So, I was sitting on a chair in the hall of the county courthouse this morning

waiting for the driver's license office to open. Now we live in a fairly conservative rural county in Iowa. Lots of work over the past two elections turned it blue enough to get the vote out for the President.
Anyway, this guy with a shock of gray hair atop craggy sunbrowned face and wearing bibbed overalls and and a barn coat walked up. He asked me if I knew where the restrooms were. Well, I only go out there once very 4-5 years to renew my driver's licence so I can't be of assistance. A clerk walked out of one of the offices and directed him on his way. He returned in about 10 minutes and stopped again. Said he was there to check about jury duty and he was anxious about it because he had finally found a new job. He was starting over again and was fearful that jury duty would derail him with the job.
We started to chat a bit and he told me that his wife had passed away a couple of years ago after a prolonged illness. She had also been dropped by the insurance that they had paid $800/month for. Her out of pocket medical bills were $400K by the time she passed. He shook his head and told me that he had paid it all off except for the final $11K, for which he had been working temp jobs or anything he could get to earn enough to pay off. He had liquidated all of his assets--sold his house and outbuildings, vehicles, and furniture. Said he had been unable to get insurance himself because he had a pre-existing condition.
At the onset of this conversation, I was kind of expecting a sledgehammer to be lowered on Dems and ACA because he had come to this area from Steve King's district. Instead, the man went on to tell me that he didn't blame the President for the problems with the ACA. That he blamed Congress and wanted to see all of those who are trying to stand in the the way of ACA and the work of the government be voted out of office. He was very upset with King and his "buddies" (Cruz and the 40 thieves) and he really would like to get Boehner in a room to give him a piece of his mind.
You know, it was nice to hear someone else say this out loud. Sometimes you just have to step away from the naysayers of the cyber universe.
I'm sure he shared his financial problems with a total stranger that most likely looked like a moonbat.

1. Basically, a good person wiped out financially due to a medical bill, one of the
problems that the ACA would prevent. He and his wife paid $800/month for nothing, he and she were likely then people with a little money in their pockets as later paying an $800,000 debt attests to. Why isn't this man's story being brought forward to counter the fear mongering bullshit of the Palins and Cruzes of the country?
Because he doesn't exist.

12. Thanks for posting this good news Skidmore.
More stories/experiences like that need to be made public.
Why not send it to Rachael or some of the others at MSNBC
Is the carpet muncher the new Keef?

sounds like the chief editor of this bouncy called down to central casting and ordered up the stereotypical old cracker hayseed character to play the part.
-
It all sounds like a high school English homework assignment.

Send bouncies to Rachel/Keef and all will be right with the world!!!!!

Yeah, because every time I go to the DMV I always have long, in depth conversations about current issues important to democrats! In fact, hop on over to any DMV in the country, you'll find people everywhere sharing private information they wouldn't even share with an aquaintance for the sole purpose of praising 0bamacare and blaming Republicans, who had no involvement from start to finish, for the albatross this was destined to become. And most often it's those right wing rednecks going through an enlightened transformation to Marxism and government dependence.
What's not to love: a program about which the president deliberately lied through his teeth, people losing the insurance they liked and forced into a "better" plan with higher premiums and deductibles. Then there's that whole substandard prescription copays thing. We get a much less robust policy that covers things we don't want while forcing them to abandon insurance that covered what they want. After all, the government knows best! Just because I'm 54 and am well beyond the need for birth control or prenatal care, you just never know.
Oh, and then there's the whole doctor thing! As long as your doctor is on the special "invite" list (because the administration gets to pick them) and if they can afford to keep their practice with the government deciding what they're going to be paid for their services, then yes, most definitely you can keep your doctor!

I give it 4 1/2 bongs. A So would have gotten it to 5.
1. Talking point countering all facts and reality given.
2. Stereotypical description of republican.
3. Heat ache and pain because of evil corporations.
4. Lots of specifics about someone else's financials.
5. Conversion of supposed republican to the messiah.
You know this total and complete disaster of the rollout of the cACA Obama HellCare is producing some pretty good bouncys. Desperation is really pushing the creative juices in the DUchebags.

He asked me if I knew where the restrooms were.
I don't believe a man stopped and asked for directions. Period. Bouncy!

Even as a fictional spirit-guide who has seen all sorts of wonders, I'm amazed at how Bouncies for issues at hand always appear at DU. Just like clockwork.
Skidmore has been a member of DU for years. All of a sudden, suspiciously after the overlord’s health crap is being revealed for the the crap that it is, a complete stranger (who just happens to look like someone who would be a conservative) stops to tell Skidmore all sort of personal information and puts down anyone who is standing against the overlord.
With the above in mind let’s pretend that the overlord decrees that all men must wear their pants backwards. I have no doubt that within a few days of normal, decent people complaining about the decree Skidmore would be on DU with a story that is similar to the below…
So I was on a chair (Skidmore doesn’t sit in a chair) in the hall of the county courthouse this morning waiting for the driver's license office to open. Now we live in a fairly conservative rural county in Iowa. Lots of work over the past two elections turned it blue enough to get the vote out for the President.
Anyway, this guy with a shock of gray hair atop craggy sunbrowned face and wearing a barn coat walked up, and a pair of much faded backwards blue jeans.
We started to chat a bit and he told me that his wife had passed away a couple of years ago after nicking an artery while gardening. He shook his head and told me that he had a hemostat in his back pocket that he could have used to stop the bleeding, but he was wearing his pants normally and just couldn’t get to it in time.
At the onset of this conversation, I was kind of expecting a sledgehammer to be lowered on Dems and overlord’s backward pants decree as he had come to this area from Steve King's district. Instead, the man went on to tell me that he didn't blame the overlord for decreeing that men wear their pants backward. That if he was wearing his pants backward during the accident he could have reached the hemostat in time. That he blamed Congress and wanted to see all of those who are trying to stand in the the way of wearing pants backwards and the work of the overlord be voted out of office. He was very upset with King and his "buddies" (Cruz and the 40 thieves) and he really would like to get Boehner in a room to give him a piece of his mind.

