HOUSTON, Tex. – A big rig driver may have had the upper hand in a gun versus knife fight, but his actions landed him behind bars. KHOU reports that Douglas Saintlouis was arrested and charged for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after shooting a man he found slashing his tires on Tuesday night.
Saintlouis reportedly was sleeping in his cab parked near his apartment complex because someone had slashed his tires on Monday night. He was awakened by a hissing sound and saw a knife-wielding perpetrator cutting his tires. That man fled when Saintlouis went to confront him.
He should of killed the slasher. :argh:

I have never got that thing where you can't use more force to defend yourself. Say a knife vs a gun. Seems to me they aren't exactly going to announce if they really are going to just slightly wound you or kill you so why not take the criminal out with what you can? I think the victim should be able to kill someone if they are coming after them with any type of weapon.

It's in the story, Gina.
The truck driver wasn't in fear of his life. The slasher wasn't threatening the truck driver with the knife, he was simply destroying property.
Using deadly force on a person has to be in response to a direct threat to be justifiable. The driver chased the slasher and shot him in the ass.

UM, threatening someone's livelyhood is pretty damn a killable time IN MY opinion. Better not put me on a jury because I am not convicting.

Hey, don't get me wrong -- I see a sumbitch slashing my tires and I'll go from zero to tackle the sumbitch in 0.6 seconds and then cram the knife up his ass in the "tussle."
But the law says that defending your person when you're in fear for your life can justify the use of lethal force, but not so when you're defending your property and the bastard is fleeing.

Silly of him not to say the guy threatened him with the knife, really.

Assuming you aren't carrying a single-shot as your go-to gun, you can always roll them over and make sure there's a hole in the front, so the wounds will fit the one side of the story the official minions of the State are going to hear. Of course, you still have to use due care, it's kind of suspicious if the entrance and exit wounds line up vertically with a crater in the pavement underneath the perp, have to be fairly careful about details like that if you happen to have a load of highly-penetrating ammo like FMJ cued up when the shooting starts.

I don't know what kind of truck tires he was slashing but at $400+ a piece, I'd shoot him too.

Should have just left the scene afterwards. O-)
