Title: Republicans plan to impeach Eric Holder.
Post by: JohnnyReb on November 14, 2013, 09:53:42 AM
Of course it will die in the senate but still it is a move against the Obama clan.

I expect Boner will run away from this leaving a trail of piddle.  But, if the House did vote impeachment the Senate would have to hold the trial.  Even though it would fail, the sycophants in the media would have to cover it.

I thought they already did that back during the Fast and Furious scandal.

He may have been censured or cited for contempt, but he wasn't impeached.

Articles of Impeachment, in both a bill in the House and a "trial" in the Senate, is an excellent way to get our "representatives in Congress" on the record. Go for it!

Where is Holder these days?  Man it's weird how people just disappear in the Obama Admin.

He's busy working to destroy Obama's political enemies.

Between owebuma shooting himself in the foot, and Holder shooting owebuma in the foot, it's a wonder rodeowebuma has any feet left.
Some shooting brought to you by fast and furious.

It's actually pretty good timing. The mid-term elections are a year out and this issue would be done (meaning Holder impeached by the House) before the August recess.

Of course, Dingy Harry and his sycophants won't even hold a trial, much less convict Holder.

I'm pretty sure he would be forced to hold the trial if the house passed articles of impeachment.

Sure, but what kind of delaying tactics and stonewalling would he engage in? My bet is he'd employ every trick available to him (and make up a few of his own) to keep from doing what the Constitution requires.

If the House passes Articles of Impeachment, the Senate has to try it. See here for details (http://politics.stackexchange.com/questions/970/is-the-senate-required-to-pursue-a-trial-if-presented-with-articles-of-impeachme).

I think Holder is just a trial run if the House passes Articles of Impeachment against him this year. I also think that the Republicans are counting of regaining the Senate while keeping the House for 2015-2016. Then, Katy bar the door after January, 2015. Obama will be impeached.

Conviction in the Senate is just a simple majority, IIRC.

From your lips (well, keyboard) to God's ears, Marv.

Unfortunately, as it would involve Republicans doing something other than bending over and grabbing the ankles for Dear Leader and his gang, I'll have to believe it when I see it.

Sorry about that but it requires a majority in the House and 2/3 in the Senate.

Yeah, I get all that -- Chief Justice presides, and that right there MIGHT make all the difference.

My point has been, and remains, that Dingy Harry will employ every trick, use every method of stonewalling, resort to every delay tactic that he possibly can within his power as Senate Majority Leader. He's done it throughout his tenure and he'll continue to do it until he's ousted -- which I hope will be in Jan. 2015.

Correct. Which is why actual conviction is nigh on impossible.

I stand corrected. My apologies for not researching this further.

To make amends for my previous carelessness, here is a list of co-sponsors:
Quote
Rep. Phil Roe (R-TN), Rep. Ted Yoho (R-FL), Rep. Lynn Westmoreland (R-GA), Rep. Larry Bucshon (R-IN), Rep. Blake Farenthold (R-TX), Rep. Randy Weber (R-TX), Rep. Roger Williams (R-TX), Rep. Bill Flores (R-TX), Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX), Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN).

Here is a summary of the Articles of Impeachment provided by Rep. Pete Olson (R-TX):
Quote
Article I of the impeachment proceedings claims that Holder “engaged in a pattern of conduct incompatible with the trust and confidence placed in him” by refusing to comply with a subpoena issued by the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee for documents related to “a legitimate congressional investigation into Operation Fast and Furious by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms that put thousands of illegally-purchased weapons into the hands of cartel leaders, ultimately resulting in the death of U.S. Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry on December 14, 2010.”

Article II of the proceedings charges that Holder violated his oath of office by refusing to enforce certain laws that the Obama administration, for various reasons, decided not to enforce, including the Defense of Marriage Act, which the administration deemed unconstitutional.

Article III also charges that Holder violated his oath of office, this time by “refusing to prosecute individuals involved in the Internal Revenue Service scandal of unauthorized disclosure of tax records belonging to political donors.”

Article IV claims Holder “provided false testimony to the House Judiciary Committee” regarding the potential prosecution of a member of the news media, Fox News correspondent James Rosen, using the Espionage Act.

It was introduced in the House yesterday.

Wow. Until now I thought it was all bluster. I sure would like to see the conservatives follow all the way up on this.

If your original point was correct my response would be they are required to pass a budget and we have only had one budget during the past five years. So even if it was required Reid wouldn't do it.
