Title: Sarah Palin considering 2014 US Senate run
Post by: txradioguy on July 10, 2013, 01:31:47 PM
Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin expressed her interest Tuesday in the U.S. Senate seat currently occupied by fellow Alaskan, Democratic Sen. Mark Begich.

In an appearance on Sean Hannity’s radio show, the 2008 vice-presidential nominee elaborated on the prospect of her leaving the Republican Party to form a third party, something she hinted at late last month in an appearance on Fox News.

“Well, [leaving the GOP is] certainly not my first choice,” Palin replied. “The Republican Party is the party of [Abraham] Lincoln and [Ronald] Reagan, and the planks in the platform are right for this country. I stand strong on those planks. I just wish that more of our leadership — the movers and shakers within the party, would stand strong on those planks with the rest of us — those who want to stop Barack Obama’s transformation of America, and the way we do that is by staying true to our principles.”

She explained that Begich is one of the politicians that should be replaced, and confirmed that she is considering a run for his seat.

“I’ve considered it because people have requested me considering it,” she said. “But I’m still waiting to see what the line-up will be and hoping that, there again, there will be some new blood, some new energy, not just kind of picking from the same old politicians in the state that come from political families that have sort of reigned up there for so many years, because too many of them have been part of the problem. But I’m glad you brought that up because Sen. Mark Begich has got to be replaced. He has not done what he has promised to do for the people of Alaska and that was to represent what it is that the nation needs in terms of energy development and so many other natural resource development issues that are near and dear to Alaskans’ heart. Because he is on the wrong side of the aisle, he has to go along to get along with his Democratic leadership, and that’s a shame.”

I hope she runs for Senator and then for President. Might as well run as an independent cause the Repub. party sucks, and the RINO big money creeps will do everything they can to defeat her even if it means re-electing a Democrat. That is a shame but it is the truth. I have lost all faith in the Repub party with politicians like Bonehead, McConnell, McCain, etc.

Independent is probably how she'll end up going.  Especially in light of what the NRSC told Liz Cheney yesterday if she dares to primary Mike Enzi.

I hope so. I think it would be fitting for Americans 100 years from now to be as clueless as to who the Republican Party ever was, as they are about the Whig party nowadays.

Whig Party......they wore tights and white wigs to parties.....right?

Yep, that sounds like todays RINOs.....those tights have shut off the blood supply to their balls and now they have no balls.

She actually might have the standing to run as an independent, particularly in Alaska where she served as governor, although I think she'd be better off maintaining her affiliation with the republican party.

I have to disagree. This country needs a reversal of the way the country is heading. Trying to make changes as a Repub. Junior Senator is a joke. Too many RINO's and entrenched old timers that like things just the way they are. The elitist/Rockefeller types control the Senate. We need independents to throw the bums out not put more me too, go along to get along, Repubs in office. IMO, most of the Repubs in the Senate need a kick in the groin to see if they have any balls.

Yes, but she has a better chance of overthrowing the status quo by shaping the position of a pre-established faction than by going completely rogue. And she would hardly be an anonymous Jr. Senator. She's been a national figure for 5 years now.

I don't know how much you remember about the 2010 general election but the "pre-established faction" did all they could to insure democrats were elected OVER Tea Party republicans.

In Alaska, I think "Independent" would be her best bet.

Going rogue is exactly what is needed. Maybe some of the Repub. wimps will follow her. The Repub party needs a complete overhaul cause there is not a hell of difference between them and the Democraps.

I agree that republicans need to do more to distinguish themselves from their liberal colleagues, but I hardly think it would be the "wimps" who would follow her. My concern is that there's not many senators courageous enough to break ranks with their party, rendering the actions of those who do more of a gesture than a real attempt at reform.

Ted Cruz Trey Gowdy and Ron Johnson would disagree with your theory that it's a joke.

Bad choice of words on my part. However,  the old crusty long standing Repub with seniority wind up making policy.

I have not kept up with politics since Mitt lost the election. Have not heard any Repub but Palin want to cut spending drastically. You want to know why there is a lot of talk but no action. It is because when a project in a politician state winds up on the chopping block, holly hell breaks loose. Cut the other program but not mine.

What is a joke is Paul Ryan deficit reduction plan. Letting it go up half as much as Obama wants while it reaches 20 trillion in just a few short years is the ticket. Just let it go up and up.

Can't vote for her (unless she moves to TX) but I will send her money as I will to Liz Cheney, Col West and Mia Love. Because I'm a right wing sexist, racist, homophobe.

Agreed. She would caucus with the Repubs, without having any of their taint on her.
