Anyone else working for a company that is changing employment status?

Last edited Sun Sep 29, 2013, 03:43 PM USA/ET - Edit history (1)

I just received a letter last week from our corporate office stating that, due to ACA, they will be reevaluating employment status for their employees and that many will be downgraded, especially those who work in schools. In other words, they are taking many of us who were full time and downgrading us to part time, in order to save on benefits.

The insurance isn't a problem since I'll probably qualify for any assistance with the open marketplace. What pisses me off is that I used to have vacation time and sick time, along with life insurance, stock options and a 401K as a full time employee but that will all be gone.

This is bullshit and they know it.

Now, let me think, what's the best response to this one...

Oh yes -  :ownit:

6. Same thing here. 8000+ employees.

About 70-80% of our workforce has been knocked down to part-time, and all part-timers just had our insurance obliterated completely. The letter from the company insists that we just go on the government coverage, and gave us tips on where to go to find a good 401k program.

Never mind that maybe 3/4ths of our workforce is over 50, or that the vast majority of them rely on the insurance to live. Unfortunately, most of us saw this coming when the ACA was still being debated.

I just witnessed this first hand on Friday at work while we were having our equipment calibrated.  A company called XXXX Calibration services (external organization that performs calibration on some of our equipment) included a letter in the paychecks they received on Friday, the letter was informing them as of Jan 1 they will not be providing any health insurance benefits.

I was standing right there when two of the XXXXX employees opened the letter and after reading them one actually had to excuse himself to go outside, his eyes were clearly welling up.  Listen up NSA.  I HATE OBAMA and his Deathcare.

Exactly. Considering the margins and methods by which this albatross was passed, the suffering of the many has been caused for the self aggrandizement of the few.  Pelosi, Reid, and, Obama are names which will justly deserve to live in infamy.

I love the smell of dummie desperation in the morning.  Won't matter though... at the end of the day they are dummies and they will vote for their masters once again in the next election.

In our local liberal daily rag, there are numerous articles about how obumbles care is soooooo greeeeaaaat!!! That tells me right there that this is an abortion in the making.

The bad thing is most dem voters do not pay anything for their healthcare so they don't care. The ones the GOP need to reach is the 20 somethings that are, or want to be, employed. If the GOP would do that, they could get those voters. Unfortunately I don't think it will matter in the end. Way too many welfare folks now.

So right, yet the primitive brotherhood will find some way to blame it on the Republicans.

I'm amazed that our supposed "intellectual superiors" (their words, not mine) cannot grasp the "law of consequences", intended or otherwise.

Their shock and surprise is almost comical, but is tempered by the fact that non-obamatards are equally effected by this bad bit of legislation.

I'm surprised how many people still believe Obamacare is a good thing and buy into what little good the media says about it.

I had a coworker today tell me he is worried that Obamacare might be delayed. We have great insurance and he is covered through the VA. The tight wad is trying to get out of paying for coverage on himself just so he can insurance on his wife through our employer. What he pays is still about half of what it would cost her for less coverage through her employer. I tried telling him that the state exchanges are full of 70/30 plans and high deductibles but he told me he heard on the news that the deductibles have to be affordable!

He told me he was thinking about buying today's Las Vegas Review Journal due to the fact it had an article about Obamacare in it!  :rotf:

+1, also what Wasp said.

They can't possibly suffer as much from this as they deserve, since not even Obamacare involves a protracted death by intentional torture (Just negligent death, and not necessarily a protracted one, either), but every tearful tantrum of a DUmmy is a tiny payment toward what they owe, and therefore a good and cheerful thing.

Every time I changed channels yesterday, some news person was saying something along the lines of, "When it comes to Obamacare, If you have Medicare, Medicaid or insurance come Tuesday you don't have to do anything."....and they were at it again this morning. Getting to where a fellow can't even channel surf without MSM shoving Obama in your face.

If they think losing hours and company insurance is bad, wait until they try to get an appointment at one of Dr. Obama's clinics.

