I'll wait for our son to come over to help out. My trailer is full of smaller logs and branches.
There'll be a hell of lot more. There's 40' of trunk left from which these large branches were cut.
And our neighbor will have a huge red oak taken down, too.
<GROAN> I'm getting too old for this shit. :old:

Do you use a splitter, or are you splitting by hand?

A small splitter. I had a gas engine powered splitter I made that I sold due to my arthritis preventing me from picking up the logs and putting them into the splitter. I bought a small electric splitter that we use in the garage, so it doesn't matter if it's raining or the sun's shining. I just bring a trailer of logs to the garage and away we go. It's only about 8" high. It's just 81o now, but it's really humid today. I'm waiting for our son to get done playing guitar and harmonica with a small band at a farmers' market, and then he'll be over to help me.
This is the one I have. Did not buy it from Amazon, though. (http://www.amazon.com/Powerhouse-XM-380-Electric-Hydraulic-Splitter/dp/B004323O1I/ref=lp_1091946_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1373129251&sr=1-1)

I want one!
Growing up we had a large one that my father made, I helped, I was young. The hydraulic ram came from a John Deere excavator. The motor we found was so old it was rope start (wrapping the rope around the pulley every time to pull start the engine) but it started every time after it had a proper tune up. It was towable and we would take it to my grandparents and help them split wood also. It was a real time saver.
But..........the steel I beam you put the logs on was about 3 feet or higher off the ground. Some of those logs were heavy!

yeah, but think of the vibration :naughty:

My BIL south of Buffalo has a neighbor with a sawmill/splitter that's in its own shed and powered by a Chevy 6-cylinder engine. Geez........
But he uses nothing but wood for all of heating needs, and his basement with a 12' ceiling is stacked floor to ceiling in half of it. Retired now, he once worked for the road department in Erie County and had whole trees delivered by flatbed semis.

That's a female thing, but there are smaller devices for those "special moments." :naughty: :lmao:

I'm done splitting logs for the year. And maybe longer than that. We have so much friggin' split wood - 8 skids of it.
This PM we'll take the camper into town to the car wash and scrub the winter grime off of it.
Then that should do it, except for cutting and mulching grass this summer.

Well, you take care my friend, do over do it, in the heat!!! I mean it!!! Make sure you and your helpers keep hydrated with water, Gatorade or the like.. though beer and other spirits are tempting, are not good when you are working...

That's why it's good doing it in my garage. Out of the sun, with a BIG fan blowing on us!
All we have to is load up the yard trailer and pull it into the garage. I use my tractor to do that.
Never imbibe alcoholic beverages when splitting or sawing wood. Never.

I never suggested that you would, but some idiots have.. It's all fun and games, till someone loses a body part

Then they want sane people to pay for all of their medical care.
