Obama's rogue state tramples over every law it demands others uphold
"You could almost pity these people. For 67 years successive US governments have resisted calls to reform the UN security council. They've defended a system which grants five nations a veto over world affairs, reducing all others to impotent spectators. They have abused the powers and trust with which they have been vested. They have collaborated with the other four permanent members (the UK, Russia, China and France) in a colonial carve-up, through which these nations can pursue their own corrupt interests at the expense of peace and global justice."
....
"But now, as the veto powers of two permanent members (Russia and China) obstruct its attempt to pour petrol on another Middle Eastern fire, the US suddenly decides that the system is illegitimate. Obama says: "If we end up using the UN security council not as a means of enforcing international norms and international law, but rather as a barrier … then I think people rightly are going to be pretty skeptical about the system." Well, yes."

2. Monbiot is a hack.
In-the-know people like me know that Obama created the UN Security Council the way it is so he could win glorious victories like he just did on Syria.
People should stop second-guessing this president.
Regards,
Third-Way Manny
Really, we should STOP second guessing this president? The guy is a fning idiot with no common sense, but we should stop second guessing him...GOD you people really are stupid.

Linda,
Re-read Manny Goldstein's post. He is sticking a finger in the eye of the Obamabots on DU.
-
I guess I am not getting it.
-
Yes, he's being sarcastic. "In-the-know people like me..."
Anyway, George Moonbat! He should be proud that his last name coined a word. Thought he was mainly preoccupied with globull warming.
-
The sarcasim was hard to see, I was taking him at his written word...."People should stop second-guessing this president."

Not really, the "so he could win glorious victories like he just did on Syria" is pretty much a dead giveaway.

That was my first take also.....but, they are DUmmies. Hard to tell.

Manny is an idiot, but in his own way. He's so far left he views most Dems in leadership to be "RW fascists" (to use their limited vernacular). A world as Manny would like it to be would have "in-the-know people," and they'd all be loons where the concepts of freedom, justice, and liberty are defined as obedience to these self-proclaimed in-the-know people of whom he, and those like him, approve.

In the beginning weren't there just 4 members with veto power?

I'm not sure the exact number with nadining, but as it was set up the structure was the Security Council's 'Permanent members' (Essentially the major WW2 victors) had the veto, while the (Equal number, I think) of rotating member nations did not.
Funny how the UN-loving Democrats think that when we use our veto to block something we don't like under a Dem President, it's 'Protecting our allies and interests,' but when someone uses it on us, it's 'The UN is a broken, dysfunctional organization.'

Here's the tell:
Obama created the UN Security Council the way it is so he could win glorious victories like he just did on Syria.
Double-barreled, double-ought sarcasm right there.
