Title: Republicans Eating Boogers
Post by: FiddlingAnt on October 18, 2013, 02:45:13 PM
We´ve all seen toddlers gross us out by eating their boogers. Why do they do such a disgusting thing? Because it makes them feel good.

The recent attempt by Tea Party Republicans to defund Obamacare is the equivalent of booger eating. It made them feel good, but it was not pretty to look at and the results were bound to turn out bad, which they did. Instead of the news covering the incompetent roll out of Obamacare, the lead stories were about the Republicans shutting down the government.

Don´t get me wrong, I am closer aligned to the Tea Party Republicans than the Crony Capitalist Republicans who protect their big campaign fund donors, or the Compassionate Conservative Republicans who can´t pay for their pet projects with tax revenue but pay it with more debt.

Critics from the start pointed out it was politically impossible for the Tea Party to use a government shutdown to defund Obamacare. In interviews, even Senator Ted Cruz was unable to explain how his efforts could succeed with Senate Democrats and President Obama sticking to their poll-tested position of doing nothing. His shut down partner Senator Mike Lee acknowledged that anyone who wants to criticize them ¨for proceeding in a fight we weren´t certain we could win, then they´ve got a fair point.¨

If you are going to pick a fight, pick a fight you can win.

The Democrats may be terrible at doing math when it comes to matching government spending with tax revenue, but they are better than the Tea Party when it comes to counting votes at a national level.

Surveys show that America is 35 percent conservative, and 25 percent liberal, with the other 40 percent in the middle. It should be easier to elect conservative presidents. However, the Democrat presidential candidate has gotten more popular votes than the Republican candidate in five of the last six elections. That´s pretty good considering liberals are outnumbered three to one. For conservatives to win the presidency in 2016, we need to get more votes than the liberals. Booger eating is not going to help us get those votes.

Who's to say that the attempt was doomed from the start?

Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

The fact is, despite Cruz's noble undertaking, the MSM does a bang-up job of demagogueing (is that a word?) anything that doesn't fit its pretty little agenda, and this time, the establishment GOP elite also didn't find it exciting that the Tea Partiers didn't quite salute the flag and fall in lock-step with Boner and the rest of his cronies.

Personally, I was galvanized and inspired that SOMEBODY, ANYBODY actually sat up and said, STOP SPENDING OUR ****ING MONEY. Especially on disasters-in-the-making like Obamacare.

I don't much get galvanized and inspired by booger-eaters. And I don't equate what happened with booger-eating either.

The battle was fought and lost. Boner has no ****ing spine, though he did a half-assed job in at least listening to the Tea Partiers. In the end, the GOP elite once again rears back, collects its own pork and earmarks (though they're being careful NOT to call the pork that's laden into that bill "earmarks"), but once again I see how the GOP and the Dems both do NOT miss an opportunity to spend our money.

**** that.

Bitchslapped for the analogy. Homey don't do booger-eaters.

I have to agree with FiddlingAnt.
The system is what the system is.
There are 100 something members in congress that align with the tea party.
There are 430 something that don't, that ain't good odds

The tea party members are newbies for the most part on the national level and they don't know what they're doing.

They started with refunding Obamacare something that was never ever going to get through the Senate, and if it did anyone think Obama would sign it?
It was a stupid thing to do and the speaker should have known better.
And it went downhill from there.

IMHO they should have tried postponing the individual mandate for a year and remove the 80% subsidies for the congress.
That was remotely possible but now they have nothing and they look ridiculous.

The Tea Party agenda is pretty broad, different factions have different agendas but basically it's about lower taxes and smaller government.
I agree with them but right now they're a rooky team that doesn't know how to play the game and they're getting shut out.

Just my 2¢

Democrats wanted ObamaCoup so bad they violated the Constitution to pass it by having it declared a tax even though the bill passed originated in the senate.

Democrats wanted ObamaCoup so bad they fought to keep it all the way to the SCOTUS and reveled in it being upheld.

Democrats wanted ObamaCoup so bad they refused to vote on the 47 defunding efforts passed by the House.

Democrats wanted ObamaCoup so bad they were will willing to shutdown the government to keep it.

Day after day, time after time the Democrats prove how much this law is theirs and theirs alone. They keep proving they will go to any extreme to clutch desperately to their precious.

They want the entire nation to know: THIS IS THE LAW THE DEMOCRATS DEMAND!

And it is crumbling to dust between their fingers.

