Title: The things that pop into their heads while high
Post by: dandi on October 19, 2013, 03:52:38 PM
For some, it's alternate universes within an atom. For others, it's, "Why do men have nipples?"

For Taverner, it's the white denial of Forrest Gump:

"Forrest Gump" - I just realized there was a huge swipe of white denial in that movie

Take, for example, Forrest's run in with Elvis

In the movie he teaches Elvis how to swing his hips

He didn't learn that from a skinny white kid

He was a big fan of the blues, which had a lot of hip shaking, even though a song about it, "Shake Your Money Maker" by Elmore James didn't come out until the early 60s

This was completely removed from white acts of the day

1. Its supposed to be funny and ironic

We know Elvis didn't learn that from a white kid. Thats what makes the movie entertaining. Its not trying to rewrite history, but get a laugh.

Honestly, I'm more angry at how it portrayed late 70's shrimping culture! The outrage!

3. Well no Medal of Honor winner ever showed his ass to LBJ either, and Gump didn't cause

the Watergate Perpertrators to be caught by complaining about distracting lights.

I don't believe too much credence should be attributed to historical facts or allusions in regards to "Forrest Gump," it was an entertaining movie with some good music but that's all it was ever meant to be.

Thanks for the thread, Taverner.

13. Gump wouldn't have gotten anywhere without generous helpings of white privilege

If he wasn't white he would have ended up like Bubba, poor and dead.

Even Bubba's family was depicted as being dependent on a white savior to raise them up.

15. Yep

I mean don't get me wrong, I don't think it's a bad movie and I don't think it's intent was racist

But one of the most frustrating things about white privilege is that you're not supposed to know you have it

with dudes who were not Forrest. That slut, why wouldn't she be happy to settle down with the "nice guy" who wanted her, and instead did what she wanted to. The nerve of her

18. Gump had a shrimp company - let's boycott it.

No one buy Bubba Gump shrimp, for openers.

I also think that since Gump owned, or owns, Apple stock, it might be worthwhile to boycott Apple products.

I think it's critical, now that there's no actual racism, that we move on to the scourge of fictional racism. Let me
tell you, Mark Twain has been asking for it for a VERY long time.

Ah, the mantra of every DUmmy who has it pointed out to them just what an idiot they are - "You just don't get it."

The things they get their panties bunched up over. Maybe they need the ones that fruit of the loom has been running commercials on lately.

Taverner is genuinely stunned.  He thought that he was going to get nothing but pats on the back for his poignant post on the--always popular at democrat underground--topic of racism.

The nice thing about them declaring everything racist, they don't have to think critically.

If that brain-dead junkie dumbass thinks the movie is bad, let's wait another twenty years until he actually reads the book.

It was terrible... I never finished it.  A book has to be nearly illegible for me to not read the damn thing.

I thought the movie was good. Twenty years ago its special effects were pretty impressive.

I can't imagine that a book would have been anything but bad - the visual effects were the whole point.
