So...if you're sitting in a big jackpot lottery tix line...
...and thru whatever circumstances, someone lets you go in front of them through politeness. You then win the big jackpot. Moral dilemma time.
What would you do?
I'm interested in hearing the answers to this one...LOL.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't one have to have morals before they can have a "moral dilemma?"

Nye pretty much gets it right.
Probably a thread killer.

2. It's RANDOM. There is not a predetermined list of selections that the machine is working through.
Letting someone in the line does not change anything.

6. Tell them you want the same number the last guy got
They can do that. I do it all the time just to be a dick.
See what I mean about being morally bankrupt? (as well as not winning the jackpot, DUmmies. :lmao:)
And this is just the very tippy top of a gigantic, dirty, nasty, slushy, slippery, gooey iceberg.

Well, seriously, I'd give 'em a sizable chunk. It's more money than ya can spend after all. I don't see a dilemma at all. It's just polite. Sharing one's fortune is not new.
-
Lotto numbers are either random or a 'played' set. Despite changing the order of two purchasers in the same line, other factors come into play that guarantee a variation.
Playing the same numbers definitely does not put the person switched in an advantageous position ever. If both players matched numbers, they share.

I agree, a few million wouldn't hurt.

If I had won and knew who that woman was, I would have given her some of the money.

Not when you can claim a moral when it's convenient, then move the goalpost later when it's not.
-
Very doubtful the "quick pick" random numbers would have been the same had the woman went ahead and bought hers first. It's like letting someone shoot dice ahead of you and saying the numbers would have been the same had you rolled first. I wouldn't feel any obligation to share.
Matter of fact, if she hadn't let the person ahead in line, probably neither of them would have won.
-
I wouldn't do anything different. I'd still take my winnings, change my identity, and donate money to evil right-wing charities.

Sounds familiar ;-)

If you were smart enough to worry about moral dilemmas, you would not be buying lottery tickets in the first place.
The money is much better spent on a psychic hotline.

Generally.
Had this discussion with the GF today. Very simple. The individual would be very, very, very happy. Trust me.
Why is this even an issue with you (D)ipshits?

Since hypocrisy is the only liberal value, I would have to say 'maybe.'

Ah yes, but the opportunity was provided by the other party. All the stars being aligned and all that jazz'

Yes, but claiming to have them in the first place is vastly, completely different than actually having them.

Same here EC. I don't play the lottery until it get's up there and I then I buy one ticket. I think it's like a 1 in 138 million odds? My opinion you gonna hit it at those odds, you gonna hit it regardless of your place in line.
Someone did tell me you can pick your own numbers? If so, then it don't matter your place in line.

I think there is a book out about it, by some guy who has played and won several times. He uses the same numbers over and over. He says the odds are a lot better.

That guy had a union math teacher.
