A sad, sad day in my beloved Texas.

Today, the idiot Republicans in Texas will pass SB1, restricting a woman's right to not only safe and legal abortion, but to simple health care services as well.

I find this simply astonishing that it has gotten to this point, and I accept this reality with great difficulty.

I grew up in the 60's and remember the fight to legalize abortion. I know personally women who, before that right was available to them, FOUND someone, some where to have an abortion, risking their lives in ways that they never should have had to do. And I see that reality coming back to haunt me.

Let me tell the world ONE THING if I never tell the world another thing in my lifetime. That being IF A WOMAN IS DETERMINED TO END A PREGNANCY, SHE IS GOING TO FIND A WAY. Legal, illegal, safe, unsafe, easy or difficult. She will find a way.

For the life of me, I cannot understand why the fanatics who are passing these bills limiting abortion can do so and go home and sleep at night. The blood of every woman who will be forced to seek illegal, unsafe termination of a pregnancy for whatever reason - that BLOOD is on these idiot's hands and I hope, personally, that they all rot in hell for doing this to the rest of us.

I'm a woman in my fifties and pregnancy is no longer possible for me. So...I could go quietly by and not worry about the direction that this legislation is taking my state and my country. After all, I won't be affected by this. But I simply cannot do that. I cannot stand the thought of even one young woman, scared, alone and afraid, needing and wanting an abortion having to go to some back alley clinic, putting her life at risk, punishing her for someone else's stupid moral and/or religious bigotry, scarring her for the rest of her life. And I hold responsible any one who has made that scenario a real possibility for that young woman!

What kind of world do we life in any more?

So...what to do next. What can we do? There is nothing except to yet again resolve publicly and loudly that I will be doing my damnedest in 2014 to try to get progressive, logical thinking people elected.

I am tired and weary of the fanatics running this country. Who is with me?

I'm tired of the abortion fanatics who fight tooth and nail all for the imaginary right of infanticide.

1. We'll be moving to Texas in about 18 months and I've been dreading it...

because of all the throwback wingnuts there - but I'm suddenly looking forward to joining with sane, evolved Texans to fight off the crazy.

Looks like those of us who were kids in the 60s have another chance. I was always a little jealous of the bigger kids who were old enough to be more a part of things back then so now I'm going to embrace the opportunity.

One place to start is registering all those Texans who aren't participating yet (heard that's a big number).

Let's play a lot of classic rock while we organize!

Texas doesn't want you.

3. I am also in that age group

And I still remember what it was like before Roe vs Wade. It was not a pretty picture. I actually think women our age who remember both before and after the decision are fighting this harder than even the younger women. And the repukes have lost their minds, they are going after birth control too.

How are we going after birth control? I don't know of any repuke who wants to deny anyone the right to provide themselves their own birth control.

4. Sadly, the people who pass these bills have no conscience that the "blood on their hands" argument,

or any other argument for that matter, could in any way impact. These types of people, don't seem to feel badly about anything they do, that might harm others. In fact, these types of people, just don't seem to possess the normal feelings, that "normal" human beings should have, when they cause harm to or hurt others. This seems especially true of Republicans, and it seems to be present more particularly, in Republicans who are in positions of power, and who have decision making power over others. I believe that it is a serious character flaw, that combined with religious fanaticism, makes for a very dangerous person, especially if this type of person attains a position of power over others. The best thing that we can do, is GOTV and do our best (even with this rigged system), to keep these types of people out of positions of power.

Lou

Typical DUmmy, everything is backwards, if you don't support infanticide then you somehow have blood on your hands. Meanwhile the abortion crowd is covered from head to toe with the blood of the millions of babies denied the right to live.

8. +1

Well said!!! I agree! Some of the Republican fanatics are the most conscienceless beings I've ever encountered.

It's because I have a conscience that I oppose abortion.

Libs assume and assert that abortion is birth control.

Conservatives aren't against abortion because we want to interfere with uteruses, we are against abortion because we believe that even the unborn have lives that are worthy of preservation.  Birth control is easy to get in the US, even if your insurance doesn't cover it.  There is no reason for women to "require" abortions on the level that they currently due other than laziness and lack of foresight.

Hey DUmmies ! Wait until Universal Heathcare starts !

If it stays true to form and follows Europe's lead, most abortions will no longer be performed after the 1st trimester.

Hugs & Kisses (sorry, no tongue) -

Correction: Not so easy to kill babies over 5 months old. Still pretty much just as easy under five months other than abortion clinics will have to be as cleanly as a hot dog cart.

Moonbats will run through every mental contortion possible to avoid individual responsibility. Look dumbass, legal or not, unsafe or not, if you are a woman of sound mind then abortion is a choice you make as an individual. No one is holding a gun to your head. People may differ on what constitutes a valid or moral choice, but it's a choice just the same. People who make laws are not responsible for the consequences you suffer in breaking them, no matter how much you disagree with said law.

As far as "rotting in hell" goes, I'd play the odds of the person advocating for policies that have allowed the slaugter of 53,000,000 innocents as taking up that particular residence, not the person trying to save them.

Oh, I should correct one thing - you do hold some people individually accountable. They're called conservatives. Everyone else is merely a puppet, totally under the control of outside forces.

Can any Proglodyte step in here and inform us:

1) what medical condition requires abortion after 5 months and

2) where in the TX law such a procedure is forbidden in that circumstance

1. We'll be moving to Texas in about 18 months and I've been dreading it...

Why?

Cheaper cost of living?
Less taxes?
More employment?

Texas does not want you.

...and I don't even live there.....
