Back in 2009 Oreo cookies were 22oz for $2.99 most places

Then the package disappeared and was replaced by the 15.25 oz. size at the same price at most discount stores.

Now the package is 19oz now called 'Family size'. $4.49 at Target.

The consumer is ****ed again. Packaging magic brought to you by the scum in corporate marketing.

Don't get me started on what they did to Chips Ahoy....

You bought a product made with high fructose corn syrup, one of the DUmpster's pet bogeymen? For shame!

30. You still don't get it do you?

Go preach to someone else. As a person who occasionally likes a 3Musketeers or Oreo, don't try to push your brand of purity on me or anyone else.

Meh x 3

49. If you only eat it occasionally, then why complain about an extra $1.50?

Meanwhile, I've been tracking the price of broccoli for the last six years. In 2006, broccoli crowns were $1.50 - $1.80/lb. They are still exactly in the same price range seven years later.

5. Americans are obese because, in part, overconsumption of

stuff like that.

I'm fine if they want to raise the price to $10.99.

Maybe have an apple instead.

over America's weight problem.

How pure are thou.......

Meh.

17. You have to look for sales.

Our local Target had Oreos on sale a few weeks ago for 19oz for $1.99 so if you shop around you can definitely find deals.

The problem is that everywhere has sales on different stuff and MOST people don't look for sales and pay attention to what they're paying for which items and plan ahead, so most people pay the normal price for stuff, subsidizing it for the rest of us who DO do our homework on this stuff.

Well comparision shopping is a lot like work and it's just not fair you paid a lower price for your cookies. So Obama needs to start another government program to make sure cookie prices are fair.

24. They've been doing this for years to other products.

A gallon of bleach reduced to 3 quarts. 1/2 gallon of ice cream is now 1.5 quarts. A 5 pound bag of sugar is now 4 pounds. Cans of soup reduced to 10 3/4 oz, when they used to contain 14. (May not be the right number exactly, but I have recipes from several years ago that would call for one can of soup at about that measurement.) They think we don't notice, but we do. Everything is being slowly reduced in weight and size but the price remains the same or goes up.

And that's the larger point I wish the OP had made, because the discussion is devolving into what's bad to eat. Yes, we know we shouldn't eat it, but we're being shafted and not just because some of us have the bad habit of consuming processed foods. We're paying MORE for LESS.

48. "Yes, we know we shouldn't eat it, but we're being shafted "

Something the purity squad fails to acknowledge.......

Thank you

That was my point yet I am amazed how so many 'smart' people don't get it here.

Lol! If you don't agree with DB, you're not 'smart'. Ole DB is pretty dumb if he couldn't predict his OP would get exactly the reaction it did.

I love Oreos -

I had a big package sent to me while living in the UK in 1989, since they were nigh impossible to find then.

To put it mildly.

In case anyone's forgotten, the brain-damaged primitive's in the past admitted he was so miserable he wanted to die.

One wonders why he's taking so long.

Thus if one is black and sayeth the slightest disagreement with Lord 0 thou shall be labeled OREO and forced to wear the Scarlet O.

So let it be said. So let it be written.

Product shrinkage has been going on for a long time, but it does seem to have exploded under Obama.  Producers use to be able to get by with temporary price hikes when their costs like fuel spiked , but they could lower them later on when fuel prices lowered again.  That being said, they never lowered the prices to where they were before.

Under the Obama Regime , producers don't see their fuel costs going down like they did under previous administrations.  They just keep going up and up, so they resort to smaller packages and slightly higher prices.
