Oh my.
One wonders why bettyellen, a long-ago acolyte of the late red round one, doused the campfire.

My effin' AC done broke.

At least it's below 100°.
Cats have cool water and cool pacs under their beds.
I'm going to crawl in the refrigerator.

1. I feel for you!
Coastal SC looks to be in the low 80's today. Up in Central NY, we're going to top out in the mid 70's. That said, my AC is cranked.
If I could push the cold, dense air thru my internet connection, I would.

7. I have two window air conditioners. We have had a couple of warm days close to 90. But
I have not used our air conditioners yet. We have fans in each bedroom, living room and kitchen. I find the metal fans are really better then those box fans. Really is cool. But I know before long I'll have to turn them on because I have health issues. I can't sleep when it's hot and I have hard time breathing. I like the summer and I don't mind it when it gets up to the lower 80s. I can handle that. As I got older I can't take the cold.

3. I feel for ya.
3 years ago, our A/C broke down in the dead of summer in So. NV., temps in the triple digits, luckily, I'm a pretty handy guy and was able to fix it myself, for some strange reason, both the blower motor and the condenser motor burned out at the same time.
Spent $250.00 and got 2 new motors and installed them myself, probably saved $1000.00 on labor cost if I had called an A/C repair outfit.

4. Central or window?
Window units are fairly inexpensive. Central units are $$.

14. I live in a mobile home and have 2 window units.
One is in the main bedroom and the other is in the living room.
When they go out, I just buy new units. They are cheap enough. The one in the living room I bought 2 summers ago for only $150 and it is still running beautifully.

15. Here in Minnesota, window AC units go on sale in July.
I use small window units in my bedroom and my wife's office. There's a large window unit in the living room. After three years, I bought new ones during the sale. They're in storage in my basement, waiting for the day the other cheap ones fail. The little bedroom 6000 BTU units cost $69 each. The big living room one was $189. Sales are good.
Ugly butts in, but whether face-first or ass-first, one isn't sure:

27. I had one of those in Boston
I moved out of the official bedroom because the old bag next door had her AC blowing hot air directly into my bedroom window and she was a heavy smoker, PU. I had a little bonus room that was big enough for a single futon and nothing else and that's where I slept. The window AC kept it like a meat locker.

19. I live in an apartment with central air. I went through a little of this at the end of last summer. The freon would leak out. Maintenance would come and fill it up. Then they would tell me that they found the leak and fixed it.
It would happen again. It wasn't so bad because if I cut it off for about 15 minutes, it would work again. Not working at all now
I am not going to go through this again. It is a very old unit and I saw them replace one in another apartment. I will go to the magistrate if I have to. I don't want to do that because I don't want to get on their bad side.
However, I also don't want to feel like a baking potato. This place looks like a showroom for fans. It is not too bad now. I DO NOT want to go through this when it is around 100°.

26. I haven't bothered to set mine up yet
I have an evaporative cooler, much cheaper to run than refrigerated AC but there's a reason they call them "swamp coolers."
It's only unpleasant from about 6 PM until the sun goes down and I can cope with that.
I suppose it'll be set up and running another 5 degrees from now.

She posted it in The General Discussion Forum but that forum is for:
Discuss politics, issues, and current events.
She should've posted that in The Lounge.

Yeah, but how many times is the rule observed?
I've seen plenty that's off-topic, that gets posted in General Discussion.
Things like what Atman brings up, that belongs in either the mental health forum or the conspiracy forum, for example.

Oh, Warpy, you big crybaby. It was hotter here today than it was where you are.

So, the (D)Ullards love cranking the A/C?
Gaia weeps. It's gonna be 54, overnight, here in the 51st State of Southern Illinois.
Where's the Gorebal Warming at? I'm waiting.
Oh,....yeah.....it's in Oklahoma......

Is that hot?
It was 90ish in Albany on Friday. While not 'hot' in the scheme of things, it was also fairly humid.
-
Is that hot?
We are lucky that we don't have high humidity.

How come they're always screwing up the simple judgment call of where a thread belongs? Nadin and Big Steve always post local news that nobody cares about. Steve will create a thread in GD when a dog dies.

Because it's basically a popularity contest. If a DUmmy doesn't like where a thread has been posted, then he sends an alert which the Hosts (self-appointed busy-bodies) consider in their super-secret forum (so super-secret that we don't know it exists)...and the discussion either peters out, or one of them gets locks it and then wets himself with the excitement of wielding power.

Because General Discussion is where the cool kids hang out, and the primitives like to think they're one of them.
Actually, there's very few primitives who are cool, but the lesser ones try anyway.
If I were my fellow alum Skins, I'd make it so that primitives are assigned certain forums where they can post, and be locked out of the others, given their temperaments and posting history. For example, I'd let Atman post only in the mental health and conspiracy forums, and nadin only in the California forum.
That would help boost traffic to the smaller forums, and clean up General Discussion quite a bit.

We are lucky that we don't have high humidity.
We will when monsoon season starts. I love the storms, but hate the humidity that follows.

I'm going to crawl in the refrigerator.
I can give you one to crawl into, primitive. It was my grandma's 1950's Hotpoint refrigerator.
Just don't forget to pull the door shut behind you.

You are hot?

In five years I have only seen one or two weeks of this so called monsoon season. Even then high humidity was around 40%.
I travel back home for vacation and it will be 95 degrees and 98% humidity, now that sucks.

You are hot?
Ummm . . . if you have to ask the question . . . :whistling:
