I just cancelled my Verizon cell phone. (http://www.democraticunderground.com/10022959103)
My contract had already expired months ago, so I was on month to month.
I told the dude I wasn't into having all my calls monitored, so bye-bye mofos.
Verizon sucks. Obama sucks. The government sucks. Hell, damn near everything sucks.
I'm so over it.

2. Now you're going to have to quit everything except maintaining your off-grid wood shack in Montana.
Good luck!
What will Verizon ever do without a couple thousand DUmmies! :ohnoes:
-
I have Verizon, and don't plan to leave them. I'm going to a pre-pay plan, but it will be with Verizon service. If the DUmmies think Verizon is the ONLY cell phone company to hand records over, I have a seaside mansion in Arizona to sell them.

I've had Verizon service for over a decade and have had nothing but good interaction with them.
While I don't like the slippery slope of this, I don't do anything wrong with my phone or otherwise. So I really don't care...

How many bedrooms? :hyper:

The ones who don't cancel service are organizing for a "Not One Damn Text Day".
-
They aren't cancelling their plans. That costs $350 or so. Also, I didn't know the Obama Phone program used Verizon as their carrier.........
-
Morons. They think that just because Verizon admitted to doing it, that means the other carriers don't.

Next election I will continue to vote for Democrats without even giving it a second thought.
Fixed.

It's not fascism when a half black democrat president does it. By it, I mean anything.
The best part of having a republican president is that the media does its job. I think it is an important job to keep government under control when a d or an R is in power. The DUchebags do not and that is why they are they are such useful IDIOTS.

I hardly use the phone at all, but I don't like the slippery slope of this either. I love to see the DUmmies discombobulated though.

Felt compelled to share that on Facebook. Thanks Rob! :cheersmate:

I don't necessarily blame Verizon for this. They've bent to government pressure, as has Google, Yahoo, and who knows who else. Now granted, the amount of pressure might have varied somewhat, but make no mistake, they're operating under the same Chicago thuggery playbook as the rest of us.
That being said, while I'm pissed this is going on, I'm not cancelling my service with anyone just yet. Could be just going from one tap to another. Gee, what a surprise.

My yahoo e-mail account is full of spam mail. My Gmail (google) account is full of bills. If someone wants to read the spam e-mail on Yahoo and pay my bills, go for it. I'm kind of lame and don't really e-mail people. My phone calls are never interesting. Text messages can be amusing sometimes, but no real details in there. My work e-mails are actually the funniest things ever, but I don't think the government tracks those. I'm not sure why the government really wants to "data mine" all of our stuff.

How's that hopey changey thing working out for ya, Libs?

The DUmbasses are scared because they're the people the government is monitoring for terrorist activities and support.

To make sure we are on the same page -
Primitives are leaving Verizon - because they complied with an order handed down from The One's administration. This must be Bush's Fault (tm) :whatever:
:ownit:

We heard it wasn't just Verizon but all carriers including pre-pay.

Lol. Ace of Spades tweeted that we all have Obamaphones now. And a Texas representative mentions this on the floor:

As part of this whole issue, just want to remind everyone here that Glenn Greenwald, the UK Guardian reporter who wrote the article, is a left-wing nut. While his article has opened questions about this info gathering under Dear Leader's administration, I wouldn't be surprised that his aim (and those of other LW quacks) is to undermine political support for America's anti-terror efforts. IOW, he and other hate-America types will be saying "See, now in the effort to protect ourselves from attack, we've got a gov't that will spy on us."
All I'm saying is when it comes to these things, I think we all realize there's a right way and a wrong way to go about monitoring phone calls of those who mean us harm. The libs would rather we not try at all.
.
-
My thoughts too. Verizon is the only one we know about.....so far.
I suspect other cell phone companies are doing it as well, not just Verizon. Why just Verizon? We have AT&T, T-Mobile, Virgin, etc.

The PRISM leak was by the Washington Post and the NYT's just came out saying that Obama can't be trusted. If anything, I think the left wing media is "spanking" Obama for going after reporters. They are reeling him in and letting him know they put him where he is and they can take him out.
-
Seriously if this came as a surprise to anyone you haven't been paying attention.

WASHINGTON—The National Security Agency's monitoring of Americans includes customer records from the three major phone networks as well as emails and Web searches, and the agency also has cataloged credit-card transactions, said people familiar with the agency's activities.
Jerry Seib explains how the far-reaching data collection conducted by the U.S. government includes phone companies in addition to Verizon, plus Internet service providers and Apple. Photo: Getty Images

The disclosure this week of an order by a secret U.S. court for Verizon Communications Inc.'s VZ -0.04% phone records set off the latest public discussion of the program. But people familiar with the NSA's operations said the initiative also encompasses phone-call data from AT&T Inc. T -0.65% and Sprint Nextel Corp., S +0.07% records from Internet-service providers and purchase information from credit-card providers.

I just heard on the news that when zero was in CA to peddle his POS ACA, and beg people to sign up, he was forced to address this instead. He lost control of the floor, apparently.

The DUmbasses are scared because they're the people the government is monitoring for terrorist activities and support.
I think it's much simpler than that. (The IRS thing shows terror against conservatives will be ignored).
I think the Primitives have committed felonies over the phone. All the drug deals, the disability fraud, all the idiot things the DUmmies have done could have been monitored over the phone. And that's why they are running scared
Any govt agent following me around is gonna end up totally bored. If he looks through my TV into my apartment...well it's his own fault if he see things that should not be seen.

Evidently some people over at DU seem to have missed about every post here and at the old place about the NSA's programs called Carnivore and Echelon. Then there are who knows how many movies like "Enemy of The State" where the hero is tracked by the CIA or some such in a way that isn't to far from what is going on now and they somehow thought they were going to be safe?

While I don't like the slippery slope of this, I don't do anything wrong with my phone or otherwise. So I really don't care...
It is that very false sense of security and complacent acceptance that will have our once great republic turned again into the very sort of tyranny from which it rose. The irony of this is a bitter one indeed.

Ralph, I don't do anything illegal (that I know of....) in my house, but I still do not want the government snooping on my private affairs in my home, either.
I don't know. With internet and wireless technology as it is, maybe wireless carriers need a codicil in the contract that says users have no guarantee of privacy in their calls, texts, or emails.

I do not agree with this massive surveillance, but more bandwidth for me. :-) :fuelfire:
