Thousands Of Consumers Get Insurance Cancellation Notices Due To Health Law Changes
But the cancellation notices, which began arriving in August, have shocked many consumers in light of President Barack Obama’s promise that people could keep their plans if they liked them.
“I don’t feel like I need to change, but I have to,†said Jeff Learned, a television editor in Los Angeles, who must find a new plan for his teenage daughter, who has a health condition that has required multiple surgeries.
An estimated 14 million people purchase their own coverage because they don’t get it through their jobs. Calls to insurers in several states showed that many have sent notices.
Florida Blue, for example, is terminating about 300,000 policies, about 80 percent of its individual policies in the state. Kaiser Permanente in California has sent notices to 160,000 people – about half of its individual business in the state. Insurer Highmark in Pittsburgh is dropping about 20 percent of its individual market customers, while Independence Blue Cross, the major insurer in Philadelphia, is dropping about 45 percent.

You didn't just drink the Kool-Aid, primitives. You shot up the stuff with intravenous needles, and licked up some of the dry powder that was spilled on the counter in the process of making it. Yet somehow, you idiots are't the only ones in danger of diabetes from too much intake. You scumbags had to take us with you!!

1. Those policies do not qualify under the AcA.
You forgot this part.
By all accounts, the new policies will offer consumers better coverage, in some cases, for comparable cost -- especially after the inclusion of federal subsidies for those who qualify. The law requires policies sold in the individual market to cover 10 “essential†benefits, such as prescription drugs, mental health treatment and maternity care. In addition, insurers cannot reject people with medical problems or charge them higher prices. The policies must also cap consumers’ annual expenses at levels lower than many plans sold before the new rules.
Why would you leave out that part? Hmm?

5. But that was not what the President promised. He said "If you like your health plan you can keep
it. Period." Not you can keep it if it meets the new standards.
I guess the blind squirrel finds his nuts once in a while. Or however the saying is supposed to go. :-)

17. These anarchists don't realize how great paying premiums, copays and deductibles are
I mean, they are getting more, more, more! Why can't they shut up and be happy already?

FarCenter has been on a roll. I wonder why he/she/it is so upset?
I mean, it's not like any rational person didn't expect this after watching twenty years of Clinton/Gore/Kerry/Obama stump speeches coupled with the spectacular failure that was HillaryCare.

There wre some 11th hour changes to allow it to qualify.

Roughly 16 million Americans will lose their current plans (http://healthpolicyandmarket.blogspot.com/2013/10/week-two-of-obamacare-federal-health.html#more)

I went to sign up a few days ago just to make sure I'm informed...
I wonder if these idiots realize that most the plans (in my state at least) are 50/50 copays... meaning they will have to pay for 50% of the doctor visit on the spot. I would hate to be the front desk person in some of these doctors offices when they are told they have to pay something....
Let me also add, that I can go to eHealthInsurance.com and get a cheaper premium, lower copays, and lower deductibles.
Idiots...

Yea, but Obammacare or something. You know as long as medical MJ is covered dude.

Like I said, I'm one of them and my premiums under the BRONZE plan will be double, the deductible double, and the co-pays 2.5 times more. Now of course I get maternity benefits, transgender operation benefits, free female contraception, free mammograms, free eye and dental for kids I don't have, and I'm sure a lot of other things I don't need as a 53 year old man.
I'm going to go back and see what the premiums are for the same deductible and co-pays are. I think it will be a gold plan.
Socialism once again making everybody equally miserable. You know because FAIR!!!
When the crap of the cACA Obama HellCare fiasco settles, more people will have lost insurance than people gained. Let's remember that was the whole reason to screw over 85% of the population that was happy with the insurance. The only question will be is who or what Obama blames for his cluster ****, no, SIGNATURE cluster ****.

Hopefully, the 16 million who have lost their coverage ( and the others whose rates are skyrocketing) will make damned sure that they know which party was behind this cluster****, and vote accordingly in 2014 and 2016.

And of the (administration claim) of 476,000 signing up, how many of those were actually just shuffled off to their respective state Medicaid plans?
Yeah, I said the other day it would take 2.5 million young to support this. Seems that number got upped to 7 MILLION HEALTHY policyholders to offset the sick folks/uninsured signing up.
And it ain't even gonna be close.

I'm sure the repukes will be blamed, the media will make sure that the low information voters know we have always been at war with Eurasia.

Not to mention that for some strange reason the GOP refuses to run commercials or bring things like this up in debates.

I fully explained what happened to me to my very, very stupid DEMOCRATcongress woman. Explicitly told her the details and that I did not want a form letter back from my dumb scrunt in congress. This is what i got back.
Thank you for contacting me regarding the notification you received from your insurance provider about changes to your health insurance plan being canceled and the Affordable Care Act (ACA). As your Representative, I appreciate hearing your concerns and the opportunity to respond.
Although I cannot speak for your insurance company, it is very concerning to hear that your health insurance will be cancelled and I understand this has become a hardship for you and your family. There are many possible reasons why your insurance plan may have changed, some related to the ACA and some not. Americans with certain types of insurance plans in the individual or small group markets may be seeing changes to their policies, and some have been dropped from coverage altogether. These changes could have occurred for a number of reasons, including the possibility that current plans do not meet minimum requirements for coverage.
I fully explained that it was totally due to the cACA bill and my non-need for maternity, mammograms, drug abuse clinics, free female contraception, and children's eye and dental policies. All in the bill that this DUmb bitch voted for without reading. To be fair, I don't think she knows how to read
Currently, many health insurance plans can exclude people with pre-existing conditions, provide limited benefits, cap total benefits and often require a lot of patient cost sharing. All of these efforts to avoid having to pay for care means that these plans insure relatively healthy people and are able to provide low monthly premiums; it also often means that if you get sick the benefits take a long time to actually kick-in or they may not be there when needed. The ACA prevents many of these practices and requires these insurance plans to offer more robust coverage beginning in 2014. Furthermore, the ACA set up marketplaces, a one-stop shopping site for health insurance where customers can directly compare a variety of insurance plans.
Doesn't help me one bit because as I explained I pay double for half the coverage. I guess as a DUmb s**** she did not understand that.
As you know, Covered California, which opened on October 1, 2013, is the new marketplace where individuals, families and small businesses can get affordable, quality private health insurance. Covered California is designed to help Californians who do not receive coverage through an employer or public program get covered. All health care plans offered through Covered California must cover certain essential benefits. You may also find the Covered California Frequently Asked Questions page helpful. If you would prefer to be contacted by Covered California directly, you may fill out this form to do so.
If you have not done so already, I strongly recommend you Covered California’s calculator tool to determine if there is a health insurance plan that may be a good choice for you. In addition, you can call 1-800-300-1506 to speak to a Covered California representative to assess your specific options. The cost of obtaining coverage through the marketplace will depend on a variety of factors, including: income, family size, location, plan type, and premium assistance.
Again, I explained that to her staffer. Glad that I did not get that form letter.
Affordability is indeed an important component of the ACA, which is why there are policies in place to make sure what California families pay for health coverage does not exceed a set percentage of your income (those guidelines are available here) and more information on qualifying for financial premium assistance is available here. For example, individuals making up to about $46,000, and a household of four making up to about $92,000, may qualify for premium assistance. Nevertheless, even if you do not qualify for assistance paying for a plan's premium, you may still find that purchasing health insurance through Covered California is a good deal for your situation.
If affordability was an important component, why am I paying double for half the care? I bet she would fully agree that 1+1=POTATO if Nanzi or Barky told her it was.
To have coverage that starts January 2014, you need to complete enrollment by the middle of December. In addition, open enrollment closes on March 31, 2014. If you do not purchase health insurance during this open-enrollment period, you may not have access to all the insurance options available to you.
Changing the way our nation delivers health care was not a simple undertaking, and undoubtedly, the law will need to be adjusted and improved as we move forward. I will continue to push for reforms that will bring down public and private health care costs.
Please don't. I can't handle anymore of your lowering the price of my health care insurance.
In short:
Dear Jukin,
Go **** yourself.
Sincerely,
Somebody that is exempt and gets a huge subsidy while making almost $200,000/year.