The interesting thing about all this is the hype I'm hearing on left-wing radio and tv about Obummercare.  They talk about the lower pricing, but say nothing about the shrinking to almost nonexistent care networks, or the extremely high deductibles for these plans.

So, bottom line, care will be restricted and much more expensive even with the "lower" premiums.  I say let them implement this POS and the folks will soon figure out just how horrendous it actually is.  All the lemmings who said it was great will be clamoring to repeal it within a few months.

I've tried reading about the exchanges and it is confusing.  According to my state's website, they explain the four plans' "out of pocket" expense as a co-pay.  Bronze has a 40% co-pay, silver 30%, gold 20% and platinum 10%.  The lower the co pay is, the more it costs. Supposedly your out of pocket costs don't apply once you reach a maximum amount according to age, income. But didn't Obama just postpone or remove the caps on out of pocket expenses?

One point that the media and the evil democrat party (BIRM) never mentioned was that 85% of Americans were satisfied or happy with their health care. When Obama's cACA HellCare fully kicks in that number will be around 5%.  A complete inversion. The layoffs, part time hours, the new taxes, and the long wait times for limited treatment options will be even more hated.

The only way to make the people have fair outcomes is to make everyone equally miserable. That is just a fact Jack.

The cheerleaders and paid shills are all out in force on the political message boards today.  They NEVER mention the co-pays and deductibles.  If you mention it in your reply, they either don't answer, or come back with "you get a subsidy, retard."   You may or may not get a little help, of course, it's impossible to know.  They always make it sound free and on-demand.  If I ask about the family glitch, they either don't answer or blame it on republicans not fixing it.

A lot of people are going to be in for a very rude surprise.

I gotta go read that link that Chris left up there.

^^ Edit:  Wow.

And another thing:  That "less than the cost of your cellphone bill" bullshit enfuriates me.  You're on the hook for $10,000 before insurance kicks in?  Who the hell has that kind of money in the real world?

What if the family interested in coverage does not have a computer? There is a phone number,  but the phone numbers are online! Greta was drilling some guy on her show Monday night the same question, he said the best way was the internet but you should be able to find someone in real life to point you in the right direction. (ie: church, social program, etc) He kept saying ".gov".

There is one problem in Nevada that is being repeated over in over in the media. The state exchange web page is only available in English.  :rotf: The state is having to have the entire information published in Spanish, not translated but started from scratch, so there are not any translation issues. I wonder how much that is costing?

The irony in this is that putting this online when many lower income folks may not have access is not discriminatory but asking for someone to provide an id to vote is. Just laughable and if the low information types would unstick their heads out of their collective asses they might actually start having a little ahah moment themselves.

The cap (as I understand it) applies to the total paid out by the insurance company.  So, a company can longer say we've paid out 500,000 - 1,000,000 dollars so good bye coverage.

Why pay for insurance? Pay the fine and if you get sick sign up for coverage. Pre-existing is now covered. People are going to wait until they get sick to buy insurance and that is going to drive up the cost even quicker.

Make sure you have no tax refund coming back.  This is what happens when a law is shoved down Americans' throats when they don't want it.  They get inventive and figure out ways to get around it.  It has ever been thus, starting with the original Tea party.  Look at prohibition.   I read an article in WS about certain ways that people will learn to cheat, if they just talk to people in similar circumstances.

The fines do increase each year. Most won't care if the fine is cheaper then buying insurance they feel they do not need. If people wait until they are sick to sign up for coverage then it will make premiums suffer for the rest of us. It's like not buying car insurance until after you are in a wreck.

Did anyone see the blurb on Drudge of the guy who signed up, then tried to back out--and was threatened with all sorts of fines and even an IRS tax lien on his house?  Yeah, it was from Infowars, but they showed a Facebook page that had the whole story.

Being from Infowars, I'd tend to take it with a rock-salt-sized grain.  One never knows, though.

ETA:  The link, if anyone cares to look at it.
