What's up with panhandlers?

I go to the McDonalds in Woodland Hills and on the way out I stop to put something in the garbage and there are two teenagers sitting at a booth. They say something to the effect of "Hey, boss, can I get some money so my brother and I can eat?" They had the Abercrombie and Fitch look and were sporting smartphones. I presume they were skipping school. Any way I give them my $1.40 in change. Then one of them says "How about a dollar for my brother?" . I said "C'mon..." They said "Thank you, boss."

SMH

Then this miserable bitch pipes up:

37. On my way from school today i saw this really skinny old man

Barelly walking on the sidewalk. He picked up a half empty bottle of soda he found on the street and was ready to drink it. I grabbed a $10 bill I had in my wallet and gave it to him just in time, as the stop light turned green.
I hope he was able to buy a lil bit of food with that money today.

Its heartbreaking.

but I recall a stoned outing when I was at prep school many moons ago when a group of us panhandled. included in the group was a member of the busch family and, oh never mind. shameful to think about.

I live in Orlando. Thousands of homeless people are STARVING on daily basis and are barely carrying on in downtown Orlando!! I used to work in downtown, watched them every morning barely dragging their feet on!! And NO, majority weren't drunks or drug addicts!! just people losing their jobs who had no family or friends to get help from!! Just because some of you have safety or a safety net, it doesn't mean everyone else does!!

STOP ****ING JUDGING!! Don't want to help, no one is forcing you to. But don't ****ing deem someone a drunk or drug addict when theyre asking you for food money!!! its ****ing sick!!

BTW, this post was addressed to everyone , not the OP in particular.

Sorry lunaticangel but I bet almost 100% of inner city panhandlers are drug/alcohol abusers.
Truth always hurts a liberal.

Saw this thread earlier. The majority of the posts can be paraphrased as "I thought tax revenues went to pay others to keep these icky vermin away from me."

Yeah, some compassion they have.  :whatever:

.

I thought the homeless disappeared whenever dims were "in charge".

All the time in the news during Reagan, Bush, and Bush.

Not a peep during Carter, Klintoon, and Barry.

110. so do I

but Im not homeless.

You know how many politicians and fake preachers turn their backs on ALL homeless, and any reasonable solutions, because they say
some of them "just dont want help" and they need to address their substance abuse problems?

Despite the better results coming from housing first approaches?
Despite the cost savings coming from housing first approaches?
Not to mention the weasels that mask their crooked non-measures as
"housing first" when its just federal funds first and foremost, there are some dirty schemes being
played out. Anything for money. Except solving the problem that brings it in.

Your clueless.  I've seen these people everyday for years downtown.  You can put them into two categories.  #1 Drug addicts #2 Crazy and a lot of them are both.  You can't put them in shelters or housing.  You can't even keep them in the hospital or jail more than a couple of days and then they are back out on the street.  They are the bane of business owners and the police.

Several years ago my dad worked as a construction supervisor on a state low income project.  About two months after the "new" units were occupied he was called back to resolve construction problems.  The first unit he went in with the inspector was a filthy mess with a lot of damage.  The inspector directed him to the bathroom where she huffily pointed out that the sink was hanging by the water lines.  Dad picked up the sink, clipped it back to the wall mounts and (at 6' 1" 220 lbs.) sat down on it.

Housing first my ass.

All schools are now "prep schools".

They "prep" our children to be good little government minions.

Only trust fund babies that can afford to go to places like Andover, Phillips, Poly, Trinity and a few others.

That would be Valerie Jarrett and other assorted friends of King Barky's.

Dorkangel, there are not thousands of people starving and keeling over on the streets of Orlando, FL.

Among the class of people who have attended prep schools for generations, they will always be called prep schools. It's probably a little more prevalent inthe East Coast cesspool.

We have some superb private academies here in red state hell, but rarely refer to them as prep schools. Their quality of education and their price are easily on a par with Andover and Phillips Exeter.
Eastern prep school students are more likely to take room and board on campus.

What ever happened to all those FEMA trailers that were used after Katrina?  There were about 200k of them.

Our ports have thousands of empty truck trailers just sitting there rotting.  Too bad counties can't set up their own homeless areas and get them off the streets.

Come on!!

You think an obamaite is ever going to leave a government trailer?

Only after he trashes it so badly he gets a new government trailer.

I'm sure New Orleans is just like WV: "success" means getting on SSI and a government trailer.

There were 20,000+ new camper trailers and a maybe a thousand used house trailers sitting in 2 large parking areas. They had been deemed "hazardous to your health" because of formaldehyde fumes and ordered sold by the government. They were all sold as one lot, meaning one buyer gets them all. Catch was you had to get them off the property in 30 days or face a huge fine. If I remember correctly they were all in the $10,000 to $20,000 range and sold for about $600 each......and they sat on the lot for awhile with no problem from the government.....it was more than likely one of those deals where someone and a politician made a mint off the taxpayers.

You must really live in a cesspool, "boner"! Or are ya just lyin' as usual?

Where I live, not a single person is denied help!

Another lefty emergency provided by those people who are the smartest in the room in order to get people out of manufactured homes in Tornado Alley back in the 90's. The idea was, because they use particle board, are somewhat airtight for heating and cooling efficiency, the fumes from the glue manufacturing it, accumulated. Largely because they knew you weren't smart enough to open the doors and windows for weeks at a time, thus letting your air quality go to hell!

So much for affordable housing. They forced manufacturers to go to a water based glue which is not nearly as strong as solvent based. Results: If a Tornado comes within a coupla hundred yards, your house goes bye bye!
