For those of you in the South West, please heed the heat warning
it's eleven in the morning, and the medical calls for heat stroke and postration are off the scale, as well as two full rescues... both heat related.

Thankfully no wild fire yet...

We really do not want to hear any of you got heat stoke ok.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/10023128000

Treat advice to the addled masses of the DUmp. Don't stoke out from postration.

3. It is a comfy 76 in San Diego, by the coast.

but 96 at Alpine right now... no, this weather is not normal.

I got scanner duty...

Keep hydrated... you know the drill

Another brutal day of scanner duty.

7. it looks like sidewalk egg cooking time
It can be a good way to teach kids the danger of a hot sidewalk

Well, nutcase, a hot sidewalk isn't dangerous unless there's a hoodrat pounding your head into it.
And even today it will not cook an egg.

5. So far so good from the Fire Fighting perspective
I covered a fire in Lakeside and my temp gauge read 40 centigrate (100+)... with all that nomex and long pants, and boots, I was drinking water like well... (I keep the jeep's gauge in Centigrade since I get it better)
The crazy bald dwarf was in her little punkin-sized nomex, but her stubby pegs hardly require long pants.

It was 40 centigrate. There are 40 centigrates in a meter, so 40 centigrates equal 60 centimeters.

One-and-one-half centimeters per centigrate.

The current heat map for the whole region is just breath taking.

And I got an app on my machine that gives me the CURRENT conditions...

Wow! Current conditions?!?

I guess you're required to have a press pass and everything to get a weather app with current conditions.

Breaking News.  It's ****ing hot outside.

I heard someone on the radio lamenting the high temperature... in Death Valley. :whatever:

It's actually sort of nice here today.  High 80's.

If 40 centigrates equal 104 fahrenheits, then one centimeter equals 1.73 fahrenheits.

Yup, suffice it to say that's roughly equal to five feet of hailstones, and it gets worst.

Most places have cooling centers such as malls that open their doors at 6AM to allow those with no AC to come in and sit all day.

Good for business, by the time the shops open the people are hungry and crowd the food courts and wander about buying the small things one gets on impulse.

In a big time heat wave the city buses run people from the city for free to these cooling centers. Reverse this and in a big chill buses pick up people to take to the malls to warm up.

Worse comes to worse lob a brick through a bank window and be sure to get 3 hots and a cot  until the emergency is over.

Cooling down here too.  Highs in low 70's, lows in 50's.

I think we should blame the BFEE.

Pretty nice here today too. Low 80's with intermittent showers. 71 right now after the rain.

Yeah, I'm really sure that when people seek weather advice, rather than watching the weather channels on television or listening to it on the radio, they head to Skins's island for what they need to know.

Been to 29 Palms during July/August. Hot as hell and we only did most of our training at night .The average temp during the day was between 110-120 degrees . You can bet anyone that's been there longer then a week during the summer already has learned to take care of themselves with out the CBD posting her usual nonsense.

STFU Nadin.

Those of us who are actually used to living in the desert can take care of themselves.  We stayed indoors all day and drank water.  We took our daughter outside when it cooled down to 108 to play with her birthday present for about 15 minutes.  No one was harmed.

It was 117 degrees around 1:30 or 2pm.  After 110, it all feels the same.

Remember nadin's warning - You have to be careful about postration in all those centigrates down there in the South  West.

I wonder how Kirk, the Las Vegas Leviathan, handles the heat. He won't work, so can't afford AC, and he's encased in those grotesque layers of blubber. He can't find size 15EEEEEE shoes for his flipperfeet, so he can't go outside on the hot pavement. He's a moonbat, so if he's suffering he richly deserves it.

It's a shame that the toilet lids he uses for shoes don't have the same cooling properties as the porcelain bowl they were attached to in a former life.  At least his feet would get some relief.

Nope we have pretty nice weather year round, it's 76 right now.  I think nadin is just trying to create controversy.

90 in Alpine?  Oh, noes!  We's all gonna DIES!!!

Oh, wait--the normal high for Alpine this time of year is about 85-87.  Whoopsie.

Nads--dipshit, dollink--I've been in heat.  Dry heat and humid heat.  I'll take Vegas/Death Valley over Guam/PI/Singapore any friggin day.  I've driven from LA to Vegas.

In July.

With no A/C in the car.

When it was 100 when we got to San Bernardino/Riverside, 105 in Glen Helen, 110 in Victorville, and 115 in Barstow.  Oh, and 122 in Baker, according to the thermometer outside Big Boy's.  I personally went through FIVE 24-ounce bottles of water that trip.  And aside from being a little crusty from all the salt drying on my clothes/skin, wasn't even damp.

So yea, nads, BTDT.  Some of us don't live in front of a scanner.  Even in relatively "comfortable" New Hampshire today, I spent a good chunk of it working outside in a heat index approaching 105.  So pretty please, go die in a ****ing fire already.

Finally, I also used to live closer to the beach than you (think Point Loma.)  Also lived closer to the beach in Orange County.  Ever heard of Santa Ana winds, you dumb scrunt?  105 was not unheard of a mere five miles from the ocean when those got kicking around in the summertime.

Seriously, why do you post when it's so obvious you haven't the first effin clue of which you speak?  Plonk that, toots.

I had a good time while on star-watching duty last night; probably a better time than the cousin had while on scanner duty.

By the way, one wonders--does the cousin wear a uniform or something when on scanner duty?

I took the femme and a friend of hers out to near where our esteemed colleague Skul spent his boyhood, and we watched.

Usually, even if the sky's clear, there's fog and mist way up several miles in the atmosphere, and this is what night-time in the Sandhills of Nebraska looks like:

Somewhere during my time in Basic Training at Ft. Benning in the summer of 1980 the temp one Saturday got to 107 and the humidity was close to .if not 100%. Since we were in the old WWII barracks at Harmony Church we didn't have AC and were ordered to stay inside and only go out for meals and to get soda's from the pop machine which was a half block away from our barracks. During that summer a lot of people died in the heat wave all over the South.

I grew up in Phoenix. I know heat.

Mr Mannn's tips on surviving a heat wave:
1) Crank the AC. Seriously. crank it. Far better to put extra blankets on the bed than to sweat.
2) If you can't do #1, hang out at the mall. believe me, they crank that AC at malls, they want you to hang out there!
3) Make some tea. get a big jar, toss in tea backs and put it outside. wala: Sun Tea.
4) Ice cream. eat some.
5) watch a video. If you have to exercise, get a freakin treadmill. It's hot outside.
6) if you can escape to the mountains, by all means do so. Cool, fresh air. stars at night. Life is good.
7) it's only 3 -5 months of heat. the rest of the year it's great outside. stop complaining.

They live in affluent neighbors but allege themselves to understand the problems of the poor, for example.

I like my tea without sweetener. When will it be ready?  :-)

I worked 7 to 3 today, had a therapy session (physical, not mental) then came home and watered my trees. It was getting warm outside. I am drinking ice tea right now. Work was busy. First of the month.

We also have a high senior population that get pensions on the 1st. Our prescription count is usually higher the first week of the month.

We have a lot of people that stop in to shop with us, they avoid Super Wal Mart at all costs. We have had some pretty good sales.
