An Obamacare "Loser" Speaks Out ... About Not Being an Entitled Douche
Josh Marshall
Now we hear from ACA "loser" TPM Reader BW ...
Since it’s been estimated that about 3% of the US population will end up “losers†under Obamacare, I thought I’d write in and give you my perspective as a 3-percenter. However, I suspect that I belong to a smaller subset of the 3%, that being people who find it appallingly self-indulgent and shamefully self-pitying to think of ourselves as losers.
Having insurance, even crappy insurance, in the individual market means we are almost by definition, healthy and relatively young. If we were not, we wouldn’t be able to get coverage of any kind in the non-group market. If our ACA-compliant replacement policy costs us more, it’s likely because we’re too affluent to qualify for subsidies.
It takes a remarkable degree of self-absorption and sense of self-entitlement to be healthy, young(ish) and affluent—and yet consider oneself a “loser.†It’s a label I reject out of shame (no matter how much the lazy, superficial MSM want to fixate on me and my “plightâ€) NOT because there’s anything shameful about being a loser; the shame is in thinking oneself a loser when one is actually fortunate.
I live in Louisiana where 400,000 working poor people will continue to go without health care because one man, Gov. Bobby Jindal, decided letting them have Medicaid wouldn’t be good for his future ambitions. Those 400,000 are the losers. And while my healthcare.gov application has been stuck for a month now at the “View Eligibility Results†stage, where instead of my results I see a blank screen when I click the button, I know I will get better health insurance than the bare-bones individual policy I have now, even if I end up having to pick up the phone, or heaven forbid, send in paper. I will pay significantly more, but after years of being one serious illness from financial ruin, I will finally have security. And not only that; every time I pay my new premium, I am paying into a system that makes it possible for my fellow Americans who have not been as lucky as me—people who really have been losers pre-ACA—to finally get affordable health care.
I was fortunate before Obamacare, and now I am an Obamacare winner. Now if the media would just help more of the public understand how lucky us 3-percenters actually are, perhaps the public would start to recoil at the absurdity of the outrage being whipped up on our behalf, and we could start focusing on how to help the real losers: the working poor in refusenik states.

So this person is claiming he is quite happy to pay more for insurance that won't be any better than what he had.
He is also claiming that you are a self centered jerk if you have a problem with your premiums going up.
I don't know about anyone else, but if our premiums doubled and we got stuck with a high deductible we would be screwed. We live on a tight budget as is and really can't afford to help other people pay for their insurance on top of it. If I'm greedy then so be it, but I don't see how helping people by hurting others could be a good thing, it just spreads the misery.

I'm one of those too. I was declined by Blue shield before buying a Kaiser plan that costs me plenty when I get sick. My new plan will be more expensive, but you won't see me crying about it.
Liar, you would be squealing like a stuck pig if your insurance cost more and you would be blaming the repukes.

Lots of lying in that thread.

Well it is from DU, so naturally that's true. :-)

I see a new Democrat talking point...

They have given up on spouting the policies are going to be a better deal and trying to shame you into paying more to help others. They just might have come up with an angle that will save barrycare. Or not.

The reality is, the low information people will continue to think that only the rich will get soaked, for instance lots of self employed people are the ones being hit now, the low information crowd thinks these people all sleep on beds stuffed with hundred dollar bills instead of feathers, when the truth is most small business owners I know get to handle a lot of money, but very little of it ends up in their pockets. They think the local contractor that charges $75 an hour takes that home, when in reality there are times $8 of that actually ends up in his pocket.
The reality won't hit until next year probably after the election when the people who want other people to pay for this will find out they get part of the bill too, but by then it will be too late.

More shoes to drop as another 15 million policies will be dropped throughout the year.

I have a feeling that will magically be stopped until after the election.
Never underestimate this crowd and what they will do to cover up and deceive.

I actually had a job this week that would have resulted in LESS that $8 of it ending up in my pocket. The only thing that saved me was I had my wife helping on one trip and a friend that owed me a favor on the other.

Keep this up DUmbasses. I'm not sure how you managed to get it into that reptilian structure that we charitably consider your brain that calling people losing their health insurance morons is a winning strategy.
How telling people who barely scrape by with what they have must now pay more for less so they can subsidize others not willing to work hard and pay for it themselves they are selfish and should just shut up and pay up is compassion.
How laughing at people that took the president (and dozens of Dim Congresscriminals) at his/their word that they could keep what they have are too ****ing stupid to understand some apparently secret nuance is the greatest idea since sliced bread.
No one will remember the shutdown. It really didn't affect all that many people, and other people told the government to **** off when they stormed memorials and national parks.
This; this will be remembered. The lying. The dismissal. The contempt. You've sown the wind. You will reap the whirlwind.
And frankly, you can suck it. You were warned for years this would happen and just blew it off in a haze of unicorn farts and cries of "racist."
Someone pass me a beer, cause the donkey is about to get punched.

What do you expect. The DUmmies know absolutely nothing about how a small business works. They don't know about the all the taxes that must be paid. All of the various social security and FICA taxes. They don't know what it costs to get permission, from the government, to fix wiring that was screwed up when it was installed fifty years ago. Like I said, most of them wouldn't last a week dealing with all the headaches my small business through at me.
Good news, though. I just got offered a job that starting out I will be making double than my small business. I met my new employer when I worked on his house.

This whole ACA fiasco is just typical of the liberal mind. Screw up things for 100 percent of the people in order to make things better for 15 percent. 85 percent of the people were insured and for the most part happy with what they had. The libs just couldn't stand that. 15 percent of the people weren't insured (many of them by choice) so the the dems had to go and screw up things for everybody else. I was listening to Huckabee this evening and he pointed out that the government could have just carved out some special laws for the 15 percent who had no insurance and left the rest of us alone. Unfortunately libs don't think that way.
Apparently the liberal tent of misery is a big tent and they want everyone under its coverage.

Yeah really it would have cost a boatload less if they just offered subsidies for poor people to buy insurance. I once heard Rush say we could buy insurance for those who don't have it and be done, no muss no fuss for the rest of us.
The problem is, when the government is the great equalizer they equalize the misery instead of lifting people up. The left subsidizes poverty and does their best to make more of us poor and in need of their help.

That or put them on Medicaid and offer those subsidies to the states.
The liberal mantra... if they can **** it up, they will. If they've already ****ed it up, they can make it worse.
If the federal government wanted to get involved in healthcare, they should have opened their own hospitals and hired their own doctors. We'd see how popular they are then.

That would work better as well. The point is we could fix the problem without screwing everyone in the process. There are so many things that could have been done, but as usual the left over complicates it and screws everyone, including those they say they want to help. Then they promise to fix it and screw it up worse, rinse and repeat.

Completely typical.
#1. Promise World or reasonable facsimile.
#2. Cloak plans in secrecy and insist success is guaranteed. Deny reality and declare that Math!!111! is racist.
#3. Stare in gap-mouthed disbelief as reality asserts itself and plan fails miserably.
#4. Blame any and all entities not associated with the plan. Declare selves the arbiters of all things sCiEnCe and that Math!!!!11 is what you say it is. Because Social Justice!!!111!!!eLeBiNtY!!
#5. Congratulate selves on presumed righteousness of plan, award all concerned with the failure and vow to repeat the same plan.
