Our new huge insurance deductable, not good.

Last edited Mon Oct 7, 2013, 05:16 PM USA/ET - Edit history (1)

We keep our employer based insurance and our premiums are about the same, BUT...

Our family deductible goes from $900 a year to $3000!!

AND our copay goes from 20% to 30%!

I am not sure how we can afford this without rationing some of the medical care we need. We really don't have the extra money this will cost now.

We do not get a subsidy (that is for exchanges only) and our tax deductions shrink because of the new 10% threshold. (And in our bracket we usually take the standard deduction anyway)

I really wanted single payer but accepted Obamacare as the best they could do.

Now it looks like I can't afford the healthcare I need because of changes brought about by it.

Don't know what to think.

2. BUT you have a maximum out of pocket...

and no pre-existing...AND no deductible no co-pay on diagnostics....AND your health insurance company cannot spend more than 20% on anything other than Healthcare for its members....should I go on?

Why would no pre-existing condition exclusions help him if he was previously covered?

You are now getting more bang for your buck....do you not understand that? You will need Healthcare....have you priced it lately? You cannot be pre-existed out...AND your insurance company now has to pay out 80% towards actual health not overhead...Do you need diagnostic tests? Cause NOW you wont have to pay for those out of your pocket! You are getting MORE healthcare not less....

Pay 2-3K mmore a year for 500 bucks worth of diagnostics that are now 'free'. What idiots...really what idiots.

Let's be totally honest here, someone who has done all the right things is essentially now paying for premium on someone who didn't. Share the misery is right--you can do everything right and you still are going to carry on someone else's bad choices like they were your own. Such utter bullshit.

Yep. I can't wait.

Health care bills? It won't take that, just seeing the new costs for the insurance is bad enough in most cases. Then there is going to be the fun of finding a doctor that will take your insurance.

I never bothered to read his profile until now. This guy basically said the constitution is not important so it's ok if the government doesn't follow it. In his profile he says he upholds the constitution. What a maroon.

This was the exact same argument conservatives used with the whole cACA Obama Care concept.

What do we want? Everything
What will we pay? Nothing

OK, you will get to keep your plan and your premiums will go down by 3000% and your employer will give you a big fat raise.

Obama, while I hate him with white hot searing heat, you got to give him the fact that he can lie like nobody's business.

It seems to me only the one percent will get all the healthcare they want...and they get this from a democrat socialist bill.

The high rates/deductibles are shutting the poor and the middle class out of the system.

perhaps that is the design? Kill off the riffraff and replace them with illegal aliens who will accept less?

I think part of the plan is to kill off the middle class, period.

The problem with a middle class is it gives people in the lower class hope. Obama requires an Us vs Them mentality to keep the masses busy fighting each other instead of paying attention to what his administration is doing.

117. As a bystander - you should be more calm in this situation. You aren't coming off very well.

Try more listening... if you want to make a point, use the Socratic method - ask questions to get where you want (or you may learn something.)

The poster is paying MORE and s/he can't afford it. That's the bottom line here. With changes this big, some people will be hurt. It's unavoidable.

She certainly isn't coming off very well.  "WHAT ABOUT THIS DO YOU NOT UNDERSTAND???"

I had some OFA drone post at me "It will be very affordable Karin.  And it will be a huge success!!!!"

I felt like kicking some ass.

158. I'm not sure what you think I'm implying.

All policies must now be compliant with the ACA regulations on costs and expenditures.

Listen, I'm a huge fan of the ACA, but this decision not to extend the affordability metric to families has me greatly troubled. It was clearly identified as a barrier to families getting health care, as they have been exempted from the personal mandate. I ask, why exempt these families rather than allowing them to participate in the exchanges? I think that's a fair question to ask. We're literally talking about millions of kids being intentionally left without access to health insurance. Families who do decide to continue coverage are going to be greatly stretched.

I worry that this could become a significant issue in future elections (i.e. "proof" that Democrats "don't really care" about middle class families).

You got that right.

There is so much squabbling on that thread about what's in the law, what's not, back and forth, arguing, contradicting.  It's a cluster, no doubt about it.

... gone thru all the 'profile setup' bs, got to the 'success!' screen, got the validation email, clicked on the hyperlink and been told all three times that A USER PROFILE WITH THAT INFORMATION DOES NOT EXIST.

Yet when I try to create a 'new' profile using that same email address, I get an error that says 'A PROFILE WITH THAT EMAIL ADDRESS ALREADY EXISTS'.

And when I click on the 'forgot username' or 'forgot password' links, it tells me it's sending me an email to reset, but I never receive it.

Honestly, if it's this ****ing difficult just to set up, do they really think people are going to have any kind of confidence in the system actually working?

Really?  Tell that to the hospital hounding us for my husband's $1,500 MRI on his shoulder (our copay).  You see, we're among the privileged citizens who got a taste of the ACA effects on private insurance 4 years ago.

Get used to it.  If you have kids, expect to feel intense pangs of guilt every time you tell them "Le's just wait a few days and see if this isn't allergies."  or even better, if they play sports:  "Let's see if we can't get the swelling down ourselves.  I'm sure it isn't broken."  I'm a big fan of the TV show "The Middle", and the Mom said it best on last week's episode, when she found out her kid wasn't drinking anything all day because he was afraid to go in the middle school bathroom:  "If you don't drink, your kidneys will shut down, and we can't afford that!"  My sentiments exactly.  Oh, and the husband's shoulder is still immobile, because after I got the MRI bill, I wouldn't let him seek further treatment.  I told him to suck it up.  He really misses his occasional golf.

And for those DUmmies who trot out "the common good" trope, that it helps the greatest number of people while hurting just a handful, I read this noon that the CBO estimates that only about 2% will receive subsidy help in 2014, and by 2016, the maximum would be around 6%.  That's the CBO, DUmmies, not National Review.

I find it comical that the DUmmies have been agonizing for years now on whether it was "acceptable" to call it "Obamacare".  Never linked a thread, but there were some amusing ridiculous discussions about that.  Some wanted to call it MR. Obamacare, or just the ACA.  Freaking goofballs. :mental:

Roger that. The discussion, as I recall, surrounded the proper honorific for the Kenyan Keystone Kop. I think they settled on "His Royal Majesty, The Benevolent Honorable Rev. Sir Dr. President Barack Hussein Obama, LLC, Ed.D., Ph.D., M.D., FACS, CFA, DDS, Esq., Inc." You had to say that while standing, with your right hand over your heart, facing Berkeley, while forcing a tear to form.

Anyone else remember it that way?

I was listening to the Issa hearing with the IRS today on Cspan.  One of the questions was regarding the employer fines.  There is an understanding that if an employer provided insurance is missing any of the required preventative coverage, the employer can be fined $100 per person per day that's affected by it.

That would work out to $36,500 per year.  Apparently one of the congressmen has been trying to get an answer to that from HHS, and no one seems to be able to answer his question.
