As Rhode Island and Minnesota join the evolved states, some thoughts.
Today, Rhode Island and Minnesota, reflecting the will of the majority of their respective citizenry, granted a basic human right to every one of their citizens. I confess to not having been aware that this was about to happen. When I heard this morning that it had, one of the very first thoughts that crossed my mind, quite on its own without any conscious effort to consider such things, that this was another measure of deep fracture in our society.
At that moment it was clear. In addition to red and blue states, in addition to union and right to work states, in addition to so many other clear, obvious, definable fissures, we now have what can rightly be termed Inclusion States and Exclusion States. In one group, things are a dreary gray derived of binary black and white thinking and black and white beliefs. In the other group, things are bright and cheerful, as can be noted by their veritable rainbow of acceptance and recognition.
The fact that states can *still* constitutionally endorse clear discrimination shows how little we, as a country, have evolved. This needs to become a federal matter.

Let the other states continue to evolve, surely seeing that the states that embrace equal marriage are not falling off into the sea will embolden the progressive forces in the states where it is possible to effect change, and weaken those who warn of divine retribution.
Yes, there are some states that will never see the light, but we need to wait until they are clearly in a small minority before we stomp on their antiquated notions of what a marriage is.

I am not sure there will be a major "next" right away.
First there will be a couple of generations of telling the queers endlessly how put upon they were,how much society owes them and how it should pay them back.
Pretty much what they are doing now with minorities.
I don't think the Al Sharptons of the world will appreciate losing their lead place at the gov gravy train line for a bunch of mewling,prissy white boys though.

Homosexuality does not produce offspring, so nothing related to it can be "evolutionary".
Same sex marriage does not perpetuate our species, so it's not "evolutionary".
More accurately, it is "counter-evolutionary".

It's certainly a biological dead end, but humans are social animals and our societal constructs have a life of their own that spans and outlasts many, many biological generations, which is what Stink4Brains is really talking about when he says 'Evolution.'
