First, we get a flesh-eating bacteria. Then, we get a flesh-eating drug. How soon before Taverner starts to use this? (No, brain-eating drugs don't count.)
First cases of flesh-eating drug Krokodil surface in US

Krokodil, a flesh-eating drug which first surfaced in Russia more than a decade ago, has reportedly been found in the United States.
Similar to morphine or heroin, krokodil is made by mixing codeine with substances like gasoline, paint thinner, oil or alcohol. That mixture is then injected into a vein, potentially causing an addict's skin to turn greenish, scaly and eventually rot away.
Dr. Frank LoVecchio, co-medical director at Banner Good Samaritan Poison and Drug Information Center in Arizona, told CBS5 that the first two cases of people using the drug have been reported in the state. He declined to comment on the patients' conditions.
"As far as I know, these are the first cases in the United States that are reported," LoVecchio said, adding that the cases are believed to be linked. "So we're extremely frightened."
Users of krokodil — or desomorphine — had previously only been found in large numbers in Russia, where 65 million doses of the opiate were seized during the first three months of 2011, Russia's Federal Drug Control Service told Time.
It's one thing to be infected by something that eats your flesh, without actually meaning to have that happen. It's totally another thing to willfully put something that eats your flesh into you. :mental:

Don't do an image search unless you have a strong stomach.

I really don't care if these idiots willingly shoot that shit up their veins. What idiots. :thatsright:

Agreed :(

Between this, bath salts, and the huge resurgence in heroin recently (at least in the Northeast), I think we can safely retire the Drug War and try something else.

We have had classes on this at the Police Academy. Very nasty stuff, very addictive. Very cheap to make.
-
What's the problem? Why the concern? Is it killing hood rats?....that's probably it.
-
I did an image search. Anyone who does that stuff knowing what it is going to do to them ... I say deny them medical treatment and let it rot the rest of them. We don't need them in the gene pool.

I'm probably a bit too sensitive with this topic having just lost a high school friend and one of the sweetest and funniest people I have ever known to an OD. He was far from an 'idiot' but boy did his first likely innocuous at the time choices ever lead him to spiraling the ultimate drain:-( Some mistakes carry consequences too big imo to even consider just giving things a try and drugs of this order is one of those 'the consequences are too great' things, not to mention having ZERO interest in ingesting, shooting, or putting in my body anything like gasoline or alcohol that this shit has in it. And there is at least one other person who has lost someone to a drug od on this board too. And I'm sure many more who have struggled through addiction. Addiction sucks from what I can see. I don't believe people choose what I saw from those pictures going in or continue unless there is some serious addiction to that stuff going on that they can no longer fight. That said it seems the message still needs to get out that even one time can be one time too many because nobody starts choosing my friend's fate or what I saw in those pictures. I just don't know the answer to that. I would bet many addicts start by self-medicating mental or emotional health issues and still more try foolish shit in their youth. One thing I do know is you probably can't stop people totally from being their own worst enemies or making those "consequences are too great"choices. It seems many assistance programs out there are less about helping people who really want to get off the drugs(many can't afford the mental health services that are critical to recovery so coping skills can be learned in place of drugs and mental/emotional health issues can be monitored and medicated(where appropriate) rather then self-medicating and more about enabling addicts to continue being addicts(free needles, methodone, flophouses, etc). What a nasty ****ing thing addiction is...that's all I have to say..Just nasty. :(
I choose to take a more merciful approach and ask God to heal this affliction and to some how give these people peace even if it is the permanent kind and/or strength to fight their addiction. Damn, and I thought the faces of meth was nasty:-(

Here's an article about a British documentary on the drug without gruesome pictures....I also googled the documentary and watched it.......then I read the comments and as usual the anti-Christian liberals were bashing the churches for what they were doing to help the addicts.....bastards.

Thank you for a very beautifully measured and heartfelt post. I am fortunate that, 20-odd years ago, I never learned of such a thing or it could be me with the flesh rotting out. For all the dumbass choices I made during my addicted years at least I stuck mainly with booze - needles were too much of a pain in the ass.
