Lightning Rod NYC Pastor’s Stunningly Confrontational Sermon on Trayvon Martin: ‘You See the World Through Your Black Eyes’
http://www.theblaze.com/stories/2013/07/18/lightning-rod-nyc-pastors-stunningly-confrontational-sermon-on-trayvon-martin-you-see-the-world-through-your-black-eyes/

Quote
Dr. James David Manning, the notoriously controversial chief pastor at the ATLAH World Missionary Church in New York City, recently delivered a bold and controversial message to his congregants about the black community’s perception of the George Zimmerman trial. He urged his mostly black congregation to stop viewing the world through their “black eyes” and start looking at it through the “blood of Jesus.”

If they did that, the pastor explained, there would be no denying that the verdict in the Zimmerman was the correct one. He also told those who are convinced that Zimmerman is guilty that they only believe that because they are black.

Quote
It should be noted that Manning is an outspoken critic of President Barack Obama (which is really an understatement as he regularly refers to the president as “long-legged mack daddy” and compares him to Hitler and Satan) and has in the past heralded the message of the “birthers.” There is no denying the pastor is a colorful and controversial character, but his sermon is still bound to cause a stir.

The One isn't even black. He's a pretender, just like everything else in his life.

He is married to a black whiner, though.

Pastors need to stay the hell out of politics, especially in their sermons.

Not much more pisses me off than to hear some pastor rail on about shit he/she can't control anyway, and usually, that pastor has a political agenda.

Stay the hell out of politics, preachers. Yes, it can be done.  :fuelfire:

I think the Zimmerman case is firmly within the realm of societal commentary. People like owebuma et al politicized it.

I don't think "societal commentary" about political scandals has any place in a church. A real or imagined church.

I think most people would agree with your statement, however, in MOST black churches politics is a normal part of the sermon. Living just across the line from Philadelphia, I see or hear pastors engaged in all sorts of political activities.

It's also normal to see politicians in the pulpit in a black church.

Many Black churches mix politics with religion in their sermons. That being said, pastors should stay out of politics.

All I'm saying is when I hear a preacher walk down the political runway, I walk out the door.

There is a way to preach the Word of God without mixing politics into the discussion. I welcome a preacher who can do that.

JP, it is interesting what you're saying about black churches. I wasn't aware that politics was such a big part of a church like that. Based on your viewpoint, that would explain the number and political persuasion of most black voters, most of whom I'd characterize as "low information." As long as the candydate is black and as long as the preacher keeps on beating that drum, those LIVs will continue to pull the Dem handle.

And lest I sound like a bigot, I can well imagine that white churches operate the same way -- as long as the preachers beat that drum, that's what the congregation is likely to vote.

For one, I'd like politics to stay the hell out of church. It doesn't need to be there, it shouldn't be there, and the preacher -- if he's good -- can figure out a way to bring relevance to the congregation without resorting to spewing the same shit of the MSM.
