LAKEWOOD, Wash. - A Joint Base Lewis-McChord soldier was stabbed to death in a parking lot at the 12500 block of Pacific Highway Southwest around 2:30 a.m., officials say.

20-year-old Tevin Geike was walking with two other white soldiers along Pacific Highway SW when a group of black men drove by and shouted a racial comment toward the soldiers, the Lakewood Police Department said.

"One of the soldiers yelled back something about the suspects treating combat soldiers with disrespect," Lt. Chris Lawler said.

Sickening! Killing an active duty soldier who served America should be a federal offense punishable by death.  :argh:

Well since we now have hate crimes added to the police blotter, I can not find another better that that.

Suspects Won't Be Charged With Hatecrime In Racially-Motivated Murder Of Seattle Soldier

This morning, three suspects were arrested in the case, but shockingly, the police are ruling out race as a motivation, and even more surprising, the five suspects are active military members.

There must be a good reason that the police are denying race as a motivation in the murder, otherwise they’re taking the word from perpetrators of a murder rather than those attacked. https://twitter.com/KeithKOMO4/status/387253721492504577 Do the police believe it was another kind of altercation, and the two friends of Geike made up the story about the racial comments? If so, what other reason did they have to shout at the men walking in the street?

Lakewood police will release more details at a press conference at noon.

They should be tried by military justice, not civilian justice. They deserve to be executed.

This pisses me off. The first news account had witnesses hearing them saying racially charged stuff at the victim.  Why are white people not given the same justice that black people get? Why do they not get a hate crime charge?

From what I heard, three of the five in the car were also soldiers, including the actual stabber. :argh: :censored:  :hammer:

They will be tried under the UCMJ, AFTER they are tried by civilian authorities. They can be convicted and sentenced separately for both without violating double jeopardy, since violation of UCMJ is actually a separate federal offense, as opposed to the state offense of murder.

Exactly, doc.  The great thing about it is that the ones most directly involved will be sitting in stir for a year before the case even comes up for arraignment under the civilian system, depending on whether they can make bail (Which is prohibitively high in most death cases for the principal actors), and the much-shorter clock on the military trial won't start to run until the military gets them back and formally charges them.
