WSJ op-ed writer Elizabeth O’Bagy fired for resume lie
http://www.politico.com/story/2013/09/wall-street-journal-elizabeth-obagy-fired-96637.html
The Syria researcher whose Wall Street Journal op-piece was cited by Secretary of State John Kerry and Sen. John McCain during congressional hearings about the use of force has been fired from the Institute for the Study of War for lying about having a Ph.D., the group announced on Wednesday.
“The Institute for the Study of War has learned and confirmed that, contrary to her representations, Ms. Elizabeth O’Bagy does not in fact have a Ph.D. degree from Georgetown University,†the institute said in a statement. “ISW has accordingly terminated Ms. O’Bagy’s employment, effective immediately.â€
O’Bagy told POLITICO’s Kate Brannen in an interview Monday that she had submitted and defended her dissertation and was waiting for Georgetown University to confer her degree.
Elizabeth O'Bagy lied about having a PhD. Really dumb! :mental:
-
Her resume isn't the only lie she's been telling lately.
-
She is said to claim that she has completed all the PhD requirements including submitting her dissertation, still awaiting its defense however, so if that's true then it's not a whopper in the "Jason Leopold" class, but still not the kind of integrity you have to have to become a believable spokesman for a think tank.
I suppose her national origin makes up in some part for her total lack of non-academic experience and young age, but like Rush I find it stunning that someone with so few years and such little (Nonexistent, really) direct diplomatic or military practical experience is afforded so much attention by senior government officials who supposedly have been studying the issues on which she is opining for as long as she's been on the damned planet.
-
I heard today she was on some muslim payroll like CAIR or some other equally well known muslim organization. At any rate, if true a complete conflict of interest.

Embattled Syria analyst Elizabeth O'Bagy now admits she was never enrolled in a Ph.D. program despite claims to the contrary as she rose -- and quickly fell -- as a prominent scholar whose writings were used to make the case for military intervention in Syria.
O'Bagy also has resigned from a Washington-based, pro-Syrian opposition group in the wake of the controversy.
The resignation and the admission, made in a statement to The Daily Beast, caps a remarkable turn of events for O'Bagy, who a little more than a week ago was traveling in rarified circles, as a frequently quoted analyst whose work was also cited on Capitol Hill. Both Secretary of State John Kerry and Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., touted her analysis that the Syrian opposition was mostly moderate, as they pushed for a strike on the Assad regime.
Yet O'Bagy was fired last week from the Institute for the Study of War after the think tank alleged she lied about her education credentials. The institute claimed O'Bagy did not have a Ph.D. degree from Georgetown University as she had claimed.
O'Bagy reportedly countered that she had defended her dissertation, and was simply waiting for the university to confer the degree.
But in a statement to The Daily Beast, O'Bagy reportedly admitted she was never enrolled in that program. She apparently applied to a joint master's/Ph.D. program, but was not accepted. She was only in the master's program.

Yes, in the lib world. In conservative circles that routine doesn't work as well.

It was apparently working great on John McCain, but then I don't consider him a Conservative.

I've never thought of McCain as dishonest. Misguided, yes, noble yes, a prevaricator, no.

After the Syrian slapstick, it's time to sober up U.S. foreign policy.

It's coming, I assure you. Sooner, if the Congress manages to get it's shit together and actually de-fund or kill ObamaCare. Just after the 2014 elections, otherwise, when the likes of John Cornyn, Lindsey Graham, Mitch McConnell and a few other RINO cocksuckers get ousted from their cushy seats by primary TEA Party challengers.
