Yes, mum has a raccoon infestation. These coons are the size of a small bear. She dutifully brings in the suet every night. One night , she ran late. Just as she was going outside to fetch it, coon, clambered up the steps (get this) hissed at her!! :argh:. She has called fish and game, they advised have a heart traps. Well this coon is sneaky, not too mention heavy!! I cant take the risk, that if she does nab him, he will scratch her...poor mum!!

One time when we were camping, a mother coon became very aggressive and chased us away from our card game, when she got up on the picnic table to eat our marshmallows. Her body took up the whole length of that table. The ranger said there had to be at least 10 raccoons for every camper in that park.

:bouncy:
Really, a racoon the size of a small bear or the length of a picnic table?

Batting practice.
I worked at a restaurant that was out in the boonies (the city limits have caught up with it since then). There was always a baseball bat out by the dumpsters to chase away possums. Nothing like taking a swing at some vermin to chase them off.

They do get big. Up on the North Coast they are huge. Same with the banana slugs and mosquitos.

and what does it do?
It scares the tiny, normal size raccoons away.
The gigantor raccoons...not so much.

A local woman that I know had a daughter 17 who took a summer job at fast food place in town.
She after dark took trash bags out to a dumpster and a raccoon jumped out and bit her.
Not so nice the raccoon was rabid so this young kid had to have all the painful shots and face fears of wildlife, even in her own back yard.

I use the large 2 door have-a-heart trap baited with a chicken wing hanging over the trip mechanism. Works every time! But of course that's the end of my heart! A 22LR dispatches the critter at that point and off to the dump with em! Ya know they kill for sport! They will kill every chicken in the coop just for the fun of it and not eat a bite! I just return the favor.
