Yesterday afternoon Illinois became the last state to pass a concealed carry law. Congratulations to the law-abiding citizens of that state. :)

Unfortunately, a quick read of the bill seems to indicate its basic message is "sure, you can carry a concealed weapon, as long as you jump through some pretty high and narrow hoops; also, as long as you never go here, there, or the other place."
(I'm the guy who says the only Constitutional gun law is the 2nd Amendment, and every single restriction-- or permit requirement-- is an infringement. No, I wouldn't forbid a 14-year-old paperboy from buying a Colt revolver in a hardware store-- because I know a man who did exactly that in the 1950s, and still has it.)

And local areas are still free to have whatever gun laws they want. Like Shitcago.

We used to be able to carry a gun onto an airliner, and buy a Thompson submachine gun by mail order.
Those were the days! It makes me misty eyed.
