U.S. Health Exchange’s Stumbles Continue for Second Week
By Alex Nussbaum, Drew Armstrong and Shannon Pettypiece - Oct 7, 2013
Consumers couldn’t access parts of the U.S. government’s online health-insurance exchange today, after a weekend of technical upgrades failed to eliminate delays in the system at the heart of the Affordable Care Act.
The federal website, meant to serve people in 36 states, was still delivering error messages to users trying to create accounts. While most of the 14 states running their own health exchanges, including California, ran better, New York’s website had problems registering some consumers.
The exchanges debuted Oct. 1 and are supposed to help millions of uninsured Americans buy subsidized coverage under the Affordable Care Act. The federal site has been hamstrung by long wait times and crashes, with President Barack Obama blaming a surge of interest that exceeded expectations. Amid the delays, the administration said it was starting to improve the system.
“The work done to increase access to healthcare.gov in light of the overwhelming demand is beginning to show results,†Joanne Peters, a spokeswoman for the U.S. Health and Human Services Department, said in an e-mail. “Call center wait times are seconds, not minutes, and people have been enrolling over the phone 24/7.â€

2. I'm hard pressed to except ANY excuses for this cluster**** when they had years to roll this thing
out with perfection.
Back in the day, when I had to hire software vendors to implement a new system, I would have fired every *******ed one of them that worked on the project and sued their asses off for any 'services' already paid for.

3. I agree with you. There was enough time. The heads of managers that were responsible for
crafting the sign-up system and fault testing it should be fired outright or demoted. The ACA is good, not getting it to people who need it without glitches is unacceptable.

4. Maybe it's one of those H-1B or whatever thingees where it would have been better to hire
all American techs because of their knowledge and understanding of US culture.
It was them foreigners!

5. The right wingers will just point to this as proof government can't run big initiatives.
Hopefully, things will work soon, but this really ain't acceptable.

Just imagine the single payer you want and a hospital ER can`t touch you as you code in front of them for fear the gov will deny them payments for non compliance to regulations determining who is eligible for care.

Well they did farm it out to a Canadian company (CGI) who I'm sure farmed it out to some number of subcontractors who probably brought in the lowest paid people they could find to develop it. What could go wrong?

Well Damn Hoyt, after all this time you finally get something right. Why would I trust someone to run something of this magnitude, who can't even get people signed up for it?
