This was before the returns started coming in; the conservatives landslided, big time.
I'll bet LC EFA is smiling, where he's at.....

Australia election: Abbott poised for victory
Tony Abbott's Liberal-National coalition appears on course for a decisive win in Australia's general election.
Early counting showed a swing to the opposition coalition in several states, with exit polls forecasting it would secure a lower house majority.
A Newspoll exit poll, released just over an hour before polling closed in the east of the country, predicted that the coalition would secure 97 seats in the 150-seat House of Representatives. ABC News, in its first prediction, put that figure at 93.
Labor's Defence Minister Stephen Smith, speaking on ABC television minutes after polls closed in the east, said the government "will be defeated tonight".

Sadly, I can't say I'm totally surprised. Rupert Murdoch has been pimping for Abbott in his media outlets, so it looks like Rupert got the best government money can buy.

1. Here's a link to the results as they're coming in. It sucks...

I knew it was going to be bad, but it still sucks. I'm hoping the Greens can get the balance of power in the Senate...

3. Looks like a rout. I'm sure the recent infighting in Labour didn't help matters, either.
It was a rout. Too bad for the primitives.

29. Goodbye AU carbon tax.
Hello corporate hegemony.
The lament for lost taxes. Pretty much all they care about.

Maybe the U.S. electorate will catch the conservative virus..... :-)

Maybe the U.S. electorate moderates will catch the conservative virus..... :-)
Fixed for accuracy. That's all that's needed, for the change to occur.
-
I don't think the so called conservative party in Australia is conservative by our standards.

The Australian election results are a thing of beauty, it's a pity that the Coalition won't have a majority in the Senate but in the House of Representatives (which, critically, determines the government) it's a land-slide for the good guys. Tony Abbott is going to make an excellent Prime Minister as soon as the Governor General swears him in. So of course the DUmmies are miserable about it.

And in that case, a double tragedy for DUmmies. An anti-climate change tax...

4. That didn't help, but the defeat may have been even worse with Gillard leading the ALP...
Hopefully the ALP will rebuild and a strong leader will emerge.
I'm really bummed that I'm not going to get my NBN. And that they're going to cut 12,000 public service jobs, one of which may well be mine
Well bye.

5. That guy has never experienced an election sausage sizzle...
That makes turning up to vote fun. I made sure I turned up early just in case they ran out quick...
Early and often. Any bets this DUchebag is a 250+ pounder?

30. Labor definitely had its own internal conflict.
But the carbon tax was what did labor in, ultimately.
FREEPER TROLL!!!
With Labor in power, despite the infighting, we looked like a modern, forward-looking country. Now we're going to go back to being about fifteen years behind the rest of the world, as I remember it as a child.
Yeah right about that.

I hope he doesn't offer a job, like National Historian or Minister of Public Safety, to his sister-in-law in San Diego.

This is a man who has completed an Ironman Triathlon - a physique further removed from gNads it would be difficult to imagine.

Hey DUmmies, remember what happened to Congress the election after the last time you made gun control a big issue? Try a carbon tax this time.

The Aussies have had a few years of gun control now.....wonder if any of them would like to purchase a weapon?

They've had so many years that many have forgotten the basic rules of firearm safety.
There are a few that do the hoop-jumping to continue shooting. Not many.
Home invasion and strong-arm robberies are favored, as the people can no longer defend themselves.
Naturally, the elderly are the most common victims.

I suspect that, much like the US, there is a huge difference between how that law works in the urban vs. the rural environments.

True. Seems even the semi-rural areas are being hit now.
It's just sad that kids now days can't even be taught basic firearm safety in schools here.
Shooting teams used to be fairly common even in smaller towns. Not anymore.
Heaven help you even if you point a finger or a stick.
I'm sick of that shit, DAT.

My son was on the AJROTC rifle team, they used air rifles. Years ago they used .22's. Son got bored after awhile and moved to color guard.

Oh, yeah. It's not the issue around here that it is most places, but I'm sure sooner or later we'll end up with a superintendent or principal who "Ain't from around here." At least all my kids are old enough to have public school in their rearview mirrors.

I think you're old enough to remember the high school shooting teams.
I know you're old enough to remember public shooting ranges. (your 39, right?)
I don't know DAT, I just see an erosion of liberties and freedom we had as youngsters.
I see no good in that. None at all.

There are a variety of reasons why it's bad, ranging from feminizing everyone regardless of their hormones and all the unnatural stresses that inflicts, to the outlawing and shaming of risk, to setting up kids to be victims the first time they leave the nursery at age 18 and encounter real life and the actual bastards that inhabit it, to setting them up for PTSD all around the first time their absolutely-unprepared little psyches encounter a 'Significant Emotional Event.'

A simple "yes", would have been OK. :-)
DAT, I worked Fitzsimons as a finance officer. Very, very short time

in HS, about half the vehicles parked in the school parking lot were pickup trucks, about half of those having gun racks in the back windows, and almost all of those having a rifle or shotgun of some sort in it. All parked on school property
No one was shot, nobody said a word.
As a teenager in HS, all the boys carried a lock back knife with a blade 3-4 inches long, in a leather case attached to their belts (including me).
No one was stabbed, nobody said a word.
In HS, we had firearm safety classes taught in Health/PE, usually around hunting season in the fall, taught by local LEO's and game wardens, followed by allowing everyone to shoot a .22 at paper targets in a field behind the school. Some teachers even allowed students to bring their own rifles to scope them in.
No one got hurt, nobody said a word.
We didn't have a "resource officer" (armed, uniformed policeman) on the premises back then, we didn't need them, because no one got stupid and try to harm others.
We had a designated smoking area for students that smoked. Teachers in the industrial arts classes usually chewed or dipped, and allowed their students to so the same, as long as we were neat about it.
No one died from cancer or second hand smoke, nobody said a word.
We were taught CO2 was the building block of life, and were warned that we may be heading toward another "ice age".
That was 35-40 years ago, when the world was sane, and liberals were rare.
Now, I can't be legally parked on school property with a firearm in the car, even with a CCW.
A pocket knife is considered a "weapon".
Kids get expelled for bringing water pistols and plastic knives to school, or even having them on school grounds, or even drawing a picture of one, or even pointing a finger at someone and making a "bang" sound, or even thinking about doing any of the above.
Schools are "Tobacco Fee Zones", and I'm sure the tobacco nazis have periodic sweeps of the students' cars and lockers, looking for "contraband".
CO2 is a "pollutant", and globull warming is real.
This is what the "progressives" call "Progress".
I call it BULLSHIT!

And now the conservative (not necessarily the same thing as American conservative, but never mind) party in Norway swept the national elections on Monday.
I checked Skins's island, hoping to see primitive disappointment, but apparently the primitives aren't even aware Norway exists.
Geezuz, the primitives make illiterates look bright.
