So I paid for some old lady"s groceries tonight.
She was ahead of me in line and obviousally having trouble wih all the electronic bullshit. After swiping her credit card twice and having it rejected for being outof date or something, I just said **** it and told the cashier that I wold pay for it. I swiped my card and paid her bill. It was only about $40.00 and at this point in my life, $40.00 will not have a major effect on my life one way or another although there have been times when $40.00 was the difference between eating or not.
The lady seemed embarrassed and I told her that I have been in her situation and not to worry about it but that people need to be nice to each other and the best way she could reciprocate was by doing something nice for someone else.
She kept hugging me and telling me God Bless You, like the sky fairy had anything to do with it. I just kept my mouth shut and was comforted in the fact that Athiests can apply the teachings of Jesus too.
Did you ask if you could do a "I paid for their food" bouncy? DB has controlling rights on that bouncy style.
As expected, not to be outdone... dueling bouncies.

1. you're a good person
I helped a gal with two kids who was just a couple dollars short - I gave her a five dollar bill - she too seemed a big embarrassed and thanked me profusely - but when I got into my car it was near hers, where she was loading groceries - her son (8 or 9?) came running over to me and said, "Thank you for helping my mom." OMG

6. I've done that a lot since the 2008 crash
and I've been called a good Christian every single time. I agree with you, though, and don't spoil it for them.
Maybe it will make it easier for them to pay it forward if they ever get the chance.

49. My Dad
a fundamental Christian Minister
told me to specifically beware of those who refer to themselves as Christians. This was as I was growing up in post war Germany, in Germany.
Little did he know he prepared me for my life in the North American South.
 Must be the drugs.

16. Good on you op
I never had that experience at a check out line but did pay before for an old lady
that needed medication for her cat at the vet. She just didn't have enough money and
asked if they could cut the dosage in half. I told the receptionist to add it to my bill.
Something just bothers me about old lady having to buy groceries with a credit card though.
Which was most likely paid with a rubber check.

59. Another Story
Here's a funny story. One Sunday morning I was pumping gas at the station at Illinois and Zangs in Dallas and a young man in black slacks, a white dress shirt and a black tie approached me. He said he was out of gas and was on his way to church out in Desoto (putting this in so Dallasites will know where I was). I thought he was a good Christian person and gave him a five dollar bill so he could get some gas. He jumped in his car and took off fast, burning rubber to get out of the station. He was not out of gas and I am sure he did not go to church that Sunday.
Obvious mole.

84. When my friend needed to leave an abusive husband
she needed $2300 to get her own place (deposits, 1st & last, etc) & she was flat broke (he controlled everything). We went to lunch & stopped by my bank.. I added her to an account I had opened..it had $2300 in it..
Will she ever "pay me back"? I don't expect her to & told her that. Her safety was worth $2300 to me
When will it reach the 100K plateau?

Bad liberal! You should have directed her to the nearest government office and demanded they accommodate her needs from the public coffers and then patted yourself on the back for a job well done.

With all this willingness by the primitives to help others, the Wishadoo! site should be empty except for people thanking all those who helped them. Problem is everytime I go there, I read stuff like "Sick and out of work. Need $500 for medication for the children," with a admins note of progress saying "Have raised $3 since October, 2012."
Somebody's lyyyyyyyyyyyiiiiiiiiiiiiiiing.

Matt 6: 1-4
“Beware of practicing your righteousness before men to be noticed by them; otherwise you have no reward with your Father who is in heaven.
“So when you give to the poor, do not sound a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, so that they may be honored by men. Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full. But when you give to the poor, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving will be in secret; and your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you.

The OP touches off an explosion of DUmmies with look-at-me!-look-at-me! generosity bouncies.
It's a pretty normal reaction among the DUmpmonkeys to one-up the OP with secondary bouncies.
The common denominator among all these tales is that they are without exception untrue:

When we were in the Bay Area we allways paid the bridge tool for the folks behind us.
Not many bridge tolls in Arizona but can still pick up some bills

I went to the local grocery store and walking up to the front entry, was a man sitting on the ground with his head down.
He said he was very hungry and had not eaten in a few days.
I gave him five dollars( it was all the cash I had).
He thanked me and told me many times "God Bless You".

but didn't want to tell anybody. The woman in front of me was younger than me and she was short 8 bucks. I told the cashier at Sprouts, here, here's a tenner.

I saw DUmmy on fire on the side of the road.
I was going to piss on him to put it out, but I didn't have to go to the bathroom. So, I rode until I found a tavern, and drank beer until I had to go to the bathroom. By that time, I forgot where I had seen the burning DUmmy, so I took a leak and went home.
I'm sure it all turned out OK for the Dummy. Somebody had to have come along who would piss on him and put him out.

The way the DUmbass tells the story makes it sound like he/she/it was just impatient and paid just to get the "old lady" out of the line. Plus you have the "Hey, look at us atheists! We're just a charitable as Christians!" angle.
Which is all moot, really, since none of it ever happened.
Conservatives do this kind of thing as a matter of course because it's the right thing to do. Bragging about it would be unseemly, like "bragging" about paying your bills on time or making sure your children went to school every day. Liberals feel the need to make a special showing of it, probably because it's so rare that they do something personal as opposed to expecting the Gubmint to do it.
-
I find these types of threads of theirs deeply offensive, due to the verses that Mr. Mannn posted up there. I take these very seriously.

Unlike the bouncy stories above I actually did help out a poor downtrodden individual this weekend, well in a way I helped would be more accurate.
In line at the Bass pro shop a fellow in front of me had a game camera and a Daiwa spinning reel ($$) on the counter, I could not help but notice he was using a Massachusetts EBT card to pay for them.
I was not too upset as he is obviously trying to provide for himself and maybe a family by hunting and fishing . sarc. :argh:
