Troops Forage for Food While Golfers Play On in Shutdown
http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2013-10-03/troops-forage-for-food-while-golfers-play-on-in-shutdown.html
Grocery stores on Army bases in the U.S. are closed. The golf course at Andrews Air Force base is open.
All 128 employees of the Saint Lawrence Seaway Development Corp. are working, while 3,000 safety inspectors employed by the Federal Aviation Administration are off the job.
The Food and Drug Administration is reviewing new pharmaceuticals. The National Institutes of Health is turning away new patients for clinical trials.
Grocery stores on military bases are closed, while the golf course is open. What an outrage! :argh:

Founding Fathers' Tavern Closed by Government Shutdown
http://www.nbcphiladelphia.com/news/local/Famous-City-Tavern-Closed-by-Government-Shutdown-226198441.html
An iconic Philadelphia restaurant has been forced to close its doors and turn away booked parties because of the government shutdown.
City Tavern at 3rd and Walnut Streets in the Old City section of the city has been told it must close until the U.S. Congress passes a spending bill.
The restaurant, which opened for the first time in 1773 and was frequented by the nation's founding fathers, sits inside Independence National Historical Park and the building is owned by the U.S. National Parks Service.
Even a tavern that dates back to 1773 has to close because it sits inside Independence National Historical Park. It did not close in the last shutdown.
Restaurant public relations director Molly Yun said they were notified there was a possibility a closure might happen, but they were allowed to remain open during the last government shutdown 17 years ago.

Monuments and memorials remained open during previous shutdown
http://dailycaller.com/2013/10/02/monuments-and-memorials-remained-open-during-previous-shutdown/
Although President Obama claims that he can’t avoid shutting down public sites and monuments, war memorials were in fact kept open during the 1995/1996 government shutdowns. The administration’s decision to barricade the Lincoln Memorial marks the first time in its history the memorial has been totally off limits to visitors during a shutdown.
The administration has also balked at efforts by non-governmental groups to maintain access to public sites.
But during the Clinton-era shutdown, World War II veterans kept the Pearl Harbor memorial open.
Memorials and monuments were open in the last shut down.

Barrycades: Feds Try to Shut Down Privately Owned Mount Vernon
http://www.infowars.com/barrycades-government-tries-to-shut-down-privately-owned-mount-vernon/
The National Park Service erected barricades to shut down parking lots surrounding Mount Vernon despite the fact that the tourist destination is privately owned, another example of how the feds are deliberately worsening the government shut down.
Mount Vernon is the former plantation of George Washington and is owned by the Mount Vernon Ladies’ Association, which doesn’t receive any government funding. The attraction’s official website reads, “NO SHUTDOWN HERE – The Federal government may be shut down, but Washington’s home remains open. Mount Vernon has remained a private non-profit for more than 150 years.â€
However, a dispute began when the National Park Service began putting up barricades to block off the facility’s car park, blockading the entrance as well as a spot where tour buses turn around.
I know this is from Alex Jones's website, but even private places like Mt. Vernon are closed.

Gov’t shutdown spreads to beaches of Normandy
http://nypost.com/2013/10/02/govt-shutdown-spreads-to-beaches-of-normandy/
PARIS — Tourists travelling to Omaha Beach to pay their respects to the 9,387 military dead at the Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial will find it closed, a victim of the U.S. government’s partial shutdown.
How can Normandy be closed during the shutdown and that is on another continent. :???: :wtf2:

Scott Walker told the state DNR keep the National Parks within WI borders open.
The park service ordered state officials to close the northern unit of the Kettle Moraine, Devil's Lake, and Interstate state parks and the state-owned portion of the Horicon Marsh, but state authorities rebuffed the request because the lion's share of the funding came from state, not federal coffers.

Obama is at this very moment out in the woods shooting golfs to feed the troops.
-
It's not as big of a deal that the Comissaries in the U.S. are closed...you'll find more troops at Super Wal Mart on any give day than shopping on post.
However if that were to happen over here in Germany and we had to convert our $$$$ to Euro and shop on the economy we'd be in trouble.
-
So childish. What is it about Obama that he thinks this is a winning strategy? And why monuments? He doesn't like people paying homage to anything or anyone but him?
-
What is it about Obama that he thinks this is a winning strategy?
Because the MSM is in his back pocket they ahve his back and they will make sure that the blame is reported as being entirely on the Republicans...facts be dammed.
As for the memorials...IMO he believes that the people visiting those memorials are more likely to be Cruz...Lee and Palin supporters than people who voted for them...so he's going to make them suffer for not supporting him.

Troops Forage for Food While Golfers Play On in Shutdown
http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2013-10-03/troops-forage-for-food-while-golfers-play-on-in-shutdown.html
Grocery stores on military bases are closed, while the golf course is open. What an outrage! :argh:
Golf courses and other outdoor rec activities on bases are not run on appropriated funds, i.e. tax money, they are all operated on budgets derived from their own user fees. The golf course is the primary moneymaker on most of them, which sustains activities like the day care centers for Soldiers with kids. It's a sensationalist headline designed to stir the emotions of the uninformed, probably written by someone who didn't bother to check the facts or lacks the ethics to mention them if he did check.

That might make sense, but the NPS is also closing other place that are self funded with no government funds. Obama is picking and choosing.

Exclusive Gyms For Members Of Congress Deemed ‘Essential,’ Remain Open During Shutdown
http://thinkprogress.org/politics/2013/10/08/2748461/members-only-congressional-gyms-deemed-essential-remain-open-during-shutdown/
Head Start programs have been shuttered, small businesses can’t get loans and hundreds of thousands of federal government employees are furloughed. But the exclusive gyms available only to members of Congress have remained open throughout the shutdown.
A House aide confirmed to ThinkProgress that the House member’s gym is open. The House gym features a swimming pool, basketball courts, paddleball courts, a sauna, a steam room and flat screen TVs. While towel service is unavailable, taxpayers remain on the hook for cleaning and maintenance, which has been performed daily throughout the shutdown. There are also costs associated with the power required to heat the pools and keep the lights on.
According to the aide, the decision to keep the gym open — even while other critical government services were shelved — came directly from Speaker Boehner’s office. Meanwhile, the staff gym available to Congressional staff has been closed.
Memorials and national parks are closed, yet Congressional gyms are open. Isn't that on federal property? No?

How can Normandy be closed during the shutdown and that is on another continent. :???: :wtf2:
the American Battle Monuments Commission runs the Normandy cemetery, along with 23 others across the globe. A guy I served with in Berlin is on staff at the Rhone (southern France) cemetery, and he's been furloughed.
Not a happy camper, and most definitely not a Barry fan.
