Time to tax the churches!
With the recent bitchslapping that has been delivered to the rethugs regarding DOMA, we can leverage the win with real reform. Because of the decision, we now have the ability to justify taxing churches if they refuse to honor and celebrate DOMA as part of their congregational duties. We should be encouraging individuals whom are not traditional male/female to register to marry in churches who have been against DOMA, and if they refuse, we can actually provide the proof that churches should NOT be exempt from taxation. This would be worth billions of dollars to our general fund.

For people who love to scream separation of church and state they sure can't wait for the government to decide church doctrine.

8. That is for a court to decide. The negation of holding the ceremony provides the trigger...
...for taxing the hell out of the organization, particularly the Catholic Church.
Can we force Muslims to eat bacon or pay a tax?

3. I agree, churches that get involved in politics should be taxed
It sure seems like a lot of them are almost as political as they are religious these days.
Then we need to tax Planned Parenthood, and all the leftist political groups that you goons love so much.

6. Churches should be taxed because we shouldn't allow make-believe to have the same standing
as reality. Should belief in Anubis or Santa Claus have equal standing in a court of law with objective evidence? Should belief in Anubis be funded by the Feds the way they now fund Christianity through their faith-based bullshit?
The CONCEIT of religion that its tenets have any basis in reality is a conceit that we need to get rid of.
And, yes, it would help if the words "make believe" were tied to religion at every opportunity.
Maybe we can do that with liberalism, tie make believe to every liberal idea.

10. Not completely the point.
I understand the actual marriage as honored by the state is dependent upon the certificate. But the point of the post is to force churches to perform ceremonies, or risk losing their tax-exempt status. The key is that churches can no longer be used as Holy Sanctioned money-laundering operations for repugnant republicans anymore, and we now have the major legal argument to take away the gravy train.

11. I trust the government far more than I trust the republican rethugs
I trust the government of progressive institutions such as the current Obama Administration. And once we get immigration reform, we will never have another republican administration, as the transformation will be complete, and our next major movement will be to integrate the United States into a more globally-administered organization, where we can merge with other progressive citizens and societies to ensure that Americans cannot isolate their wealth and destructive edicts from anyone else in the world, which means a pragmatic end to anything the rethug party stands for.
This guy is an idiot. Sadly he may be right about there not being another Republican president for a long time.

52. That's a pretty darn sexist term being used.
If poster has any sense at all, it would be deleted and substituted for a more benign word.

It already is, DUmbass.
Religious groups which believe in traditional Egyptian deities, and modern syncretic religions such as Wicca, are equally eligible for Federal tax exemption and faith-based funding, as Christianity and Judaism.

How quickly the Proglodytes are willing to throw away the Constitution.
They do not deserve this country.

It always comes down to this with the little fascists. That's why they want a big government and a disarmed citizenry.
Diversity of thought will not be tolerated! The cornerstone of progressivism/socialism/communism/fascism.

45. A way to do this right in my opinion would be to
Tax anything that the church receives. When they pay the salaries of the clergy, teachers, maintenance of the building, utilities, etc. It should be taxed. Non of the contributions received for that purpose would not be tax deductible.

I'd rather just stop O'bummer from wastin' any more money on his green energy boondoggles. We'd save more money than taxin' Jeremiah Wrights church would make in 40 years!
Every Dem I can remember goes to Black churches for votes. These pukes better me careful what they wish for.

From what I have seen anyone with $500.00 can get a divinity degree on line that extends to all the privileges of the recognised Churches.
So I send in my money and get a degree as a pastor of the Church of the great Spaghetti monster,, insure at least 5 members of my family attend once a week for an hour. My $500.00 gets me my church,[home and land tax free] All cars are tax exempt as is any building on the church property.
All utilities are tax exempt as is the food Served at the service. One can open a business on the property to aid the poor but the church records are off limits to the IRS.
Found this 20 years ago and it fascinated me. Still does.
Now I could open a church of the Conservative, but I would have to change the name to the church of the Liberal to survive. You know what I am saying, a Church of the eaters of acorn would have a better chance of getting a permit then anything with Conservative in the name.
So, I buy 4 acres of property with a broken down trailer on it and register it as church property. Family comes ever week to become my congregation and I decide to turn 2 acres into a junk yard. Any one that comes to buy parts from it is a Donner to my church. After 5 years I have enough money to build a garage and put a steeple on it, and live in the back rooms----big garage.
Some how this makes me think of the WBC and all the property they have. I am sure most family members put over half their salary's into religious donations tax deductible and the money comes back to then through the pipe line.
To me with all these federal loop holes I wonder why most people for the small price of $500 do not get their land or apartment designated as a religious place of some other.

This is exactly the point I tried to make to people when I explained why I was for the DOMA. I honestly don't have a problem with civil unions, but I knew that the homosexual lobby would use the word "marriage" as a weapon against churches.

Big fans of 'separation of church and state' until it comes to taxes, aren't they ?
