Russia Says It Will Arrest Openly Gay Tourists
Thinking of taking a vacation to Europe this summer? If a trip to iconic city of Moscow or the edgier St. Petersburg is on your bucket list, an anti-gay law recently passed in Russia may have you thinking again. It is now outlawed to be ‘out and proud.’
In a throwback to the country’s authoritarian ruling, Russian president Vladimir Putin has signed a controversial law that punishes people for “homosexual propaganda.†The law fines people—including tourists—up to 200,000 rubles ($6,240 CDN) for “propaganda of non-traditional sexual relations.†For Canadians—where same-sex marriage is legal—it is unfathomable that Russia’s laws permit the government to arrest and detain gay, or pro-gay, foreigners for up to 14 days before they would then be expelled from the country.

According to Voice of Russia, any display of affection between same-sex couples could cause a “distorted understanding†that gay relations and heterosexual relations are socially equivalent, and risk spreading Western liberalism. Putin claims the law doesn’t discriminate against LGBT people, but rather—in an argument riddled with faulty logic—is there to “protect children from pedophilia.â€

You know, there was once the idea of the "Ugly American," who strutted around foreign places as if he owned them, and could do whatever he wanted, no matter the sensibilities of the natives.
I didn't think the primitives were fond of ugly Americans.
Has it ever occurred to them that Russians might not care for flaming gays?
Never mind whether it's right or wrong, or the "why" of it; it's just a stark fact that Russians don't care for it.
And since it's their terrain, their sensibilities should be respected.

What we need is to set up Gay Pride parade vacations to Russia. The LGBLTs (hold the lettuce) will swarm like lemmings on their own dime. We must suppress the fact that the Russians aren't tolerant of gays, at least until we get them all over there. If we can do that, they will self deport, and maybe with luck never return. Then we will see how far America hating gets the LGBLTs (hold the lettuce).

I don't think it's gays per se that has Putin's feathers all a flutter. I think it's how strong and effective their lobby and activism has been. Putin has seen how such a small percentage of society can upset the apple cart.

This isn't going to win me any friends here, but in my personal, private opinion, Vladimir Putin is exactly the sort of leader the Russians need, and perhaps the best leader of Russia since God was a boy.
And this is something I know much much better than the cousin does.

I'm not going to hold my breath, but it would seem a reasonable action from a president who "champions gay rights".
