"Bernie Sanders talks about...the possibility of a presidential run...." [View all]
Social Democracy in the South
Bernie Sanders talks about economic justice—and the possibility of a presidential run—on a three-day road trip.
http://inthesetimes.com/article/15784/social_democracy_in_the_south/
One couldn’t help but notice the vaguely presidential tinge of the whole affair—the wide-reaching stump speeches delivered in unfamiliar territory coupled with the fact that Sanders was greeted with a rock star reception that few other senators are capable of generating—let alone in the immediate aftermath of a government shutdown that left an already deeply unpopular Congress with its lowest approval ratings in the history of polling.
I asked the Senator if he was contemplating a presidential run in 2016. Some left-wing Democrats urged him to challenge Obama in the primary last election, and there’s once again talk of him mounting a campaign—like last time, all of it speculative. He says he doesn’t want to.
“I suppose if you’re running for president, probably going to Mississippi and Alabama is not the place most candidates would go. You go to Iowa and New Hampshire or something like that,†Sanders says with a laugh. “But what I do think is there needs to be a progressive voice in the presidential process. I hope very much there will be a voice coming up to do that.â€
But when pressed to say if he’s completely decided against running, he acknowledges he hasn’t. “I haven’t ruled it out.â€
Wow. If Bernie ran...DU would go crazy ! I was amazed to read this.

Bernie = snowball....Winning the Presidency of the US = Hell

The DUmp would sound like a dark alley with dozens of randy tom-cats.
I just have to read that now.

155. Pretty please with a cherry on top?
God, I can't imagine how exciting it would be to vote for an actual progressive and not someone who wants to be seen as bi-partisan and far too often cares more about that than principals.

3. I would love to see a President Sanders
Unfortunately his age may prevent this from happening, he is currently 72 and will be 75 by the time the election takes place. He would be a great candidate in so many ways, I would love to see him run but I would have concerns for his health.

19. If Bernie ran for president
I would quit my job, and go broke campaigning for him!
You wouldn't see me around here during that time either, as I would spend each and every waking hour working to see that WE THE PEOPLE finally get a president!

24. Just think, though, of his progressive ideas having a national exposure.....'Twould be fascinating!

Did somebody already say that?
Something good would come of a Sanders campaign, I'm sure of it.

Okay all you molers
Start pushing Sanders 2016 for the primaries.
Make him a contender. Make him get so close he has an incentive to savage Hillary and the rest and they in turn have to disavow everything he stands for.
Put the commies and the triangulators in the same room with a box full of broken bottles and dirty razor blades and let them savage each other.
SANDERS 2016: We're not really going back to white people in charge...he's actually kinda translucent...like a cave fish.
SANDERS 2016: The Tea Party is wrong. The government can't steal from you if you're already broke, now can it?
SANDERS 2016: Somebody that old and wrinkly has to know something.
SANDERS 2016: Sure he looks like a basset hound but everybody likes basset hounds.

They are really for Bernie Sanders, but not Ralph Nader???????????? :???: :mental:

Isn't Bernie a little old for this nonsense?
I'm sure he's about ready for the complete-care nursing home.

Start pushing Sanders 2016 for the primaries.
If they run Sanders, and the repukes run Cruz, Ross Perot's day may have finally arrived.
-
Commie Sanders taking on Commie Clinton. What a match-up.
-
The only reason they are pushing for Sanders is they figure that a genuine commie would make the road to socialism that much shorter.

I dunno if hearing people notice this, because they're too busy hearing what he's saying.
I've always noticed something else about when Bernie speaks, probably because I can't hear what he's saying.
Old Bernie spits a lot, liquid saliva flying all directions, its velocity dependent upon his level of righteous indignation about this thing or another thing.
I kid you not; if you have a chance to see a close-up on television of him, watch closely.
I once had a dream where I was called to testify to a Senate committee where Bernie was a member, and I insisted that if he couldn't be placed at least twenty feet away from me, I wanted a sheet of 3/4" plexiglass in between him and me, so I wouldn't get involuntarily showered.

OH, Old Bernie and Bonnie Fwank have spitting in common......is Bernie also queer?

I dunno, but while Old Bernie alleges himself to be a "share the wealth" socialist, he sure isn't sharing his own stash with those who have less. Sharing's for other people, not Old Bernie, to do.

Oh my.....he's a real liberal then.....not a fake one like some.....but for the life of me right now I can't think of a single liberal that shares their wealth.....voluntarily..

There's quite a difference between the old-time socialists and the ones which currently burden us.
Think of the mega-multi-millionaire Alan Grayson begging for pennies from the primitives because he doesn't want to spend his own stash on running for office.
And then recall a mid-20th-century socialist in Congress, Vito Marcantonio from New York City, a man of very modest means. He self-financed his own political campaigns--gasp! using his own money--from legal fees he earned himself as an attorney, rather than asking other people for money so he wouldn't have to spend his.
They don't make socialists like they used to.
-
By the way, the big guy in Bellevue is no Vito Marcantonio.

greatest gift to we the people.
Waving away well-meaning initiatives? Hah! The people would be so behind Sanders it would make their heads explode.
He's not a dem, nor a GOP'er....he's perfection - if he runs....I'm so there, and that kind of exuberance and devotion would be absolutely contagious....he'd rise to the top immediately.
IMMEDIATELY....did I say immediately? Cuz it would be instantaneous!
WATCH this thread explode to the top too.

Sorry but in today's America I would say he has a very good chance at winning. Sad but true. :p
It you remember Nader's campaign, his biggest enemies weren't the GOP and its candidates, they were the main party DemonRats, who would literally stoop to any legalistic shenanigan to keep him off ballots, drag him into expensive legal battles over fundraising or petitioning, and otherwise do everything they could to screw up his campaign. The hypocrisy wasn't lost on the Progs, and the institutional DemonRat candidate they had then was on a lot stronger footing with them than any of the ones they're likely to put up in 2016. Hillary is damaged goods, but she remains the biggest threat because so many center-Left women will vote for her just for identity politics reasons.

That's what my wife tells me about her female friends.....they'll vote for Hillary just because she's split between the legs.
Voter ID hell.....we need some kind of test that you have to pass before you're allowed to vote.

That's Racist!! /DU Mode off /Sarcasm off
Seriously though, yes we do. And the sad thing is, it will never pass, as that would cripple the Democrat voter base.

By the way, the big guy in Bellevue is no Vito Marcantonio.
I'd like to see the balance sheet for his latest campaign.
Did he spend even one cent? I doubt it.

How about Sanders/Grayson? I'd love that combo for pure entertainment value.

Also, wouldn't supporting Sanders be against the DUmp terms of service? After all, Sanders is an independent.
From the Mission Statement (http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=aboutus)
- Helping elect more Democrats to political office at all levels of American government
Vote for Democrats. (http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=termsofservice)
Winning elections is important — therefore, advocating in favor of Republican nominees or in favor of third-party spoiler candidates that could split the vote and throw an election to our conservative opponents is never permitted on Democratic Underground. But that does not mean that DU members are required to always be completely supportive of Democrats. During the ups-and-downs of politics and policy-making, it is perfectly normal to have mixed feelings about the Democratic officials we worked hard to help elect. When we are not in the heat of election season, members are permitted to post strong criticism or disappointment with our Democratic elected officials, or to express ambivalence about voting for them. In Democratic primaries, members may support whomever they choose. But when general election season begins, DU members must support Democratic nominees (EXCEPT in rare cases where were a non-Democrat is most likely to defeat the conservative alternative, or where there is no possibility of splitting the liberal vote and inadvertently throwing the election to the conservative alternative). For presidential contests, election season begins when both major-party nominees become clear. For non-presidential contests, election season begins on Labor Day. Everyone here on DU needs to work together to elect more Democrats and fewer Republicans to all levels of American government. If you are bashing, trashing, undermining, or depressing turnout for our candidates during election season, we'll assume you are rooting for the other side.

Perhaps it is all wishful thinking - But if Bernie Sanders did run for President in 2016 - would you (http://www.democraticunderground.com/10023944784)
support him in the primaries - assuming he ran seeking the Democratic nomination for President?
Some of you may have seen this thread:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/10023933909
82 votes, 5 passes | Time left: Unlimited
No, Hillary is still a safer bet 4 (5%)
I can't say - maybe 2 (2%)
I like Bernie - but I think he should stick with the Senate - 2 (2%)
He is way to far left for the American public - this would be snatching defeat from almost certain victory and handing the White House to the Republicans on a silver platter 8 (10%)
Yes, I would support him for the Democratic nomination for President of the United States 37 (45%)
I would not only support Sen. Sanders for President - I would give every moment of my spare time and every bit of money I could possibly afford to trying to elect him President 29 (35%)
I don't know why people put butter on things when margarine taste so much better 0 (0%)
5 DU members did not wish to select any of the options provided.
-
Do the Bernie Shuffle... one hand in someone else's wallet and one foot in the grave.
The thought of him running is comical.

No test needed, but you must own property.
We had that law once but democrats couldn't win so the rules were changed.
