SPOKANE, Wash. - WWII veteran Delbert Belton survived being wounded in action during the Battle of Okinawa only to be beaten and left for dead by two teens at the Eagles Lodge in Spokane on Wednesday evening.
Belton, 89, died from the injuries he suffered in the beating Thursday morning at Sacred Heart Medical Center.
Witnesses say Belton was in the parking lot of the Eagles Lodge at 6410 N. Lidgerwood, adjacent to the Eagles Ice-A-Rena, around 8 p.m. Wednesday when the two male suspects attacked him as he was about to head inside to play pool.
Spokane police are looking for two male suspects in the attack. They said the suspects are African Americans between 16 and 19 years old. One suspect was described as heavy set and wearing all black clothing. The other was described as being about 6 feet tall and 150 pounds. There was no description of what clothing the second suspect was wearing other than a silk do-rag.
This is sickening! People have no respect for the elderly. :argh:

WWII Vet Assaulted In N. Spokane Dies; Suspect Photos Released
PDATE: Press Release From The Spokane Police Department:
Spokane Police release surveillance photos of persons of interest in the homicide of an 88 year old man, occurring in N. Spokane last night. Anyone with information about either of the suspects is asked to call Crime Check at 456-2233.
On 08-21-13 around 8:15pm Spokane Police responded to Eagles Lodge, 6410 N Lidgerwood on a call of an assault. When officers responded they located a 88 year-old man in his car with serious injuries to his head. He was transported to the hospital where he died as a result of his injuries.
Spokane Police are looking for two suspects in the incident. They are described by witnesses as young African American males of average build.
Major Crimes Detectives are investigating the incident and are asking anyone with information to call Crime Check at 456-2233.

A juvenile has been arrested in the beating death of an 88-year-old World War II veteran, police in Spokane, Wash., said Friday.
He has been charged with first-degree robbery and first-degree murder, CNN reported.

I just saw that picture on Twitter, and shared it on Facebook with this comment.

I get where you are coming from, problem is we need to start penalizing the parents or care givers of the youth that they refuse to or cannot control.
We are expected to control our pets and livestock. Why are people not expected to control their children ?
We face a big problem with the youth of all races in this country, the care givers are not held responsible for what ever their kids do.
Much like raising pit bulls with no training and allowing them to roam the streets in packs and the people who raised them have no responsibility for their actions. Dogs are rounded up and sent to doggies prison or shot on sight. The care givers to the dogs are not held responsible in any way for their neglect.
This is Bull, these kids don't give a damn about what happens to them, but if they knew a loved one say their mom or dad would have to go to jail for their misbehavior because they did not keep an eye on them, or prevent them from joining gangs or know where they were at 11 O'clock at night, all this crap would slow down.
Time to make the parents responsible for the actions of their kids. Living in section 8 housing, have a kid arrested -----Refuse to allow the kid to live there. Parent has a choice to move out and put the kid under a keep away notice. Neighbors see the kid coming and going from mothers home, out she goes also with the 5 other children she has.
Draconian yes, but until the youth learn their actions will harm their own family's, not just themselves what other can we do ?????

There is the problem right there. Parents aren't even called "parents" any more.
The problems started when people started outsourcing the upbringing f their children. Sacrificing their children's lives and souls on the selfish altar of self-indulgence (career, money, etc.). The "2-incomes are needed to have kids" myth was exposed many years ago.
People decide to have kids and then can't warehouse them fast enough, to be revisited when they are 18+ to see how it all turned out.

I support a family of five on a single income. Yes my life would be easier and we could have more "stuff" if my wife worked too but my kids are way ahead of the curve because of the attention they've received with their mother teaching them and raising them.

I cannot say you are right or wrong, all depends on the circumstances of the crime and the racial make up of the community.
Most of our crimes are white on white up here. Manchester is a horrid place to live or work today, I have family living there and don't know how they dare to leave their homes after sunset.
Rochester down town after dark, is rife with police reports of Kids, yes kids, squaring off against each other with baseball bats in the town parks.
Hampton in the winter when the rents hit rock bottom brings in the big city Gangs to recruit members to the drug trade.
Portsmouth has its problems but the cops are no nonsense and a kick ass crew that make it safe to walk the streets most of the time. The only town I have ever considered safe to be in after dark.
I remember the grandma who was hiding a grandson from the law. When she got feisty with the cops about not allowing them in her home to search for him, hauled her, took a couple of cops, out of her home and put her in the paddy wagon, put in jail until court opened in 2 days. They did find the grand son hiding in her attic and she was fined big bucks for hiding him. Not easy for grandma at 80 years old to come up with money to pay her fine.
Dover is a nice small town, it is the place to live for the Asians. A tight knit community that somehow controls them selves be they from anywhere in Asia.
New Market, the same a large Asian community with very little crime by the Asians there. 50 years ago the community was 80% French or Polish, today about the only crimes are white on white.
Difficult for me to imagine the problems of the big city's when My Town has so little crime and is just a quiet bump on the map.

‘Our information is that the individual fought back and that may have made this, you know, a worse situation,’ said Spokane Police Chief Frank Straub in a Monday press conference.
Straub was quick to maintain Belton’s innocence in the matter.
‘I'm not being critical of Mr. Belton,’ he clarified. ‘We certainly encourage individuals to fight back, and he should have. But it shouldn't have happened to begin with.’

Sounds to me like he realized his statement wasn't entirely wise, and he hastened to "clarify."
