House Republicans passed their stopgap funding bill Friday to keep government open while terminating the new health care law, setting up a final showdown next week with Senate Democrats and President Obama who have firmly rejected that.

It won't pass the Senate.  Reid will probably put Obamacare funding back in it, the Dems will pass it and then they'll throw it back to the House.

Then what?

But I'm also counting down the hours until Boehner caves. He is a man who has no guts.
The only reason it has gotten this far is a revolt among the GOP conservatives.

Conservatives will. REPUBLICANS on the other hand, will push only so far as they have to in order to fool their constituency into thinking they aren't completely in the tank for the commie progressives. :banghead:

I just don't understand the lack of political "guts" on the part of republicans.

Why are they NOT hammering the message of WHY we have bummer HELLcare............the democrats rammed it through without any republican support and now want to continue ramming it down the throats of the American people.

Republicans keep letting the democrats eat their lunch on issues without so much as a whimper. When it comes to politics, republicans are totally INCOMPETENT.  :loser:

2 Dems Join With GOP in 230-189 Vote to Defund Obamacare

(excerpt)

(CNSNews.com) - The 230-189 vote in the House of Reprsesentatives to approve a continuing resolution that will fund the rest of the government after Sept. 30—but not fund Obamacare—was not strictly along party lines. Two Democrats joined with the Republican majority in voting for the Obamacare-defunding CR, and one Republican voted against the CR. The two Democrats who broke ranks with their party were Rep. Mike McIntyre of North Carolina and Rep. Jim Matheson of Utah--both of whom survived in last fall's elections by very thin vote margins. McIntyre eeked out one of the closest congressional victories in the country in 2012, winning re-election in North Carolina's 7th congressional district by only 655 votes. His narrow victory over Republican candidate David Rouzer was not called until three weeks after election day, following a recount. Matheson, who represents the 4th district of Utah, defeated Republican candidate Mia Love by just 768 votes. Meanwhile, 6,439 votes in that race went to Libertarian candidate Jim Vein.

================================================

And so it begins.

If it should be brought to a vote in the senate (which I doubt) some dems will probably vote for it there too because of the 2014 elections.

Who was the Republican who voted against it?

Further down the article, it was a Rep from VA. He cited its lack of addressing sequester that will hurt the military.

I doubt it will get that far for a government shut down, but, Obama is vindictive as hell, so who knows.  If it would help him politically, he would want it to be as painful as possible for the people, just to punish Republicans.  He doesn't give a crap about the country....what he did with the sequestration has proven that.

Precisely.

Jim Matheson is the guy who BARELY squeaked out a win over Mia Love (768 votes, IIRC). She's running against him again, and the man has got to be feeling the pressure.

Mostly, he did this to give himself a little cred that he's not the Obama/Pelousi lacky all her ads claim he is, I reckon.

You're right about that. Obama doesn't give a sh__ about our country. Amazing that he was reelected. Doesn't say much about the average US voter's intelligence.

The Republicans need to stop caving to the dems and get way smarter. The bill passed by the house clearly funds everything but Obamacare. They need to be getting on the offense ASAP to get that message out.

Oh I have no delusions or fantasies about some house dem coming to the light.
They are saving their skins. And it will be a domino effect. As loyal as a Democrat is to the ball and chain that is Obama, they remember 2010. VIVIDLY. They know they won't have the same voter turnout in the mid-terms, and they lost the house due to Obamacare. Now, like a horrible case of déjà vu, Obamacare has come back again just in time for the midterm election season...only this time it is the law of the land and their constituents will effectively shove a boot in someone's liberal ass.

However....
It is out of a politician's healthy fear of their bosses that make good things for this country.
Be afraid dem dems. Be very afraid.

But you'll lose the senate anyway.  :loser:
The question at this point is...by how much?

It won't pass the Senate.  Reid will probably put Obamacare funding back in it, the Dems will pass it and then they'll throw it back to the House.

