Oh my.

I've acquired 52 packets of unsweetened koolaid.
Now what?
If I bought 20 of the stupid 10 cent packs I got a 5 pound bag of sugar for free, which I wanted for jam production. But if I got 26 packs, I also got $2 back in store bucks, making the sugar 60 cents. So I did that deal twice.
Now I have the 52 packs of koolaid which I don't drink. I got lemonade flavor thinking it would be the most versatile. The ingredients are citric acid, calcium phosphate, maltodextrin, and less than 2% "natural flavor", lemon juice solids, ascorbic acid, and of course food coloring.
If it helps, I also accidentally bought a whole bag of the shitty mealy nectarines. Mercifully it was only for a dollar so I haven't invested a lot there, but maybe someone here has a recipe for koolaid nectarine miracle surprise?

1. Maybe make some ice pops?
With the Kool-aid and nectarines?
Or you could add gelatin and make jello from them. My grandmother used to make jello salads. I guess only in the Midwest does jello count as a salad.

4. I have gelatin, so that's an option.
I wonder if I mix the nectarines with bananas if it would disguise the texture a little in a frozen pop.

8. Might compound the texture issue
Mushy with mushy. You could caramelize the nectarines and use them in something else, perhaps an upside down cake.

2. Here you go
after which a youtube thingie on how to dye the hair using Kool-Aid
It also works on any protein fibers, like ugly wool sweaters from the thrift shop. Or yarn.
Color fastness isn't always great, but o bla di.

6. Ah! I should have got something besides lemonade!
My students would have snatched it up for hair dye, I forgot all about that!

10. Can you take them back to the store to trade for different flavors?
The neighbor kid sometimes colors his hair purple or green with Kool-aid, it's a fun temp hair color.
.....and now.....the hypochondrial primitive!!!:

12. makes a great pet safe dye.
or pigment for homemade paint or playdough.
but does turn plain little chunks of untreated wood into safe parrot toys.

3. Don't know about the koolaid
But the nectarines will be decent if you make a crisp out of them.

5. I've read that
but they have so little flavor, I keep envisioning it tasting like styrofoam cobbler. Have you done a successful rescue that way?

7. They make a great deoderizer
When I had a lingering smell in my dishwasher my appliance guy told me to run it with a pack of Kool aid and a little baking soda. I have done it in my washer and down the disposal as well.
Works great.

15. I love this idea.
We have a disposal that gets a little funky sometimes.
I gotta say though, the husband gave me "the look" when I just suggested I could dump it down the drain.

9. You could donate the KoolAid to a local food shelf for a family with kids that would appreciate it.

14. If I can't find uses for myself
I definitely am considering giving them to kids at school. I don't know about a food bank, because a packet is 10 cents, but then you have to add more than 10 cents worth of sugar to it - I feel like donating pure junk food to a food bank is already questionable, but one that requires the recipient to pay extra to buy more junk food to add to it ... plus using more gas than the donation is worth, that doesn't feel like a good fit to me right now.
I have done that in the past with other coupon deals that netted better quality food, though. (And still got shit for it here - for donating boxes of cereal, which didn't meet some people's standards for donations, go figure!)

16. If you have a lot of lemon, dumping them into a dishwasher without soap or dishes will help to clean it. It would probably require ten packs each time you did it however. The asorbic acid is what cleans the dishwasher.

11. I've bought mealy peaches a few times this summer
Yuck. And when you buy them hard at the store you don't know if they're going to be good or not. Will look for local peaches at the farmers market soon.

13. The store tricked me.
I bought a couple a few days earlier to test them and they were good. So I went back, and they had swapped the good ones with this nastiness!

17. Here is a recipe you could try.
Strawberry Kool -Aid Pie
Ingredients:
1 - 8 ounce tub of Cool Whip Whipped Topping
1 - 14 ounce can of Sweetened Condensed Milk
1 - packet of unsweetened strawberry or lemonade Kool -Aid (or flavor of your choice)
1 - 9 inch Graham Cracker or Nilla Wafer Pie Crust
Directions:
Add all the ingredients together and pour into a prepared graham cracker crust.
Chill about 2 hours then serve.
The flavor possibilities are endless my favorites are: Lemon, strawberry, tropical fruit, orange, cherry and pink lemonade.
You can also use a bit of food coloring for pies like lemonade. Fruit can be added if you prefer.
Maybe some strawberries for strawberry pie or sliced bananas on the bottom of the crust and then pour strawberry flavor on top. You can experiment all you want.
For the lemonade pie pictured I added about 6 drops of yellow food coloring and about 1/4 cup regular sugar to tone down a bit of the tartness.
Well, the primitive doesn't seem to understand something.
No big deal, because primitives never understand anything; they just yap and whine.
Just because something's advertised as "free" or a "deal," doesn't mean it is.
She should've just bought the sugar.
-
Why doesn't she just give it to the poor?
-
Now what?
Either learn to like Kool-aid flavored jam or kick yourself in the ass for being so stupid.
-
Simple solution.
Put the sugar in the pantry and throw the rest of that shit in the trash.
-
DUmmies, this is why you are always complaining about money. The details are a bit sketchy in the original post (was the sugar free, or did she get $2 off the sugar) but it sounds like you paid $5.20 for something that you didn't need at all, and that you don't even know what you should do with. You should have just bought the sugar, it is hardly an expensive item to buy.
-
Jeez, is there anything the DUmmies won't bitch about?

Crazy talk. That's the government's job. Isn't that why we pay them?

My kingdom for a bag of sugar.

Unbelievable how pathetic that is.
The store "tricked" her. :mental:

Not that I know of, Ralph. Over the years I have found some things that always happen no matter what. Death, taxes and dummies bitching are the most consistent. :cheersmate:

She spent $5.20 on the kool-aid , but got $2 store credit and the free sugar. But sugar around here is less than $3/5 lb bag.
