Cut in food stamps to hit low-income Americans this week

WASHINGTON/LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - One of every seven Americans will take a hit on Friday when a $5 billion cut in food stamps, the first across-the-board reduction in the history of the decades-old federal program, takes effect.
But if conservative Republicans in Congress get their way, this week's pullback may be just a taste of what's to come for some of the almost 48 million Americans who receive benefits under the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.
SNAP, the largest U.S. anti-hunger program, is designed to help poor people - most of them children, disabled or elderly - buy food. But enrollment has doubled and the program's cost has nearly tripled since 2004, and has remained at record levels even as the economy improves and unemployment declines.
Food stamps are being cut starting on Friday. Too many people are on it.

Food stamps are not being cut. That is a lie perpetuated by the left wing media. They are only being reduced back to their pre stimulus levels. Obama pushed through that stimulus on a partisan vote and the temporary increase was all it was ever meant to be. Anyone feeling any pain from this should blame Democrats for giving them false hope.
The above is true, and it is just what the lefties used to justify letting the Bush Tax Cuts expire.

Of course none of this would mean jack shit if the economy were worth a damn and people were able to find work.
But no one wants to talk about that. Instead they want to talk about the "evil GOP" who wont just keep giving away other peoples hard earned money.
If the economy were actually doing well people could find good jobs and get off of these programs. But its not, so they are stuck.
There also is the fact that in 18 states it pays more to be on food stamps and welfare than it does to get a job. Thats by design mind you, but thats a totally different can of worms for a different topic.

For the life of me, I still can't figure out why the stock market is up.

They are just getting what they can while the feds continue to pump out easy money. If they stopped that then the market would correct and come back down to Earth.

Which is why the Fed is scared to do anything but keep on doing what they have been doing. Low interest rates and easy money for the rich means Wall Street keeps humming along, but nothing else does. The economy won't rebound until Obama lets it self correct.
