Kamikaze squirrels kill electricity – over and over again
http://royal.pingdom.com/2008/03/27/kamikaze-squirrels-kill-electricity-over-and-over-again/
Next time your home or office has a blackout, there’s a good chance you can blame a squirrel. Tens of thousands of outages are caused every year by suicidal squirrels being where they shouldn’t be.
Many power companies even place special “squirrel guards†on their equipment to try to diminish the problem.
The squirrels either chew on the power lines, accidentally cause shortcuts in power equipment or mangle themselves into transformer boxes looking for food. Neither of these alternatives are a particularly good idea, and all end with a fried critter and a power outage.
Proof that bunnies and squirrels are collaborating to doom humans. Rabbits also cause power outages as they are terrorists. They engage in terrorism against ptarmigans and humans.

RICHLAND -- A rabbit short-circuited some power line equipment, knocking out power to 3,000 Richland homes early Thursday.
The rabbit damaged the equipment at the Richland Energy Service's Tapteal substation near Keene Road.

It was Raccoons that chewed thur our water line (in the attic). The mailman noted the water, three days later, and turned it off.

When I was the SigO of 2/3 ACR, El Paso had a power outage which was near Airway Boulevard, IIRC, and it was caused by two squirrels getting into a transformer and mating. Neither survived the experience. Yes, some base housing was affected, IIRC.
