There hasn’t been a sighting of a White-throated Needletail in the United Kingdom for 22 years, so nearly 80 birdwatchers flocked to Scotland this week to get a look, the Telegraph reported.  But instead of enjoying the world’s fastest flying bird soaring, they watched it fly into the small blade of a wind turbine and die.

"It was seen by birders fly straight into the turbine. It is ironic that after waiting so long for this bird to turn up in the UK, it was killed by a wind turbine and not a natural predator, “ Josh Jones of Bird Guides said.

The Greenies kill again. Renewable energy doesn't work so well for Nature.

Unintended consequences once again.

Better that than the damned thing getting sucked up into a jet engine.

I remember Rush telling the story from the Exon Valdez episode.  When they took a bunch of school kids down to the shore to see them set free some otters that had been rescued.  As the pups frolicked in the surf a killer whale showed up and took advantage of the free lunch provided by the greenies. Kids & greenies scared for life.

I don't see where the bird might have noticed a difference. In fact I'll lay odds that either way, the last thing to go through that bird's mind was it's anus.

Somebody should forward this to nadin. She could use this in her campaign against turbines.
