Title: poll: is it over for the flashes in the pan?
Post by: franksolich on October 22, 2013, 07:25:02 PM
After a couple of months where it appeared some new primitive faces would decorate the Top DUmmies of 2013, it looks as if we're back to.....square one.....which means the oblate spheroid.

The brain-damaged primitive, Amber, the locust primitive, the big guy in Bellevue, &c., &c., &c., all made sudden surges bringing them into prominence, but now they appear to have faded away.

The brain-damaged primitive's back, but seems to enjoy nowhere near the eminence he once had among the primitives; the primitives probably forgot who he was.

Amber's degenerating into silly arteriosclerotic giddiness, becoming utterly uninteresting.

The locust primitive seems have been driven away by his fellow primitives.

The big guy in Bellevue made a tepid splash in re-running for office, and then.....evaporated.

I suspect we're back to nadin and that perennial runner-up, the Taverner primitive.

Only 36 more shopping days until nominations begin Thanksgiving Eve.

36 days could turn out to be almost as long as 24 business hours.  Based on that, I said "not sure."

I'm not giving up on LFR just yet.

DOTY always brings surprises...last year Kirk showing up here for example.
Way too early to guess.

Whatever happened to the old landlubber?

Gonna be hard to top "hide the remote."

That's true; something unexpected seems to happen any time between Thanksgiving and mid-December of every year.

My fondest recollection is that from the middle of the night, December 17, 2009, when Tangerine LaBamba graced us with her presence, and there was a flurry of public comments, personal messages, and e-mails during which time she spilled the beans on s-o-o-o-o-o-o-o many of her fellow primitives.

It took a long time to digest all those beans.

That was too late to affect the outcome--that was the year Pamela won top spot--but it did influence the selections the following year.

That's something to look forward to--something always happens; maybe this year it'll be the bitter old Vermontese cali primitive coming over to tell us all she knows--but at the moment, right now, it looks to me as if a "lock" for nadin, because the Taverner primitive, our last best hope, consistently fades in the home stretch, the last inning, and this year probably won't be any different.

As you know, because I write the awards, I have a selfish interest in who wins, especially which primitives win each of the top ten spots, because they get their own individual literary character sketch (the second ten get one award, about a sentence each).

Mr. Wiggum and I had a brief discussion one year, about how the writer gets stumped if presented with a top ten primitive about whom the writer knows little, if anything at all.  That happened to him, and that's happened to me.

And one can't create a character sketch out of thin air; one needs some skin and bones from which to work.

My own worst nightmare is that the elusive enigmatic Elad gets chosen for one of the top ten spots.  What can one possibly write about Elad, that'd be more than half a paragraph?

One likes best writing about the primitives one knows best.  I still consider the best award I ever wrote was that for the sparkling old dude the year he was Top DUmmie #02, behind only that miserable wretched hate-filled bitch the dysmenopausal schoolteacher from Kansas, Proud2BLibKansan.  That was in 2010, I believe.

That award was so good I'm sure the sparkling old dude's business partners printed off hundreds of copies of it, so as to include it with their materials advertising their business, so as to show how well-connected they are.

Not sure. Anything can happen.

Not sure. Anything can happen.

It's no secret I've been pimping for Skippy from New York City and the cooking and baking primitives (as a group)--I don't care where they end up, just so they each end up in the top ten, so I have to give them the franksolich literary treatment.  I'm sure that I could do a better job on Skippy than I did even for the sparkling old dude.

I believe there will be more surprise candidates as the reality of Obamacare sets in.

Apparently Doug Bulna got his idea from hiding the remote from this "yute":

Focus on about 1:10, althought the whole thing is pretty amazing.  Priceless.  Future DUmmie in the making.

I am leaning towards any DUmmy with user names with bunny, rabbit, or anything related to them.

I voted yes, but I want to add a caveat...I doubt they know it's over.

Put a fork in 'em. They're done.
No stamina in that that bunch of sprogs.

One of the deals about top DUmmiedom is that one hopes to keep the award a secret until it's announced, but given our open-ness here in the DUmpster, in which primitives are free to wantonly invade and read what decent and civilized people are saying about them, that's all but impossible.

I'd like for once to spring an award--any award--on a primitive who's not even aware he's up for it, but it ain't never gonna happen.

Yeah, what BSS said.  You can't completely discount a home-stretch race.

There are some 'closers' over there.

Rob (pedro) kicked it up today.

DOTY is such a happy and wondrous season.  :-)

Well, I have nothing but contempt for Amber and Doug, but I'm just sick about LocoNuts.

He could have been a real contender.

Doug is at the top of the list for me.

However maybe we should be allowed to use posts by some of the DUmmies that have come over here in the last 12 months to determine their DOTY status.

That certainly puts PhDD's and laelth in the running if you use that criteria.

There's no rule against doing that.

I'm sure that :jugs:  :yahoo: is going to reach one of the top ten spots as it is, and am so sure I've practically almost already written her award.
