I just had eye surgery and need advice...
I'm supposed to lie on my stomach for ten days. Arghhh! Has anyone else here ever had to do that?

I'm a nurse so I know and understand the theory behind this difficult recovery method, but I'm wondering if any of you have had experience with this and know a way to make it more tolerable.

6. Uck, I've heard of that.

For treatment of a detached retina? I had that, but didn't have to go to that extreme, they fixed mine relatively easily.

Sorry you are going through that, sounds like a real ordeal.

Too bad they couldn't just knock you out with sedatives and wake you up in 10 days.

Best of luck, good vibes, and hope for a complete recovery.

Nutcase Dennis chimes in spreading good vibes, but his real intention is to just score some pills.

12. I had surgery to fix a detached retina last December.

Had to sleep sitting up for six weeks, but (according to my sister) the information packet they gave me at the surgeon's office contained information on some apparatus for people who had to keep their heads down the way you do. Since I didn't have to use one, my sister ditched the paper on it. You may want to ask your surgeon about it.

What's the output difference between a primitive forced to sit for six weeks, or a primitive who works for six weeks?

Nothing.

10. Are there still any iron lungs around?

Here is an example of primitive laziness sinking to a new low.  Too lazy to even breathe for yourself?  See around about an iron lung!

Ten days?  That's crazy.  24 hours, tops.  Maybe if you had a lens implant or something.

Yet another Dimocrat lying around with their ass in the air.

Is it recovering, or looking for sex?

That happened to my dad back in the 90's. He said it was the worst 6 weeks of his life. Never heard of the sleeping on the stomach deal for eye problems. Since they are dummies... I suspect some enthusiastic anal sex gone awry.

I've had four surgeries related to a detached retina (scleral buckle, membrane removal, two vitrectomies, and a cataract removal) and was never told to stay down for more than 24 hours.

I'm not sure of why he had to do it Chris, but he did. He had cataract surgery like 3 weeks before. He said he had lost a good portion of the sight in that eye that day, got scared and had someone at the job site call the eye doc. The eye doc told him to call an ambulance to his job site. Had to have emergency surgery. Was in the hospital for like 3 days.

Mom had to give him these eye drops every day the whole 6 weeks too. He was off work for 6 weeks and workers comp wouldn't pay for it because it was not a job related injury.

As an aside, once he healed up he went back to work, the first day back he was riding an open lift up to the 5th floor, which is where he was wiring that day, put his hand on top of the elevator to steady himself and the control screwed up, either that or he forgot to hit stop, anyway it didn't stop and hit the girder on top and broke 3 of his fingers.  He was off another 2 months for that. Poor guy couldn't win that year.

At least workers comp paid for that.

Wow, that's pretty drastic.  I was out of work for a week but the initial recovery was only 24 hours.  I was in the doctor's office the next day or the day after.  How long ago did this happen?

Back in the early 90's. Probably about 92 or 93. No later than 93 cause I picked him up at the hospital and drove him home in my old 83 honda which I got rid of the first part of the year in 94.

Ah, that explains it.  My incident was late 2007.  As advanced as modern medicine is, it still feels like being poked and stabbed by butchers at times.

I can sympathize with your father's second accident.  I've lost count of the number of times I've stepped in front of someone or some thing because I didn't see it and nearly caused an accident (not driving).  If someone thinks it's easy, spend the day with an eye closed and see how well you get along.

Yep. Lasers and such now. It's just downright amazing what they can do now, ain't it?  Shoot, they don't even cut you open most of the time now for surgery, they just make a little hole.

Too bad that will all go away when the libs finally get their single payer health insurance nirvanna.  Hope I am dead by then.

A man that worked for my dad had cataract surgery back in the 50's. He had to stay in bed with sand bags on each side of his head to keep it from moving for 2 weeks. Things have really improved since then.

Well USA I was talking about sleeping sitting up for 6 weeks. I had never heard of the stomach thing though. Good thing that didn't happen to dad... the man had a belly back then!!!  He would have looked like a beached whale.

Me? I sleep on my belly. Never have been able to sleep on my back... or in a chair for that matter... unless it was first period back in jr high or HS.   :-)

The DUmmy could make some money renting his ass out as a bicycle rack, but that would mess up his disability scam.

I often have to sleep in a chair. I rotate between three beds, expensive beds, a recliner and a chair. My body is all jacked up and it's hard to get comfortable. When I travel I need to make sure the motel room has a chair and stool for my feet or a recliner in case I can't sleep in the bed.