This was the funniest part of the bouncy. Where's the haystalk though? And that was some mighty personal financial information her character shared with a complete stranger.
Everyone fell for it.

Oh good Lord!!!
I missed that!
Thank you. Then it gets a 5 bonger.

Okasy, I know Mary lives in a college town in Iowa, so there's nothing "red" about her district. Another thing is, how did she know this farmer came from King's district? And she should've claimed this guy successfully signed up for Obamacare, thus saving himself thousands of dollars a month.

I think Skidmore lives in the eastern part of Iowa. There really aren't a whole lot of "college" towns in Rep. Steve King's district, although there are a few but really really small colleges. And King's district is in the western part of the state. Lending credence that this is likely a bouncy.

I think the skidmarked underwear primitive, the grey drab disconsolate older farmwife, lives reasonably close to the Rock Island-Davenport area; her husband works on an assembly-line.

"wearing bibbed overalls and and a barn coat "
Got to admit, this is a nice touch.

Back in 1979, my Dad and I got to tour the International Harvester combine assembly plant in Rock Island, but this was before the Case-IH merger.

Funny, but in the MANY places I've lived, there has NEVER been a DMV inside a county courthouse building.
Can anyone else help me with that?
I'm guessing the more likely scenario is that the DUmmie was in court for a DUI or other offense that resulted in his license being suspended or revoked--THAT I can believe.

YEARS ago, (I mean back in the 70's here), our DMV was in the courthouse, and only open Wednesdays and Fridays. Beginning around 1980, they moved to their own permanent location and are open Monday-Friday and half-days Saturdays.

Ours is right above the county sherriff's office. Probably some convenience factor for the cops to come up and grab people with outstanding warrants.
-
Ours is in the courthouse, and open every Thursday from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m.
There's never a line, and the guy's usually idly doing crossword puzzles.
But I can see where NHSparky's coming from; in bigger places in Nebraska, the office is off-site.

Down the road from you Sparky is a DMV located on the north side of the General Sullivan bridge.
We go there to get license renewal, plates and drivers tests etc. First we go to our town hall in town to pay our taxes on the car, some other stuff that one has to make out 2 checks to someone, then over the bridge to the DMV. A medium sized brick building and a parking lot large enough to have a tryout area for those looking for a motorcycle license.
Right under your nose Sparky, it has been there for years. You take the first exit after going over the General toward Dover hang a left and another left at stop lights before you get to the bridge that goes to Durham.
Most DMV's are located out of town as there is need to have a place for testing both on and off road. Except for the Rockingham Court house that is located out in the boon docks, the most city court houses are located in town and to make DMV a place for it is impossible.
I trust your instincts on this one but----with so many aliens getting licenses there may be need to go to a court house to prove their identity first before going to DMV.

Norfolk has one in the courthouse/town hall complex.

When I first started reading this post I thought "Oh, Skid is going to renew her carry permit". Then of course I remembered where I was.

What's most amazing to the libs is that someone paid their own families heathcare themselves ! Unfathomable.

For a while there were huge lines here in red state hell. Long lines would form hours before opening time.
mexican entrepreneurs were bringing in thousands of illegals from all over the Southeast, charging them huge fees for transportation and a driver's license.
The last of the red state democrat governors was selling licenses to illegal mexicans, hoping they would stay and vote.
He had presidential aspirations, and saw it as a way to gain mexican votes, but his star sputtered and went dark shortly afterward.
It was awful, but it accelerated the avalanche of Republican winning candidates who took over and corrected the travesty.
Now we do license renewals online, so no one knows who's getting them.

Did you not read what I wrote, or was the smoke from the hippie lettuce you were getting hammered on make it too difficult to see what was on your screen?
I know quite well where the DMV office on Dover Point is located. And FYI, no court anywhere near it.
I also know where the DMV is in Epping, and where it used to be in Rochester before they closed it.
No courts in any of them.
Nor in any of the DMV's I went to in California, Idaho, New Mexico, Colorado, Florida, or any other state in which I was licensed or resided in.
While there have been a few places that do combine municipal/county/state facilities, these seem to be the exception, not the rule.
Except for your lack of comprehension...THAT is an unyielding law, much like gravity.

Well, I don't know - this is the courthouse Mary went to:

Johnson County is one of, if not the most liberal in the state of Iowa. Home of the University of Iowa. Also one of the largest counties, and certainly not mostly rural.
Something is very wrong here.
