.
The CalPig's last blunder was the Spring of '63. She's maintained a perfect record ever since.

One of my issues was self-loathing. It seems like I've figured out a way to like myself. If I can help other people do that for themselves, I think it would be nice.

We here on DU MHS are a great group of people, I would wager to say of high moral character and wisdom due to our ability to survive grueling situations. So it is ironic when we view ourselves as losers or worse.
It's really ironic that your view is so accurate.

Sure can. I'm a normal dude, not some emo freak. I've certainly stepped on my crank a few times and regret it, but I live in the present, not the past. Life works out a whole lot better when you look ahead instead to where events are still malleable and your choices have yet to be made, instead of behind where you can't do a damn' thing to change anything.

Doesn't say a thing about bats, Al, only "pictures, descriptions, and accounts".

Why should you? Just look in the mirror, primitive? Is what you see really worth forgiving? Not really.
Now go find a trash can and promptly throw yourself away.

NO! Think of the planet, man!
DUmmie needs to find a recycler that owns a wood chipper, and turn his/her/its self into mulch.
Become one with Mother Gia and all that, you know?

The DUmmie needs to throw itself into an industrial-strength incinerator. Think of the damage that 'mulch' could make!

I can forgive myself. One thing I do have that I don't think they have is that I don't repeat the same mistake in life. It's one and done for me.

The thing with them is--they can't, or more likely won't, recognize that what they want isn't necessarily what they need. They tend to want the easy, soft way out. Anything worth having proves to be difficult in some way, shape, or form.
Oh--H5 for the response, milady . . . :-*

That's good, but it still falls short of theCalPig. She hasn't made a mistake in decades.