If nothing else the Tea Party reaffirmed before the nation's eyes that one party and one party alone is solely responsible for the cancelled policies, skyrocketing premiums and evaporating healthcare system.

We are going to hang this ****ing law like an albatross around their wretched necks.

I agree that's a good thing but 47 votes in the House made that point.
Continuing that out into the CR was a mistake.

On the day the Obamacare website previewed and the following 17 days the headline was "Republicans shutting down the government", not the "Obamacare fiasco".

FA & SLS, Thanks for bringing us the "establishment" Republican line.  Ted Cruz and company firmly established that "conservative" Republicans are against this law and that the political elites have exempted themselves from it.  The next step is for folks to see the devastating effect of this law on their family finances and actual medical care and remember who has been fighting it.

And right on cue it's FA's sockpuppet.

Despite your idiotic assertion that the TEAP Party is the new kid in town we aren't.

You'll fine long time 30-40 year supporters of the GOP in the TEA Party who finally had enough of the go along to get along BS the GOP kept feeding us.  The ones who watched the establishment tote the same line you're spewing now as they tried to take out Reagan...then rode his coat tails during two landslide victories.

The same French Repubs who claim to be Reagan conservatives...the ones that trash the TEAP Party today were the Ford and H.W. Bush supporters.

So don't come in here Sock and think that just because you say the same shit under a different screen name it will be any more important or clever.

If it were left up to establishment types like you there would NEVER be the "right fight" or the "right time" to stand up to the Dems.  It would only be yet another perfect time to bend over and grab our ankles.

Screw you and your anti-TEA Party BS...you're no better than the Libtards at DU.

I disagree.  Making a big deal out of "stopping" Obamacare wasn't a mistake or bad timing.  Being that almost 60% of Republicans in congress voted down this last CR and debt ceiling rise should tell you who the real Republican's are out there.  And we get to go through this whole game over again in a couple of months.  The disasters of Obamacare aren't going to go away.

The only losers I see in the last go around are the RINO Republicans and those that are afraid of the Democrat media machine.  When are they ever going to stop being the stupid party, quit holding hands with Democrats and stand up and fight?  They get rolled all the time by more politically smart politicians.

Republican's have no leadership and no strategy. It's sad, but it's a game.  This is the NFL and the sooner we hire some decent coaches and players the sooner we'll win.

Wow, what a nice friendly forum you have here.
You give an opinion and god forbid you don't agree with someone you get insulted.
I don't think Cruze, Lee, Bachman and many others have been in Washington for the last 40 years and those are the guys that controlled what happened.
I have to assume  you're happy with the results.

The way see it Republicans got nothing and came out looking foolish.
...
Now you obviously think I'm a second account of someone else here.
Ask you're administrator to check my IP address.
Report me, please, I assume you're not allowed multiple account here.

I wouldn't call postponing the individual mandate and having congress live under the same rules we're forced to live with as total surrender.
Total surrender would be getting nothing, and nothing  is what we got after 17 days.

I agree with lower taxes and smaller government.
I think Obamacare will be a disaster if it survives, and I hope it doesn't.
I think 17 trillion and counting is beyond belief.
But I think the smartest thing to do is something that will work.

The Tea party is like green energy, it may be the wave of the future but it isn't quite there yet.
Keep developing, and improving it.
Get stronger and stronger but until then you need to work in the real world.

Preferring 30 Tea Party Senators to 51 Republican Senators doesn't help you change policy.
I'm not a Rino I'm a realist.

I'm brand to to this forum and not aware of any ongoing conversations or heated exchanges regarding the Tea Party point of view.
I invite a civil conversation to tell me why I'm wrong.

"Lost" their nerve?

McCain and Graham were pre-emptively surrendering before we went into shutdown.

Please tell me (and I'm not shouting) who among the TP expected this to actually be the end of ObamaCoup? I mean seriously, seriously saying, "This is it! We got 'em now!"

Didn't everyone expect this to end the way it did?

Didn't we expect the first noises of capitulation to come from exactly the corner it did?

But we still picked the fight and we still fought it.

This is the Thermopylae before the Plataea, the Alamo before the San Jacinto, the ...OK, I ran out of historical war analogies -- but you get where I'm going with this.

Bingo and H5. No one expected any but capitulation from the RINOs. Everyone knew it was only a matter of time. I personally was elated and energized by how long it lasted.

and we forced the RINOs in the house to seek democrat votes to get this passed. That will look real good for the voters back home.

