Is anyone else paying attention to the German Elections?
I believe the polls open at 2 AM EST which is 1 hour 20 minutes away. I wonder what time the polls close and if any of the cable news channels like BBC or CNN international will cover the results tomorrow.
Any predictions?

1. Sort of.
Think Merkel will get it. It seems the Germans like her because their economy is doing fine even though her austerity policies in the rest of Europe have been disastrous, but apparently those people, like the Greeks don't have a vote.

4. I assume she will win but I hope if she does she wins less seats.
She didn't; she won more seats.

5. That's a possibility because her win will be narrow.
Her margin was pretty enormous.

6. I wonder if there will be a coalition.
Looks like it. Maybe it will moderate her.
Nope, no need for a coalition.

22. She has never NOT needed a coalition
ALL German governments of the last few decades have been coalitions. It's rare that a party wins an absolute majority of seats in a national election here in Germany.
See comment immediately above; no coalition.

11. If Merkel wins, she beats the Iron Lady in terms of time in charge...
Well, it looks like she's going to best the late Lady Thatcher, who's probably ecstatic anyway about the results.

13. If merkel wins
It means Germany will be seeing the EU as just another attempt to form a "reich."

15. I have been so busy I have not been able to follow it as closely as I had hoped to.
According to the Frankfurter Allgemeine, it is a really close race.

With polls that close, I think the odds favor a Merkel win. But the polls could be wrong. And I could be wrong about a Merkel win.
The polls were too understated; too bad for the primitives.

19. Merkel's party should have a tiny majority but she will have problems forming a coalition.
No problems, no problems at all.
The malarial primitive can kiss franksolich's ass.

44. Darn. Merkel totally hates LGBT. First Russia, now Germany. Looks like fascism is making a comeback over there.

Well libs, your King, Obama didn't do your cause any favors by ticking them off.

Merkel totally hates LGBT.....I guess they don't have as many LGBT's and supporters as the U.S. does, huh.

Here we have yet another example of the pitiful state of pubic education:

Zoro, you idiot, the Italians under Benito Moose-o-lini were freakin Fascists, the Germans were Socialists. What is so hard to understand about this? They were called Nazi, short for Nationalsozialismus, get it??

It seems country after country is fleeing the very policies Obama wants to implement here - I wonder why ?

Whilst anything which irritates the DUmmies is good fun...this isn't actually a good result for conservatives.
Frau Merkel heads the C.D.U./C.S.U. - this is a moderate party (definitely not conservative), however they have made several sensible reforms in the part term of office...they made strong gains in the election, but not enough to hold a majority of seats.
Before the election they were in coallition with the F.D.P., which is the closest thing that Germany has to a conservative party (actually believes in free markets). The F.D.P.'s share of the vote fell below 5%, and this means that they don't get any seats in the Bundestag.
The only other party worthy of any consideration is the new A.f.D., which is encouraging debate about the wisdom of dumping the DeutschMark in favour of the Euro (which is still turning into a new Lira, Peseta, or Drachma). They made good gains as they were coming from nowhere, in a country where worship of the E.U. is standard on all sides...but like the F.D.P. didn't manage to get 5%.
This means that the moderate party has a large plurality of seats, but will need to form a coallition to govern...and the only other parties in the Bundestag are definite leftists. There are four potential patterns:
C.D.U./C.S.U.-S.D.P. Moderates and leftists in coallition - bad news
C.D.U./C.S.U.-Green Moderates and watermelon environmentalists in coallition - bad news
C.D.U./C.S.U.-Linke Moderates and 'former' communists in coallition - bad news (but exceptionally unlikely)
S.D.P.-Green-Linke Leftists, watermelons, and 'former' communists - incredibly bad news, but I think very unlikely.

So, the good news is actually bad news.....so be it.....I sometimes hate to suffer alone. :-)

Because they are failures.

This is just my opinion......For 50 years "WE" protected Europe with our military forces allowing them to have the resources to flirt with socialism. We began to pull down our forces in Europe and then the cost of defense fell to them and what do you know, they couldn't afford socialism any more. Now all that socialism is breaking them....well, at least those that aren't already broke.

I've said this for years, and it's good to see I'm not the only one.
Because we relieved s-o-o-o-o many other countries of the burden of defense, they had money to spend on other things. Canada's a prime example of this.
It's been kind of like a parent who supplies a kid with the essential things for life.....and the kid with his own earned money can squander it on toys.