Then what?

First they will try the filibuster to prevent Reid from putting the funding back in.

Then if that doesn't work the House starts sending individual CR bills to the senate for things that need to be funded. For example...a stand alone CR to fund the military.

They'll force the Senate to vote up or down on each individual entity that needs $$$ for the next fiscal year.

It's facebook.  I take that into account.

The Facebook for defense finance is run and monitored by Dfas. It is used to disseminate information useful to its 'customers', a big piece of which are military and veterans whose pay is processed by DFAS. Dfas starting using social media sites as a nod to it being a tool used regularly by the folks they serve as an appropriate avenue to get information to end users quicker.

Now to the issue at hand. The information referencing this was directly from OPMs information. I'll cut and p it here for good measure:

OPM FAQ site, "READ OUR FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
In case of a potential government shutdown, the Department of Defense will have no legal authority to pay any personnel - military or civilian - for the days during which the government is shut down.  The shutdown will not affect payments to retirees and annuitants as those funds come from a retirement trust fund.  Below is the effect the government shutdown will have on active duty military, civilian personnel, retirees and annuitants, and DoD contractors.

Military: Active, Reserve, and National Guard members will be paid on time for pay entitlements earned September 30 or earlier.  Military members cannot be paid for duty performed after the expiration of the current CRA on September 30.  Once another CRA or an appropriations act is signed into law, normal disbursement of military pay will resume.

Civilians: All civilian employees will be paid on their normal pay date for all entitlements earned through September 30.  After September 30, the following rules apply:

Excepted employees who perform duty during the shutdown will be entitled to retroactive payments once another CRA or an appropriations act is signed into law.
For furloughed employees, Congress will have to provide authority for retroactive payments to be made.
Employees whose organizations have available resources such as Defense Working Capital Fund, will be paid as normal until such time as cash reserves are exhausted.
Non Appropriate Fund (NAF) civilian employees:  Your pay will be processed and paid as normal.
Retirees: Military retirees and annuitants are not paid from Continuing Resolution Act (CRA) appropriations, so those payments will continue as scheduled.

DoD Contractors: As a revolving fund organization, so long as the Department's Working Capital Fund has adequate funds for normal operations, DFAS will continue to make contract and vendor payments."

Yeah that's great but congress will be the ones taking that up the buns nor will the O clan go without their Christmas vacation. Not likely. It will be the gs 5-11taking it in the shorts; many of those vets now working as civilians especially in the halls of DOD jobs.  At least with this one compared to the day a week thing, at least they can actually apply for unemployment while the circus runs it's course in DC. As you said though many are prepared and can wait out either way knowing the financial repercussions a year and two or three from now are far greater then a paycheck.

Congressional stalemate rings in government slimdown
http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2013/10/01/partial-shutdown-begins-can-congress-white-house-compromise/

Quote
What the Obama administration is portraying as a "shutdown" of the federal government -- complete with signs posted at the entrances to government buildings, parks and monuments -- is turning out to be more of a "slimdown," as all but non-essential workers reported to their jobs Tuesday.

The biggest impact is expected to be felt for the 800,000 or so federal workers facing furlough. But hundreds of thousands of other workers are reporting for work, and a patchwork of services remains open to the public as lawmakers and the White House continue to battle over a spending package.

Mail will still be delivered, Social Security checks will go out and, thanks to a last-minute bill, the military will continue to get paid.

Government shutdown is a misnomer. It is government slimdown, which the government should do.

That's the problem. If they are non-essential, why do they have jobs?  Granted, I realize that some of those furloughed are needed, but I'm sure that half or more could be let go with no loss to operations.

I wonder how the private sector people who are out of work because of the policies of this administration are feeling about the wall to wall coverage of some government workers getting furloughed?

The almost 10 million who've dropped completely out of the labor force who won't get back pay like the govt people will.

I'd like to know what they think of this 24/7 coverage of the "shut down" while nothing is being said about their plight.