35 men on Lexington Green didn't expect to defeat the British Army with the first volley.

Cruz succeeded in smoking out milquetoasts and Quislings in the Republican ranks. If the conservative wing of the party strikes while the iron is hot, it may claim leadership of the party from the leftists and collectivists.

Again, I disagree.  The Tea Party isn't something new.  The TP members are not young activist kids.  They aren't even real activists. They're mature citizens that have put in their dues, paid their taxes, raised their kids and believe in the constitution, small government and fiscal responsibility.  They are also fed up with the same old bs coming out of Washington.

Of course the left was shocked and scared by the TP.  They still are. And since the TP has managed to primary several of the old RINO's they have also shaken up the status quo.

The establishment Rs are just that.  They go along to get along.  They live in the DC bubble of the good old boy's club of cocktail parties.  Our congressmen were not supposed to be career politicans, they've lost touch with their constituents.

I don't see where we lost anything.  This thing would have gone down to the wire like it always does, the Democrats and their media  would have demonized the Rs, just like they always do, and will do  again come Jan 17th when it starts all over.  What did happen was underscoring how bad Obamacare is, which Americans will all find out come Jan 1st.

I am noticing a trend in many of the replies. If you can´t argue facts, resort to name calling and ad hominems. That´s just more booger eating - you feel good posting your¨witty¨ remarks, but you totally ignore the argument and you don´t advance the Tea Party values.

I don´t want to see the Tea Party end up marginalized like the Libertarian Party and Constitution Party.  Tea Party candidates have actually won elections. The trick to continued success is to get more states and districts to elect more Tea Party candidates and for this you need more than 50% of the votes. You don´t attract more voters by ticking them off.

In politics its about winning, not feeling good about useless actions that damage future goals.

Many here say opposing viewpoints are welcome and that we don't walk in lock step like they do.

Which is it and why all the nastiness?

Opposing viewpoints are allowed, doesn't mean that the opposition has to be nice to each other.

Speaking of facts...figured out the difference between deficit and debt yet?

More ad hominem (sigh). The usage of the term you refer to from a prior post was adequately explained to anyone not limited to the narrowest of definitions.

What this last shutdown was, was round 1. What it did was smoke out conservative impostors.
What it affords is the ability to rehearse for another round in about 3 to 4 months.
When that day comes, rodeowebuma will be a lot more pliable than "Surrender and I will negotiate".

I am noticing a trend in many of the replies. If you can´t argue facts, resort to name calling and ad hominems. That´s just more booger eating - you feel good posting your¨witty¨ remarks, but you totally ignore the argument and you don´t advance the Tea Party values.

It's much simpler than that.

I don't take you seriously, I have no interest in your opinion, and I enjoy taunting you.

I won't speak for anyone else.

Opposing viewpoints are welcome here. When your opposing viewpoint stands in clear opposition to established fact however, the holder of the viewpoint has no right to expect others to give him a pass for the sake of "go along, get along".

This is a debating forum, not a :kumbaya: :grouphug: :gay: kind of place.

Disagreeing with someone is fine, but is using disgusting sexual descriptions to denigrate the member your disagreeing with really necessary?

Writing only that which is necessary would be very, very boring.

Thanks for the clarification. I am glad I am able to bring you so much joy.

Go Tea Party! Win one for the Gipper.

No that was a direct question.

We've had someone here before that kept incorrectly using the term ad hominem to avoid answering questions.

No it wasn't adequately explained if you go back and read the responses. You were wrong then and you're wrong now about the GOP.

You're just parroting the Rove/RNC/RINO talking point.

It's always "pick your fights wisely" or "this is the wrong issue".

The problem with that cowardly strategy is that there ends up NEVER being a good fight and NEVER the right issue.

And pretty soon if we keep up this run and hide strategy there won't be a GOP.

I need to thank txradioguy for revisiting a topic of a previous post. He is bothered that I refer to a $200 trillion deficit in projected future Social Security and Medicare revenue less projected expenses. It seems he would prefer that the term deficit only be used for the annual shortfall in general government revenue less expenses. It is also referred to as a fiscal gap, but rather than being caught up in the terminology, the more important issue is making this the most important political problem to solve. If you think 17 trillion is a scary number, we have a bigger problem that is six time larger that Washington chooses to ignore. This is the fight we need to take on and wijavascript:swapOptions();n.
