Food stamp benefits going down before the holidays
Source: CNBC
Millions of American families could face a sparse holiday table when food stamps benefits get reduced in November, and that could be just the start of deeper cuts to the program to feed poor families.
The modern-day food stamp plan, now called the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, is scheduled to scale back benefits for all recipients on Nov. 1 because a recession-era boost in benefits is expiring.
The cut comes as lawmakers also are considering billions of dollars of reductions to the overall SNAP program, which has grown substantially in recent years amid the weak economy and high unemployment.
The program is now serving more than 23 million households, or nearly 48 million people, according to the most recent government data through June. The USDA says the average monthly benefit is about $275 per household.

$25 per month. The benefit that used to cover almost three weeks will now cover significantly less. I'll be speaking with my senators about this, there's absolutely no point in discussing it with my alleged rep in Congress.
How about GETTING A JOB, you SCRUNT?
Own it, assholes.

It's been proven over and over again when you shut off the government teat, people suddenly start finding jobs.

Remember when people had pride in themselves and would be embarrassed and shamed by having to take aid or charity?
DUmmies are proud to be in need and justify their petty greed.

Libs... some simple arithmetic predicts this problem. The more people Obama encourages to sign up for welfare the fewer people you have to pay the taxes that fund welfare. In short, the more people receiving the benefits the smaller the benefits get.

You have to wonder how many of those SNAP users were also on Obama's 2 year unemployment benefits plan.

My mom had to take Welfare. She hated it and would damn near die of embarrassment when she had to pay with Food Stamps. Eventually, she went to college (night school) and got the hell off the dole as soon as she could. But the damage was done -- she died way too young.

The primitives obviously don't believe in shared sacrifice.
People not on food stamps have had to cut corners, do without, the past five years.
Shared sacrifice. It's patriotic. We're all in this together. It's not fair that some must suffer, while others don't.
Too bad for the primitives.

".....ask not what your country can do for you, but rather ask what you can do for your country....."
Who said that, primitives?

Only the "bonus" is being allowed to expire. I'd say to let the "bonus" continue, but cut the SNAP rolls by the same percent of reduction.

That, and their cellular telephones, are the last things the primitives'll ever give up.
The primitives would sell their grandmothers and grandchildren into slavery before giving up the tithe they pay my fellow alum Skins.

19. Way to go Republicans!
No doubt Jesus is smiling on you right now!
Don't forget beer. Beer is smiling on us, too.

FIFY. Amazing how they depend on the government for basic necessities, but then spend what money they get on shit they don't need.

Time to play, "Who Is The Guilty Party?" game.
A couple of weeks ago, the EBT system in a number of states went down, including Louisiana. Who was responsible for what you see in the picture?

Low income people who work and have children can get snap too...it just gets reduced the more one makes.
That aside, I hardly doubt a 25$ reduction A MONTH is going to cover 'significantly less'. What a bunch of drama queens.

I was gonna say, switching to hamburger or chicken a couple times a month versus steak will knock it down $25 easy.

It's significant. That's six packs of smokes.

They said that those of us working for a living can just budget better in order to deal with higher health insurance premiums, if we can budget so can they.

Hey, they need that to "network", and to wait for calls from prospective employers about jobs they never applied for.

You can't cut $25 from your monthly food budget? You can't clip coupons and shop for items on sale? Hey DUmmies sometimes the items that are on sale also have a manufacturer's coupon you can print out online. We all know you have the internet. I'm sure your Senators don't give a shit about you not being able to get buy on $25 a month less. I know I could give a **** less.

I know of people that elect not to pay for health insurance for their children which is very affordable through our employer, complain that they can't afford to feed their kids, refuse to divorce their dead beat spouse so they can actually get some type of help when they already have someone else living with them, and then they show up with piercings and new tattoos.
****ed up priorities. ****ed up people. Then they look back and wonder why their life has been all ****ed up for the last 20 years.

What are they talking about a cut for? There had been a temporary increase in the SNAP program that's due to expire.
Just like the temporary decrease in the social security deduction that expired.
-
Yeh, I was trying to find something about the Social Security cuts coming that I heard a snippet of. Anyone know about that?

Exactly... same premise as when the Booosh tax cuts expired.

Those people are so addicted to other people's dollars, they refer to any extension of tax cuts as "the government losing money" or "it cost the government".
Please.

I think it's being discussed, but nothing passed in congress yet that I've heard. Will probably be part of a budget deal.

Dems are constantly yapping about Republicans cutting grannie's SS. Somehow SS (and all other govt. programs) keeps going up even with the rascally Repubs constantly cutting it.

I had a room mate for a VERY short period. She asked me one day on my way to work (she didn't) if I could pick her kids up some cereal. I said sure. She gave me paper money, food stamps. They didn't have cards back then. Anyway, here I was standing in line dressed in my work attire (high heels, business suit) and I pull out food stamps to pay for the groceries. I didn't even think about it but felt the hot glare from everyone. Holy Crap I was pissed that I was put in that predicament. This beyotch went on to steal my identity and get utilities in my name and run.

but what I heard and it was the WSJ was that Obama was the one going to try it like around January?

The stuff they are talking about was proposed by Simpson, Bowles. They want to raise the retirement age and possibly means test benefits and, of course, the Dems will try to raise the maximum taxable income for SS tax. This will be sold by the press as O'bummer being forced to make draconian cuts by the evil Republicans.

I don't understand how they can't raise the payroll taxes on SS benefits. If people want it and it has to cover what's being paid out, where else are they going to get the money?

It was sold as, and originally called "Old Age Insurance" The contributions were not "taxes" but premiums. The reason they set a maximum taxable income was because, otherwise, people would be contributing far more into it than they could ever hope to get out. They continue to try to sell it as that even though it has obviously turned into a massive welfare program. All they have to do is stop trying to BS us and they could tax all income and withhold benefits from folks who were smart enough to make adequate provisions for their retirement.
