On to promote his new movie "Hancock," Will Smith was pushed by "Today" co-host Matt Lauer to express his support for Barack Obama and the actor/rapper, channeled his inner Michelle Obama, as he declared it's the "first time" in five to 10 years it's been good to be an American overseas [audio available here (http://newsbusters.org/static/2008/06/2008-06-23-NBC-TDY-Smith.mp3)]:
WILL SMITH: You know I just, I just came back from Moscow, Berlin, London and Paris and it's the first, I've been there quite a few times in the past five to 10 years. And it just hasn't been a good thing to be American. And this is the first time, since Barack has gotten the nomination, that it, it was a good thing.
The following is an excerpt from the interview as it occurred on the June 22, "Today" show:
MATT LAUER: Let me get you on the record on politics here, okay? It's been-
WILL SMITH: No.
LAUER: Yeah, please.
(laughter)
LAUER: It's been, you basically come out and said, "Look what I have to do to help Barack Obama win, I'll do." You know, "Call on me."
SMITH: Absolutely.
LAUER: Has he called on you and are, are you supporting Barack Obama 'cause you would've supported anybody the Democrats put forward or that you just think he's the man?
SMITH: You know I just, I just came back from Moscow, Berlin, London and Paris and it's the first, I've been there quite a few times in the past five to 10 years. And it just hasn't been a good thing to be American. And this is the first time, since Barack has gotten the nomination, that it, it was a good thing. You know the-
LAUER: Do you think people can't get behind America led by John McCain?
SMITH: You know I just, there, there are, there are certain ideas that I believe Barack stands for that are fundamental that the forefathers of this country wrote down on paper that we're all supposed to pay attention to, we're not supposed to ignore it and do what we want to do 'cause we have different ideas. And I believe just at his core the, that those ideas just they, they just come of his pores. And I'm, I'm excited to support him.
LAUER: And so the question everybody gets right now, if he calls you and wants you to be his Vice President you will?
SMITH: I will, and you know, I mean, I, I, I love this country and I'll do what I have to do. You know so, if I, if I have to run, you know, America really has an ear fetish. So I think I definitely have the ears for, Barack and I, we could do it.

Why, oh why, do these "celebutards" just HAVE to open their traps? :bird:

Like the idea of universal healthcare?
Like the idea of abortion?
Like the idea of class warfare?
Funny, I didn't see those written down in my copy of the Constitution. Of course, I did get my copy from the eeeeevil Heritage Foundation. Maybe that explains it...

**** you Will.
I can scratch seeing your new movie off of my list of things to do.
If you wrote off all entertainment where the stars are loudmouth idiots, you would have to get rid of your TV, radio and CD/MP3 player, and just watch old Ronald Reagan movies for the rest of your life.
I only boycott the extreme ones (babs & husband, sarandon & husband, dixie chicks) since looking at them (much less hearing them) makes me physically ill. Sort of sad in the case of babs, because she has great pipes, but when I hear her sing, all I can hear is her screeching Brooklyn speaking voice mouthing off empty-mindedly.

I'm sure Will ****ing Smith has a hard time getting accepted overseas. Being as he is so unpopular. A woman I work with saw that and said Matt Laur pushed him on it. He didn't just come on and spew this shit. I wasn't going to see this new movie anyway. It looks stupid.
-
maybe he's just angling to play Oooobama in the biopic. :-)
Besides, he lost me when he started flirting with Scientology.
-
More racism from another VERY SUCCESSFUL AMERICAN!
**** you Will Smith!
-
**** you Will.
I can scratch seeing your new movie off of my list of things to do.
If I want to see that racist's new movie, I'll just download it for free...

Hancock was a movie that I planned on seeing in theaters, not freaking anymore. **** him.
-
I'm so sad for them. That they can't find it in their hearts to be proud of their country. Screw them. With all America has given them and they can't be proud? They can spin the freaking globe and pick anywhere they would like to live, with their money, and they can take Brock with them.
I'm telling you this sh** is going to backfire!

I don't know what political ideology Morgan Freeman claims, but I don't think I would ever hear something like that come out of his mouth...and he's FROM the Mississippi delta. Same with James Earl Jones. I would be very disappointed if Morgan ever said it. Will Smith? Not too much. Screw'em.

Morgan Freeman is very much a liberal idiot. I have heard him pontificate in even more length about how awful Conservatives are (they never have constructive statements, just railing against the Right).
James Earl Jones has been wisely apolitical to the best of my knowledge.

That may be so, but he's not as prominent as the other fools out there and I don't think he'd ever utter any words about just now being proud of this country. This country has been good to Morgan Freeman.
...and if he thinks Republicans are so f'n bad, I wonder what he has to say about his dumbass Democratic representatives from the State of Mississippi like Bennie Thompson. He gets richer while the area becomes more and more dilapidated. Years ago Bennie Thompson purchased a top of the line 4WD SUV at the tax payer's expense. His reasoning? He needed to get to his constituents when it snowed. This is the f'n delta of Mississippi we're talking about here. It snows, it's gone by lunch or at the most the next day.

Hypothetically speaking, if one wanted to enjoy the work of an artist without contributing to that artist's bottom line, I've heard tell that there are ways of enjoying said art without paying money for it.
Not that I know anything about or endorse such means, I'm just saying.

You know, I think, like wow, I, I, I really believe, you know, like, Will can't, you know, like, talk without a script.

He shares that trait with his guy hussein.
-
Has Will Smith ever done anything to give back to his "community"? Has he taken positive steps, himself, to improve the country that has given him so much?
Or is he just bitching after he "got his"?
:whatever:
-
Will Smith is also a Scientologist. I lost my respect for him a while before he started the Obama crap. Used to like the guy, now he's a moron.
