Question: is there truth to the "Park rangers going Gestapo to enforce shutdown" story?
That seems to be the latest rumor going around right-wing circles.

This story is tripping my bullshit alarm - the right-wingers of course, are screaming "TYRANNY!!!" because park rangers are telling people to get off of national parks, and rest stops, and so on. But there's always another side - maybe there's problems with vandalism because most of the rangers are furloughed, maybe it's an isolated incident.
I'm wondering if anyone's seen a definitive debunking so I can shove it in the face of one particular right-winger I'm having an argument with.

1. My bullshit meter
goes off on any article that would actually use the term Gestapo Tactics in a headline.
Add to that that both of the sources are full of wacko bullshit 99.5% of the time I think you're safe in assuming it's bullshit this time too.
Safely ensconced in the Democrat underground cocoon but wrong as hell.

You will always get some Wyatt Earp types in the ranks. I've dealt with good, bad and ugly ranger types. No reason to believe the NPS is immune to having rogue elements in its force.
You will always get some Lois Lerner types in the ranks too, with the Chicago man-child in charge.
One Dummy seems to get it--but then, you know he's gotta be a mole.

I live in Asheville. The Blue Ridge Parkway is open, but there's a private business on the highway that Park Rangers are blocking from being used. I think it's wrong.
Who ever is ordering this to happen, it looks petty. Worse, it makes the administration look petty. One can say that it's not fair to draw that conclusion, but the perception is that things have gone beyond what is reasonable, and I have to agree.
That would be President Stompy Foot.

I have stayed at that place on the Blue Ridge Parkway many times. It is leased from the government and run by private enterprise/individuals. It's just Obama being an asshole here at the peak of the fall colors in that area.....he said make it hurt and they're doing it.
Makes me want to slash the tires on AF#1.....while it's in the air.

The NPS should get a 90% haircut on their budget. I don't care if the order came from Obama to make Americans feel pain. They should have not obeyed his tyranny. It does make one consider that they would not have a problem causing bodily harm or murder of their fellow citizens if the order came from Obama.
COST MORE THAN DOING NOTHING
1. Closing open air monuments where the maintenance is paid by private funds (WWII Memorial). Guards on the job when not before.
2. Setting up and enforcing cones on a public highway.
3. Falsely imprisoning people in Yellow Stone Inn.
4. Sending para military thugs to kick volunteers out of a privately owned and operated monuments.
CUTTING REVENUE TO THE NPS:
1. Kicking out campers in the national land that are concessions to private companies like NACO, 1000 trails. Estimate of losses 200 million per week.
2. Shuttering privately run concessions like hotels, restaurants, and museums that have access by national parks. Estimate of loss 5-10 million per week.
To summarize, Obama's NPS spent extra labor that they did not before and cut off revenue streams all to make the productive American citizenry FELL THE PAIN!!!!! You don't think he would go out of his way to make sure you didn't get medical care if you don't think right?
