AP: JFK's image shines on despite contradictions

BOSTON (AP) — Four days a week, David O'Donnell leads a 90-minute "Kennedy Tour" around Boston that features stops at government buildings, museums, hotels and meeting halls.

Tour-goers from throughout the United States and abroad, who may see John F. Kennedy as inspiration, martyr or Cold War hero, hear stories of his ancestors and early campaigns, the rise of the Irish in state politics, the odd fact that Kennedy was the only president outlived by his grandmother.

Yet at some point along the tour, inevitably, questions from the crowd shift from politics to gossip.

"Someone will ask, 'Did Jack Kennedy have an affair with Marilyn Monroe?' With this woman? That woman?" explains O'Donnell, who has worked for a decade in the city's visitors bureau. Those asking forgive the infidelities as reflecting another era, he says. "It's something people, in an odd way, just accept."

The Kennedy image, the "mystique" that attracts tourists and historians alike, did not begin with his presidency and is in no danger of ending 50 years after his death. Its journey has been uneven but resilient — a young and still-evolving politician whose name was sanctified by his assassination, upended by discoveries of womanizing, hidden health problems and political intrigue, and forgiven in numerous polls that place JFK among the most beloved of former presidents.

The DUmmies gloss right over the unpleasant facts--the dark side of John F. for f**khead Kennedy--the contradictions that were the focus of the linked article.  Instead of an honest assessment of Bad Back Jack, this is what they reply with:

6. I remember that too -

from my one live view of him in September 1963 - his hair was like burnished chestnut shining in the sun! He literally glowed!

For me, that glow has remained untarnished.

Given the deliberate dismantling of our democracy since then, I certainly belong among those who believe that the true story of his assassination has yet to be told.

What was the magic that gave this crippled up circus freak that burnished chestnut glow?

“I was sitting next to him in the living room when a handful of yellow capsules — most likely amyl nitrate, commonly known as poppers — was offered up by one of the guests. The president asked me if I wanted to try the drug, which stimulated the heart but also purportedly enhanced sex. I said no, but he just went ahead and popped the capsule and held it under my nose.”

It wasn’t her first glimpse of Kennedy’s dark side.
“He had been guilty of an even more callous and unforgivable episode at the White House” during a noon swim. Powers had rolled up his pants to cool his feet in the water. “The president swam over and whispered in my ear. ‘Mr. Powers looks a little tense,’ he said. ‘Would you take care of it?’
“It was a dare, but I knew exactly what he meant. This was a challenge to give Dave Powers oral sex. I don’t think the president thought I’d do it, but I’m ashamed to say that I did . . . The president silently watched.”

One of their last times together was at a Boston Democratic fund-raiser. Ted Kennedy, the president’s baby brother, was in the room with them.
“I could see that mischievous look come into his eye. ‘Mimi, why don’t you take care of my baby brother? He could stand a little relaxation.’
“You’ve got to be kidding me,” she replied firmly. “Absolutely not, Mr. President.”

What a degenerate.  And a national tragedy that sympathy votes kept his degenerate pig baby brother Ted in office--not to mention keeping his idiot children and nieces and nephews in office/in the public eye to this day.  Face it DUmmies, John F. Kennedy was a pig and an embarrassment to the office.  The DUmmies got fooled by Jack's haircut and white teeth in the same way that they are getting fooled by the Chicago lightworker.

He did cut taxes, so yes he would be.

Kennedy would be drummed out of the current evil democrat party.

Yes exactly. He was hardly liberal. Sure he had his female issues, (MANY issues) but I love his economic policies.
He wanted to do away with the federal reserve and pursued backing our money with silver at the very least.
LBJ nixed that unsurprisingly. He was not a weak democrat, and I think he would have  been disgusted with Obama. (ending the space shuttle program...just saying)

Btw, these dummies romanticize JFK only because he was assassinated. They know nothing of his policies, all they know is that he was a young president with a young wife, whose term ended prematurely. They have not read about him, and have merely idolized him based on the media portrayal of "Camelot", which Jackie carefully constructed for this very reason. He had many weaknesses, as so many other leaders do. He seemed to have an addiction to sexual crusades, which made his administration vulnerable - and worse, it could have been dangerous towards our national security. However, he was indeed a conservative democrat, which does not exist today. He differed from papa joe greatly in his political beliefs, and I believe his eldest brother joe jr would have been a president close to that of Wilson had he lived. One thing remains certain, JFK would never have gotten the democratic nomination today, as he would most likely be registered republican.

He did cut taxes, so yes he would be.

Plus he was anti-communist and strongly supported the space program.

But that one "ask not" line in his inaugural address would be enough to disqualify him as a democrat today.
